I hate to break it to everyone but the last time I ran an online store the Merchant Account processors required that I submit everything. The persons info, CC# ISV, list of items being purchased, etc. I was running a lab supply company and the Merchant Account processor would review my sales every month and cut off my ability to process CC's. Seems that Petri dishes, syringes, and beakers are considered "Drug Paraphernalia" and if they see them they cut you off. In a 1 year time I went through 4 Merchant providers and the only suggestion that was given was to shutdown the online site and publish catalogs and do mail order only as that processing does not require you to submit the items being purchased.
Needless to say, I shutdown the company. I dont trust the CC processors (Merchant account processors) There needs to be something done about them.
Ok, how in the H*LL do you know that they rats are hypertensive and have erectile dysfunction??
I can just see the scientists..... I am going to stop, any sentence that involves scientists, rats, and fluff girls is just wrong.
You use SSH
Put the package on an http server, then write a script to do the following replacing $HOSTNAME with the name of the host on the network.
ssh -l $USER $HOSTNAME sudo rpm -ivh http://web.server.name/location/of/rpm/yum-100.123.2.rpm
Make sure to cap the output so you can rummage through it the next morning and make sure it worked on all the servers. Or fix the ones it did not work on.
If you are running windows, you start by reinstalling all the systems with a fresh linux image.
Strange, I took the statement to be an indication that the most common desktop was windows. I also took it to be an indication that, in the land down under, Microsoft had a strong hold over the government. Unlike in some other countries where they have begun to choose open standards and have started switching government employees to Linux, BSD, or other types of desktops.
I have had business and Accounting Training and you are correct! It is Cost Centre (or Profit and Loss) accounting.
I love it when management points out that IT always operates at a loss. Last person to tell me that was the VP of IT Services. I turned around and stated "The VP of IT Services is a management position, all management positions operate at a loss. Should we eliminate management and make the company more profitable?"
Everyone in the IT group thought it was funny accept the VP. lol
What an Amazing Idea, now tell me who does this?
I have worked for 4 fortune 10 companies and 1 financial institution. Not a single one has used Revision control, and only one has used change control. That is if you consider a meeting of 20 non-technical managers who can nix a change with out explaining why, change control.
IMO they are, anyone that would run a company into the ground to get a bonus is a moron and any C-level that accepts that behaviour from a subornate is a moron.
Though I know what you mean, one company I worked for got a new VP who started by cutting the budget by 50% and laying off half the staff. At the end of the year he got a major bonus for cutting costs. The next year he cut the budget and staff by 25% then the year after that by 10%. Each time getting a big bonus for reducing costs. After the third year he took a new position with another company. The IT Dept was in shambles and the new VP coming in was trying to fix stuff while being considered a bad manager because costs were sky-rocketing.
1. The Heretic, who convincingly builds a case that the company is hopeless and run by a bunch of morons;
Thats me, Does it count that the company was running 10+ year old systems with no maintenance contracts, no spare parts, no documentation, and only 4 people to manage 3 full data centers totalling over 500 systems. Where disaster recovery was considered successful if they could get it back up in a week. Oh, did I mention that it was a financial company handling Billions of $? Did you know that financial company employees are supposed to take two weeks off with no access to the systems, that is to detect fraud. They waved the off time because we were only 4 people and could not manage it on 3.
And I am the Heretic for pointing this crap out. I question the Heretic label because I have worked for many companies that where run by a bunch of morons who did not understand IT and did not follow any kind of best practices. I am sure we all have horror stories to tell. There are a lot of companies that cut IT to the bone with out understanding what exactly was going on or how it would effect the company down the road.
And people called me crazy and a nut when I said "A government run by the people and for the people should not be allowed to keep secrets from the people"
Odd, it rotates fine for me. All the way around. As to the choppy performance, make sure you are looking at the right one. The last one I had was choppy but this one is not.
As to ram That is subjective. I have not had any issues with the ram in it. Ok I can only have 11 items running at once, but it is not an issue for me.
The slightly outdated v2.1, well some time cutting edge is better than bleeding edge. It takes time for them to get the upgrades out and android is changing quickly. There are good points and bad to that but 2.1 runs great for me.
I hear over and over how Corporations are not the government and are not restricted by the constitutional limits on regulation of speech. Well, If they dont have to respect our right to free speech then we dont have to respect there right to be on the web.
We the People have rights Governments have privileges granted by the consent of the governed. Corporations have the privileges grant them by government laws.
No, A freedom does not require others to do anything other than accept that I have the right to use the freedom.
The issue here is that "The Freedom of Speech" is not a protection, it is not a government granted privileged and it is not a restriction. It is a freedom.
The man said "Freedom of speech protects us from infringement from the government, not other people or corporations."
It does not! However, The first amendment to the constitution does protect us from infringement from the government.
I can not believe people rate the above statement so high.
"Freedom of speech protects us from infringement from the government, not other people or corporations."
Freedom of speech is FUCKING FREEDOM OF SPEECH. I dont know about you but my Freedom of speech is given to me by my creator.
The protection is the first amendment to the constitution states
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
However, the 10th amendment states
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
Tell me, where do I give up my sovereign rights to a corporation or you or any other want to be dictator?
My "Freedom of Speech" if Mine, given by my creator, to use as I see fit! If you dont like it you can try to take it from me. Then again I also have a right to use guns and to shoot your ass for trying.
The average person will pick up a USB pen drive from the parking lot and plug it into there PC or Laptop. Heck, I bed 99% would run a program on it called "Owner_Information.exe" To see who to return it to. I bet good 50% would run a program called "Run_Me.exe" lol
In all honesty most Technical people over think most hacks. It is like watching a person try to pick the lock on a door when the window next to the door is open.
IANAL, however it seems that changing the LGPL to specificly deny sealed cases involving patent infringement settlements with out notification of all developers, to be a prudent response. If there is a settlement involving an LGPL'ed software then all developers need to know so that the infringing code can be change, removed, amended, or licensed.
When dealing with a commercial software house there is only one company that needs to license the code and only one set of developers who are aware of the licensing via the corporate structure. This paradigm is quite different in the opensource community, this is the equivalent of the company having a ruling/ agreement but being bard from informing the developer staff.
On the 15 of August 1994, William R. Della Croce, Jr. filed for the trademark Linux, and then demanded royalties from Linux distributors. In 1996, Torvalds and some affected organizations sued him to have the trademark assigned to Torvalds, and in 1997 the case was settled.
There is precedent for trademarking a name after it's use and using it to extort^h^h^h^h^h^h require licensing fees.

.
I got a 10.2" android 2.1 pad (1ghz, camera, GPS, etc) and love it!
EBay Rocks
True but I can tell the difference between Japanese and Chinese (Std or Simplified) Bet some one will guess how ;)
Though I have never had an issue using a translator for conversions in Chinese. From what I have seen, most can read Simplified and are fine with it.
Copy --> Paste --> click Translate. That fast.
You mean AL Gore was lying to me when he told me
Oh young one, you should have realize that he was lying. His lips were moving, and with a politician it is a dead give-away that they are lying.
