I'm just going to patent the process for turning a cow into meat.

I'm going to first sue the people that process cows into yummy meat.

Then I'm going to sue anyone that sells or eats meat.

Then I'm going to sue California for having too many hippies that don't eat meat!

    I'll make BILLIONS!

You'd have to change it manually if the need arises.

Then just import it into a 2000 machine. Reboot and Ta Dah!

If you've read the letter, it basically says that if you allow available video clips for viewing or download from your web site, you are infringing on their copywrights. Nothing about format. It's only that you have videos on your web site.

This patent could be slapped down HARD if they took on a large company. That's why they are going after this guys site. He's small time, probably can't afford to fight. EXACTLY the same thing as the PanIP fight that's going on. Too broad of a patent to even be inforcable, and they know it.

It's like patenting "method of moving your legs for locomotion" or some crap. It's just a given, and has been done before. But if you can't fight it, they'll get money, and sue others until somebody steps up and fights.

    This all sucks.

Theorized and studied in mathematical models, yes. In actual "lets go make a butterfly do this, and see what happens over there", probably not.

Anything and everything possibly do cause weather patterns to change slightly. Mind you, even I would like to see how much butterflies and bats do change weather patterns. Probably only a little bit but it can add up over time.

I should have made myself a little more clear. And I did read the article, BTW.

I was refering to the fact that planes do affect the weather, but there are many things that have a greater impact on the weather. Cities have a huge impact on weather systems that pass through their areas, with all the concrete and ashphalt that radiate heat back into the air, especially at night after the sun has gone down.

Contrails on an aircraft do create artificial clouds, which I find very interesting, but if anyone has looked at contrails of high flying aircraft, they stay around, and spread out. To me, this article was nothing new.

  11. Nothing new on Airplanes May Affect Weather Patterns · · Score: 2, Interesting

    This really isn't anything new.

Besides the fact that 3 days is too little to check, it has been studied and theorized how butterflies in Africa, or bats in Brazil can cause chaotic effects on the weather.

Mountains, trees, ducks, all cause effects on the weather. There are a lot more birds and bats in this world than planes. They probably have a larger effect on the weather than planes do.

If we really wanted to see how planes effect weather patterns, we can always try to go to another planet (Mars, is a good choice) and study their weather. Mind you, trying to get air planes to Mars would be a real pain to test this theory.

  12. My view on Suing Sony for Everquest Related Suicide? · · Score: 1

    This is probably redundant but...

This is how I see it. He was 21 years old (an adult) with a mental disorder and epilepsy that played a video game for long periods of time. Although he probably shouldn't have been playing the game, he did anyway. Although he probably should have been on meds is even besides the point right now. All that really matters is that he got depressed one day and killed himself. Over something that happened in a video game? Quite possibly. He might have been killed off by a "friend" in the game, or just somebody else, and that depressed him, and so he killed himself.

No matter how you look at it, he died because of his mental disorder. It didn't cause his heart to stop, but it caused him to kill himself. That much is pretty much not in dispute.

What really is in dispute is who is at fault. The mother? Sony? The suicidal man? His doctors (if he had any at that point)?

Society says that the man had a mental disorder, and that he wasn't at fault for his actions. Ok. So then who was?

    In my view, society.

Sure, because he wasn't thinking properly due to his illness, but then again, if you have a mental illness, how are you supposed to get help, if you don't realize it?

IANAL, but can't his mom, for example, have tried to prove her son's mental incompetience and possibility for suicide and looked into legal options? Couldn't depression and schizoid personality disorder be used to force him to get treatment? Can't society force people for treatment with disorders, such as these? Of course, it'd be expensive and stressful on the system, and probably illegal somehow.

I think society has to take more responsability for itself and stop blaming others. He didn't want help, she he didn't get help. Society doesn't want to force him to get help (for legal reasons or we're just too damn lazy), so he killed himself.

If it is society's fault, what do we do?

    TridiaVNC includes TightVNC.

If you go to the viewer and click on Options, you'll see it as the first option. It includes (in TridiaVNC 1.5.4 anyway) TightVNC 1.2.2 (which is the latest TightVNC anyway). TightVNC was based off of TridiaVNC, so I guess they're using each of the other's sources.

I prefer TridiaVNC. TridiaVNC Pro is good as well. It includes TridiaVNC, but adds in other features such as authenticating off of an NT domain and such. Good for those M$ users out there.

I personally use TridiaVNC on my NT and SuSE Linux boxes. Works great for me!
