Faithful viewer jfletch pointed out another Techworld article from almost two months ago that also quoted Secunia and claimed that Mac OS X's security problem at the time "makes Microsoft's current Sasser problems look no more than a nasty nip." (Of course, two months later Sasser still turns up in articles on Google News posted just hours ago, but who's counting?) Now, far be it from us to claim that there's some sort of Techworld-Secunia conspiracy intended to undermine Apple's attempt to gain an entry into the enterprise market, because we would never-- oh, who are we kidding? There's some sort of Techworld-Secunia conspiracy intended to undermine Apple's attempt to gain an entry into the enterprise market. We've been jawing about this incessantly for about four days straight, now, so determining motive is left as an exercise for the viewer. Follow the money!
I use Slim Devices' free SlimServer as my streaming server, and the freeware java SoftSqueeze as the player(s). Works a treat, I can control the various players around the house from my laptop's browser, and each player can do its own thing or synch with any other player.
Seriously, though, in this country (US), it is easier to deal with an "excessive force" charge as a victim than the civil suit for "lost wages and mental anguish" from your now-wounded attacker.
This probably will get modded down, but whether you agree with it or not, he is right.
But then you deal with the lost wages and mental anguish suit from the family. I go with insurance, regular backups, and give the a$$*&^% my toys. Works when your home is burglarized, too.
Is it likely that Palm, right at the end of one 7-year curse for patent infringement, will copy someone else's handwriting input system?
The Zaurus system sounds very powerful and flexible, but the chances are very good that parts of that system are protected under various patents too.
It would take a lot of user feedback to get Palm to license ya third-party system, even if it works better especially since they've already paid for a second system.
OT: My favorite Ciarcia article was the month he described trying to get back into the house, past all his intruder detection stuff, when he *locked himself out*. Sometimes a geek's worst enemy is him/herself.
Probably the last place you'd look, but it was published this week and it's to the point:

From Apple's web site: Question 9: Can I use my existing iPod for Mac on a PC, or my iPod for Windows on a Mac? Answer: You can reformat your iPod for Windows into an iPod for Mac, but it is not possible to reconfigure your iPod for Mac to an iPod for Windows. This is because Windows does not support the HFS+ file system and therefore will not see the drive.
You can convert your iPod for Windows into an iPod for Mac by using the iPod for Mac Software Updater on the Apple website. Note that once it is reformatted, it will only work with Macs. You need Mac OS 9.2 or Mac OS X version 10.1 or later to reformat an iPod for Windows into an iPod for Mac.
Using the iPod for Mac on a PC, or using the iPod for Windows on a Mac, is not supported by Apple.
Time to slashdot my favorite soap opera. This article, a week old already, is a hatchet job.

Download SlimServer
Get SoftSqueeze
You mentioned the Bushes, and it wasn't glowingly complimentary. I've been hit by this myself. It is weird, being flamed by a moderator.
Yeah, I want that one too! With holes front and back for airflow! And the one-button ice/water dispenser!

Ah, but non-USAians won't see them -- these popups are for the Diebold voting machines....
What? Didn't you read the article? What?
Hey! I get those pages all the time! I thought I was supposed to ignore them! ;)

Switch to the US listing, and scroll down to Science and Technology. 6 of 7 pictures are for BioWare's Hordes of the Underdark going gold....
I'm sold on the idea.
iDVD 2.1 was 1.07 GB.... iLife is provided on a DVD. Bit of a long download, even on dsl.
Yeah, my first modem was 300 bps. Almost 40 bytes per second! Do other stuff while you read downloading text = multitasking!
