I don't give a rat's ass about my mime system interoperating with GNOME. Its not a big deal if they are different. Its a mime system, how many times do you really have to have both DE's work with it. Chose a DE and stick with it, you won't have any problems. Any anyway, right now, what does the GNOME MIME system interoperate with? Just as much as the KDE system, which is, only with itself. So any claims of interoperability are BS.

My initial reaction to this project was "Bah, who cares about open source, my NVidia card works fine for under 100 bucks canadian".

But the more I read about this, the more enticing it sounds. I don't play games on Linux at all, so I don't care about that. And to have a nice driver, that is optimized for the new features in X11 like XRender and stuff would rock. The longer I use Linux, the less I want to bother messing around with compiling modules, so I don't even bother using the official NVidia drivers. Sounds like this will perform much better than the generic, 2D only, NV drivers.

Who knows. Might actually buy one of those. But his projected price point at $200 is too high. Even in my best "Stallmanesque" spirit, I can't justify spending over $300 canadian on this card.

Am I ripping the artists off? I don't think so, the alternative is not listening to any music because I can't afford it or pirating it entirely.

  14. Re:One reason why I'm still using Window Maker.... on Xfce 4.2.0 Released · · Score: 5, Interesting

Yes. I notice this too. I have no idea what causes it exactly, but you can definitely tell that MS Windows or OSX has a better "feel" to it than the Linux desktop (I haven't tried WindowMaker). I think it has something to do with the way redraws are done. KDE has long had problems with flickering, which have been fixed to a large extent in recent releases, but some problems still remain.

The thing is, it's so hard to quantify so its impossible to file any meaningful bug reports.
My best guess right now is that Windows seems to draw things to the screen when it is fully rendered so the entire menu/window/dialog will appear at the same time. In KDE I notice that sometimes windows will appear but will be drawn a second time after they are displayed. Perhaps it displays the text first and then redraws the icons or something.

Well this comment is starting to sound like meaningless blather, but I can't describe the problem much better.

FYI I almost exclusively use Linux, so no I'm not a microsoft troll.

Does it really cause you that much inconvenience to have it named that? Microsoft gets bitched at because their names are actual words (word, windows, excel) and KDE/Gnome get bitched at because they have a lot of K's/G's in their app names. In the end, who cares what the name is.
