No, no no. You don't understand. The rest of the world is obviously filled with magical fairies who have taught all people the errors of their ways. We are the only war-like country left. What we should do is take the entire defense budget and invest it in American Greetings and FTD. Then we could send all the leaders of foreign countries giant bouquets of flowers along with cards with cute little bears that say "I'm sorwy" and we can finally join the world in their onging hug-a-thon.

There was no locking up, none of them stopped, and the gui still responded just as fast. I didn't know a whole lot about programming back then, but I was impressed with how the whole system *scaled* usage.

Because the purpose of posting responses to articles is to foster meaningful discussion about the topic at hand. Since your post simply states that you do not find the subject matter 'interesting' enough to adequately comment on, it is extraneous and has been modded as such, much like this comment is fated. benefits of 64-bit computing

    increased scalability
The main benefit of 64-bit computing is increased scalability of your computer and applications. Some applications simply do not fit into a 32-bit computing model. For example, limitations on file size in a 32-bit environment may require database systems to use multiple files to represent a single file. Applications requiring large files, a large number of files, or a large number of users will benefit from 64-bit computing.

    increased performance
Any application that is outgrowing a 32-bit computing environment will suffer performance hits. Applications may need large files, large memory, high precision arithmetic, and/or algorithmic accommodations for 32-bit limitations. Applications needing more code or data in memory will benefit from decreased swapping with 64-bit computing. Reduced swapping can make database inquiries as much as 100 times faster (individual performance gains may vary).
