It's not something new. There are lots of projects around the world trying to solve it. As with all issues of preserving knowledge, you'll find that even the simplest things can turn to great pains. For instance - you have your great hole in the mountain for storage of nuclear waste. Now, you don't want people in the future walking down there. Assuming they dont speak your language, what do you do? Paint something, like pic 1: human outside, pic 2: human going in, pic 3: human dead. Sounds good eh? Try reading it backwards, as some cultures do. Human dead, goes inside, comes out alive? Not really the same thing, but it's an interesting problem. What will we leave behind? Not many things are written in rock any more.
All this makes me think of Stanislav Lem's "Memoires found in a bathtub", which is a grat book for those of you who haven't read it.
Considering the fact that the EU now has some 500 million people, and a whole bunch of other countries are coming in. Many of these countries are below western european standars when it comes to computers, which means there is a large market coming up in the next few years. Poland, the baltic states and so on are all going to spend more money on computers as their economies grow, and I very much doubt MS would want to miss out..
The problem is not if they will comply to the rules, but if the rules will come through. I do think there are hopes for this though, as the EU has fined companies before for not following legislation. Some, like Hoffman La Roche, even got the new principles unofficially named after them afterwards, when the european court of justice had had its way with them. I sincerely hope for a stronger EU.
Anyone in to international law would see the problems with getting this implemented. Just read the basics of the UN charter, and you will see that countries are extremely protective of their sovereignty, and that such a serious infraction of this would be very unlikely. It could even be interpreted as a breach of some major international treaties on civil and political rights, or maybe even of the non-intervention principle of international law, which, apart from recognized, unregulated rules, the UN also has codified in its charter. It would seriously affect the national sovereignty, and could therefore be seen as a breach of articles in the UN charter.
On the other hand, I would rather see the UN doing this than ISP:s doing it at their own will..
You do know that a whole bunh of batteries we have on the market are a lot more dangerous to the environment compared to say, ethanol, or something else for the means of getting energy for something.
as a sidenote: hydro-dams aren't all good even, since when you flood areas during parts of the year, as is the case in Sweden, there is a whole bunch of gas produced, which then goes on and helps ruining the ozone layer.
I think the only sustainable method is to hand over all power to me. That way I could gather all good-looking chicks, kill the rest, and not need any electricity as I would keep warm anyways. perfect solution.
is a Soviet made nuclear reactor for my cell-phone. I dont care if I had have a truck for the battery, I would still own. "I'm sorry our conversion was interrupted, but I had a nuclear melt-down". It would sure beat whining about my Nokia having a stand-by time of 5 hours after one year of using it. Just get some nice uranium and keep the cellie on for 150.000 years.
Compared to many DoS attacks, these guys do something that actually requires some matter of knowing, whereas others (read scriptkiddies) use things they've downloaded themselves. Most DoS attacks invlolve less sophisticated means, which is why this could be interesting for someone who does not know much about them.
Please excuse any bad grammar/spelling, I am quite drunk atm.
Since I bought my laptop I've used less paper in school. A lot less even. Much of the material is availible online, and with the wireless network of Stockholms University I dont need any prints.
I write everything but tests on my laptop, and I can download pr0n at the same time, in class.
The left wing party, on which the social democrats rely heavily, did have an abolishment of capitalism in their program before the last election. Not that media focused on it at all, but I find it remarkable that a party with that as a goal can get 10% of the votes...
But what do I know. Soviet Sweden might be the country of the future!
Unbreakable Union of freeborn Republics, Great Sweden has welded forever to stand. Created in struggle by will of the people, United and mighty, our Soviet land!
I'm afraid her stunning beauty might harm your fragile mind. I usually send people to a shrink before allowing them to meet her, in order to know if they can handle it. It's just a precaution, I hate all those lawsuites. Sorry. =/
I live in a backwater communist country (read Sweden), so I haven't had the chance to see it yet. We're usually a year or two behind everyone else. It's quite annoying actually, since you usually manage to spoil half of the episodes just by reading stuff on the net.
Anyone with a well-paid job in the states who want to switch lives with a law-student in Stockholm? I have a cute girl-friend that would be included. Anyone?
