Assuming they dont speak your language, what do you do? Paint something, like pic 1: human outside, pic 2: human going in, pic 3: human dead. Sounds good eh? Try reading it backwards, as some cultures do. Human dead, goes inside, comes out alive? Not really the same thing, but it's an interesting problem. What will we leave behind? Not many things are written in rock any more.
All this makes me think of Stanislav Lem's "Memoires found in a bathtub", which is a grat book for those of you who haven't read it.
Considering the fact that the EU now has some 500 million people, and a whole bunch of other countries are coming in. Many of these countries are below western european standars when it comes to computers, which means there is a large market coming up in the next few years. Poland, the baltic states and so on are all going to spend more money on computers as their economies grow, and I very much doubt MS would want to miss out..
The problem is not if they will comply to the rules, but if the rules will come through. I do think there are hopes for this though, as the EU has fined companies before for not following legislation. Some, like Hoffman La Roche, even got the new principles unofficially named after them afterwards, when the european court of justice had had its way with them. I sincerely hope for a stronger EU.
Anyone in to international law would see the problems with getting this implemented. Just read the basics of the UN charter, and you will see that countries are extremely protective of their sovereignty, and that such a serious infraction of this would be very unlikely. It could even be interpreted as a breach of some major international treaties on civil and political rights, or maybe even of the non-intervention principle of international law, which, apart from recognized, unregulated rules, the UN also has codified in its charter. It would seriously affect the national sovereignty, and could therefore be seen as a breach of articles in the UN charter.
On the other hand, I would rather see the UN doing this than ISP:s doing it at their own will..
You do know that a whole bunh of batteries we have on the market are a lot more dangerous to the environment compared to say, ethanol, or something else for the means of getting energy for something.
as a sidenote: hydro-dams aren't all good even, since when you flood areas during parts of the year, as is the case in Sweden, there is a whole bunch of gas produced, which then goes on and helps ruining the ozone layer.
I think the only sustainable method is to hand over all power to me. That way I could gather all good-looking chicks, kill the rest, and not need any electricity as I would keep warm anyways. perfect solution.

Compared to many DoS attacks, these guys do something that actually requires some matter of knowing, whereas others (read scriptkiddies) use things they've downloaded themselves. Most DoS attacks invlolve less sophisticated means, which is why this could be interesting for someone who does not know much about them.

Ehm. I dont know what planet you are from, but here in Sweden we had a number of GHB related deaths, after which a law made it illegal.
Most deaths occurred while mixing it with alcohol, which increases the risk of falling into a coma like stadium which lasts for a couple of hours. What makes the drug dangerous is that it is hard to get the right dose, which often leads to overdoses. Since GHB in larger doses frequently causes nausea, and vomiting, this is a dangerous combination. Puking while being unconscious, and subsequently drowning in your own puke is, at least to me, not a very nice prospect.
People did die, yes, that is sad. But wtf, in accidents all over the world more people die vewry often, but noone cares, because the whole world is americanized.

I have serious problems with understanding whyt it is so much more of a tragedy when americans die from terrorism, as when equally innocent people die from other causes. Its morbyd, the cult-like fascination from people about this affair. I think it is terrible what has happened, but people need to see that the world isnt a good place, people die. Of course we need to try to make it as good as possible, but it isnt right now. The way to world peace is NOT through superior weaponry, but by dialogue and understanding.
