    Why should I, as a Flash developer / animator, move to a less stable, less well-known, less-compatible platform from one that is stable, has many developers, is cross-platform (mostly), and can do, if I'm reading right, everything the other claims to be able to do already? Wait, I thought flash already worked with acrobat!?

    Seriously, maybe because it's an Adobe product now, that alone should make you run screaming into the night. Acrobat reader is an excellent example of a long time Adobe project. Now, as the Macromedia developers move to greener pastures, they will be replaced with Adobe's team and quality standards.

    (Microsoft should have just bought FutureWave when they had the chance.)

    Not that I would ever install Realplayer outside of a locked down VM anyway. Assume I had a seizure or something and wanted to put this on my host OS.

    I think it's safe to assume that the basic data in the WGA annual report is not fraudulent. Not without third party auditing it isn't.

    Oh heck, the NY subway has a very simple system.

    Red light, small bar goes up on the track. If train goes over the bar, the train emergency breaks trip. Dead ends on the subway actually have a permanent metal bar in the trip position.

    Imagine a fully loaded train at 300 mph crashing in to Grand Central Station in Manhattan. Interesting, considering Grand Central Station is a post office.

    Assuming you mean Grand Central Terminal, don't you think we could easily build a safety system, similar to the one in the nearly 100yr old subway running next door?

    I'll assume you're not using your Vista video drivers in XP and Ubuntu.

    Let's face facts, Nvidia is not the best driver company, they're not as bad as Creative Labs, but that takes work.

    Nvidia had about 10 years to get their 2000/XP drivers stable and they did a good job. They had about 2 years to get their Vista drivers stable, and they did a horrible job. Give them time and the drivers will improve, otherwise, I suggest a Radeon in your future.

    Ok, I don't like replying to myself, but I didn't do enough research.

    When a new service pack is released, Microsoft will provide either 12 or 24 months of support for the previous service pack
    When support for a product ends, support of the service packs for that product will also end. The product's support lifecycle supersedes the service pack support policy Windows has a 24 month policy

    Mainstream support for Windows XP Pro ends 4/14/2009, which means they're not going to sell it or add new features to the core OS.

    Extended support for Windows XP Pro ends 4/8/2014, which means no new updates at all past that point.

    And, of course, as you noted, XP is losing support next year--just as it's running better than ever! No, it's not. Microsoft supports all operating systems for 2 years past the last service pack.

    Well, the only drivers I installed were the video drivers. So, basically, you installed nVidia's finest hardware and software on your computer and it crashes. I don't see a problem with Windows here.

    Its not getting much press as Vista or XP alternative because its freagin 5000$ or something (I'm making up the number, but thats about it), $400 for the EDU version, $950 for retail. So, close enough.

    However, I think that Windows does a terrible job for the general populous I think the problem is that no OS can fit the general populous without having problems. Windows is a jack-of-all-trades, master of none platform. That's why there are so many editions of Windows, Microsoft can't just release 'Windows' and have everyone happy. Home users don't care about running a domain controller and most business users are not too keen on media center.

    You'll always have other platforms out there, simply because they can fill in the niches that Microsoft can't dedicate enough time for.

    Most churches have a 'community house', they're not watching it in the main chapel.

    Either way, the NFL can suck it. I'm warming up my giant DLP system, starting 30 minutes late and sending it thru the DVR to skip the commercials, just to spite them.

    Hey congress, grow a pair. We the People do not want this bullshit. Bush won't sign a budget that includes criteria for troop withdrawal - Fine, cut off funding for the war. Bush won't sign a FISA extension that doesn't include immunity for the telecomms - Fine, don't extend the damned thing! Stop with the security theater, please - The actors suck and the popcorn went stale four years ago. Congress could do the unthinkable and try to override a veto. Democrats would be very smart to play it that way. Any Republican that doesn't vote with them could be billed as part of the problem with the current administration. OR the Democrats could just do more of the same while the Republicans claim that they are causing the problem.

    Mac OS X runs on a Mac. The Mac in this case is a PC saying 'I am a Mac'.

    There's very little hardware difference between your average Dell and your average Mac desktop. And yes, you can run OSX on an off the shelf PC, the Dell M1210 comes to mind.