There is just the small problem that you can also use ShowEQ to see your immediate surroundings, giving you an advantage when it comes to finding 'rare' monsters before others if they spawn, say, one a day.
Lots of people will be tempted to use cheats if they have them, even though they from the beginning only wanted to see their mana.
Ehm. I dont know what planet you are from, but here in Sweden we had a number of GHB related deaths, after which a law made it illegal.
Most deaths occurred while mixing it with alcohol, which increases the risk of falling into a coma like stadium which lasts for a couple of hours. What makes the drug dangerous is that it is hard to get the right dose, which often leads to overdoses. Since GHB in larger doses frequently causes nausea, and vomiting, this is a dangerous combination. Puking while being unconscious, and subsequently drowning in your own puke is, at least to me, not a very nice prospect.
People did die, yes, that is sad. But wtf, in accidents all over the world more people die vewry often, but noone cares, because the whole world is americanized.
IF, say gooses mopther was dead, i would understand. If cliffe died in wtc, id understand. But you dont show respect to the dead by doing just what the terrorists wanted, disrupting our lives. Every store thats closed, ever film they postpone due to this serves the terrorists. They wanted to fuck our lives, and they succeeded. They have made the whole world cry, they stopped the financial world, they halted our lives.
That was what they wanted. Let us not play the terrorist's tune, let us overcome this tragedy and get on with our lives.
People die, its shitty, but thats the way it is. What americans need to realise is that people do die, more people died from hiv in china last year than did now. 100 000 chinese people were infected with hiv (which, in china means death) by an error at a hospital. There are still people in vietnam who are crippled by Agent Orange, a chemical the us released over the jungles, which has had horrific effects. Not to speak about Nagasaki and Hiroshima, or the children in iraq who got bombed by the us in the war against saddam hussein. The US is NOT gods wonderstate, and every life is worth just as much as another.
I have serious problems with understanding whyt it is so much more of a tragedy when americans die from terrorism, as when equally innocent people die from other causes. Its morbyd, the cult-like fascination from people about this affair. I think it is terrible what has happened, but people need to see that the world isnt a good place, people die. Of course we need to try to make it as good as possible, but it isnt right now. The way to world peace is NOT through superior weaponry, but by dialogue and understanding. Obviously, someone thought they couldnt change what was wrong, and so they conducted this horrible act of violence. Violence breeds violence, when is the worldleaders going to understand that? By killing a terrorist, his children will grow up hating the us, and the bad circle is complete. War will continue forever as long as revenge is being performed.
People like you are the reason most non-americans dislike the us. Stupid brutes who think enough guns will subdue everyone. The next nuke you drop is probably gonna get the world against you, and then YOU are fucked. I just hope the situation never arises, since i dont really like the idea of nuclear holocaust.
What would you do if another state came into your city, and demolished your house, just because some extremists bombed a pizzeria earlier that day? The arab-states dislike Israels actions in palestine, with all rights.
There is lots of racism in the middle east, and it was when things came to seeing sionism as racism, that the us and isreal left. I pretty much think seeing your people as better than others, and that the other people should just move if you say so, is a lot like what Adolf Hitler thought at first when he deported lots of jews, gypsies and others...
...the us government supports israel. The us government is selected by the us people )well, sort of anyways) and therefore many americans are to be blamed for the us foreign affairs.
As you could see in them targetting the pentagon, it hints at them being angry with us militaryofficials.

=) It would be kinda funny for him to get replies meant for you if that is the case. =)
I don't want to know. Slashdot is one site I do not expect to spoil things for me, at least not apart from comments, but this is bad.
Aeternum vale!

It is an Italian satellite, you must never underestimate the power of Italian technology.
Per vino ad astra!
They may not be perfect, but they are cheap. Also, I don't know about you guys, but I don't really need much faster storing devices.
Oh yeah, maybe we could collect some money for the person who wrote this, and send him/her to a writing school or something.
"But you can't buy SSDs for ordinary PCs.
Well, you can, but you don't want to. For two reasons."
Horrible horrible.

YOu can play it for months without getting bored. Works on slow computers.
Evolution is measured by the amount of cars a civilization can produce, which is why humans are ranked nr 2 in the universe. Germans are nr 1.
