    Why would you want to see that comparison? nVidia's Linux drivers are hardware accelerated. Generic Mesa is not.

    Anyone with a decent understand of English knows better. Just because I may claim to be the reincarnation of Ben Franklin, that doesn't make it true. Just because they claim not to be an emulator, that doesn't that true either.

    An emulator is something that duplicates the environment that an application runs in.

    That's from the Wine FAQ. It goes on to say that Wine doesn't attempt to duplicate the environment.

    However, the simple fact of the matter is that I have a shit load of wine libraries on my computer designed specifically to emulate their windows counterparts. As such, WINE most certainly is an emulator.

    ATI has released binary drivers for the Radeon 8500. Supposedly more developed drivers (with support for the newer cards), are also on their way.

    Rumor has it that it works with -CURRENT after you disable a check in nv-freebsd.h.

    The kernel driver "source code" is simply a few lines of code wrapped around another binary module.

    The only thing that can stop them doing that is if the customers have an ethical objection, and as we've seen a large number don't.

    Actually, the US very rarely gives away money to foreign powers. Instead, the Federal Government will take the money and buy goods that the foreign country needs and then give those goods to the foreign country. In the end, it works out both for the US business that the government bought the goods from and the foreign country.

    The real issue is that SouthWest offered special web rates for people who ordered on-line.

    Now, if the guy had called, complained that he couldn't navigate the website because he's blind, asked for the reduced rate anyway, and been denied, then he might have a valid complaint.

    It did not detect or configure my network card. And it wasn't really clear how to do that. Linux installers do that, and have done it for years.

    Completely untrue... Taking the code and not adhering to the license is stealing. This is what happened when FreeBSD code made it into the linux ATA driver and the copyright was dropped from the source code.

    There was a fairly long thread on the gcc devel mailing list about how gcc3.2 ICE's on a number of applications in the FreeBSD ports tree.

    Frankly, FreeBSD doesn't want a "somewhat stable" compiler. They want one that actually functions like it's supposed to :-)
