I have never solicted to get any email from these people.... so by that meaning any email from them is unsolicited or "SPAM". Any they have the Gall to start and end their email stating this in not SPAM.

    Hi,

While not actually a MODDED unit, since you can buy them... but Itronix recently licensed a market segment of our illuminated keyboard patent. This they are using in their new Rugged Go-Book Laptops.

IBM saw the need to use an LED to light their keys from the top in their Thinkpad Laptops. The problem with this is the added glare to the LCD screen making it a little harder to read, and the keys are not lit evenly. In fact in a recent review when the IBM is just compared to Itronix's glow in the dark keys, reviewer Conrad H. Blickenstorfer of PenComputing.com stated "A clever idea, but it doesn't come close to Itronix' solution" (see article for more info Article ) ....

  10. Re:Trust Me on Review: A.I. · · Score: 1

I liked BiCentenial Man ( another movie with basis from a premeire SCI-FI writers book). Initally Robots are just programmed to do a task or set of tasks. They have very limited decision making capabilities, and cannot handle anything outside the bounds of their programming.

Obviously at the start of the two movies, the ROBOTs Limited processing has evolved to be almost actors of real humans. But at what point do beings like this attain a consciousness that would basically give them a soul. They are not inamimate objects, but are they really people. At the flesh faire Spielberg tried to HUMANIZE the mechas, but he did something just as bad as when we try to humanize characteristics within animals. For example do you really think these machines would be upset about their impending destruction. Does your PC quiver when you shut it down. Does your FAX machine get nervous you might beat the crap out of it like the guys in the movie "Office Space". The answer to all these questions should be: NO!!! Remember by Dr. Hoby's own comments the current robots had no feelings. Only with the NEW love programming would they feel emotions.

The evolution of robot to intelligent machine/person is much more believable in BiCentennial man as we actually saw him evolve.

David rather has no evolution before our eyes. He is programmed to love(?) and imprint on his new family. The rejection from his imprinted mother causes him to make decisions to try to be what his imprinted ,mother really wanted... to David that is a REAL BOY. You could argue it, but I could write a simplistic program that says "I love my mother". But based on certain possible instances program responses. Simple but could be advanced to the degree David acts in a movie. Think about it.. he sits in a hovercopter for two-thousand years saying "I wish I was a real boy" over and over and over. Talk about your infinite loops. Not much Learning occurred there... not much evolving either. Not to smart, sitting there for two-thousand years we he could have tried to escape. Definitely shows a ROBOT not relating exactly with his environment.

So as far as articial intelligience goes, sure you can program a neural network for thousands of different triggered responses... but that only makes the program as smart as you programmed the network.

Lastly, the programming forces the ROBOT to imprint on its new family (i.e. when that sequence is initiated), but he/she never grows old. When the family no longer requires this Robot Child, the child must be shut down. Talk about a Throw Away society. I love you... now let me shut you off. At least the other robots, if they performed their duties well could move on from owner to owner with no impending destruction. What were his marketing plans to sale these to mother who like to shake their babies to death. How can anyone actually love a "child" and then destroy it at any point.

Sorry to ramble but I thought this was a COMPLETE waste of money. While the special effects were pretty good... the story sucked.

This a major problem that comes down to one thing --- TRUST!!! As a businessman that has been wrapped in the legal snares of a project... Your attorney will advise to to have an NDA with anyone you talk to, especially the one they write for you. But MANY people won't talk you under the stiff legal parameters within that NDA. Believe me we had an on-going dicussion with a major OEM that lasted for over six months to get an NDA in place. Our attornies worked with theirs, and it came time for the scheduled meeting at their site with their attorney approved NDA, and they would not sign. But we also worked with another OEM who signed after 4 months. Hopefully something will come from this.

My advice --- run your idea by some of your friends. Do it in a meeting and ask that you can tape it. Also document your idea in multiple media types, and have a hardcopy paper version notarized, and then send it to yourself and leave it sealed.

    Media types:
electronic like files, documents, emails, placed on a CD..
    a basic presentation on video.

Here's the deal... The reason for turning out the lights is reducing the GLARE. This is especially useful in Games that are particularly dark to begin with. You are reducing the glare so you can adequately see the fine dark details. So if the screen is dark and the room is dark... there is not much light coming from the screen to light your board.

Next. I do not know about you... even though I do touch typing all day during the day, when I come home I want to compute comfortably. So I use my keyboard in the keyboard tray that is at a good ergominic position.. (which by the way get no light from the monitor) and I relax in my chair --- which is not the position for touch typing. Lastly moving back and forth between mouse and keyboard... this allows you to orient yourself quickly.

And for nite-time programmers, and use in a dorm, you can type your papers or programs in minimal light which would not disturb your roommate.

Even better on an airplane you can work on your laptop quite well without overhead lighting... and not disturb your fellow passengers sitting next to you (at least not as much).... and did I mention reducing glare.. laptops screens are notorious ( although they are getting better) for being difficult to read.

    Hope this helps

While I hold these kids personally responsible for what they did.... Games such as DOOM have been found to increase Hand-Eye Coordination to the point you could consider you have been trained in WEAPONS Combat. I think I even remember the Army using it as a simulator for training purposes. Is this GOOD? Well it depends on how you look at it. Virtual Training like this is definitely cheaper for the ARMED FORCES to do before putting live weapons in their hands. The question here is not whether these games made them KILLERS. The question is if these games made them EFFICIENT Killers? And is this something that can be sued over? Again, there are numerous games out there similar to DOOM, like Star-Wars Dark Forces. You know Good Guy versus Bad Guy. Up front these look innocent... (I actually find these kind of boring) but the heart of these is to be a quick shot --- be stealthy, and survive. Here is a flipside to that theory... several students actually survived by being stealthy and, doing whatever they could to survive. Can anyone of these claim that they had never played one of the games ever. Children's games have always included elements you could blame for this tragedy... like Hide & Seek , Cops & Robbers , and Cowboys & Indians.... Who is more responsible -- the gaming companies or the parents? Sure the gaming companies could stop making these.... but most (i.e. 99+ % ) of the people out just play these for entertainment. I tend to lead toward blaming the parents more than the gaming companies. But where does the parent draw the line on video games? Now there are places like LASER-Quest and other to play PAINTBALL. How do you know if this is just a fun event or are you training a killer to be more of a killer. No matter what anyone wants to blame this tragedy, these kids snapped mentally. They had had enough abuse and were going to fight back. Video Games did not game them the money to purchase weapons. Video games did not teach them how to make pipe bombs. Video games did not make these two kids friends til the end. Video games did not tell them how to plan this. There are many socially repugnant icons is this day and age.... Drugs, prostitution, gang violence, etc. There are many even less socially repugnant icons is this day and age.... Like the violence in movies, TV, games, literature, etc. Is the answer complete censorship? While we are burning the CD's these games come on --- should we throw the videos and books and everything else into the fire too? A great man did that..... well not exactly great, but a powerful tyrant set on absolute control. He used control information to pollute the minds of his followers. Who is this person, well you could probably point to several? Hitler, David Koresh, Reverend Jim Jones, Sadam Husein.. etc. etc. Remember this country is based on freedoms drawn in the Constitution. Our forefathers gave us the right to bear arms so the government could not control us in a police state like the Brits tried. Is this good --- yes!!! Is there a bad side too ---- YES.
