    ROTFLMAO. When you start a busniess, ANY business, you need basic liability insurance. This entrepeneurship 101. Otherwise, if something bad happens, even if its not your fault, you could be f00ked.

    Well, I remember about a 6 months ago when we discussed a similar story. Shortly afterwards I was listening to NPR on the radio and heard "This program was underwritten by Microsoft", so they are definatley writing checks.

    hears the deal pal - my complaint wans't that I don't want to have to use media player. I am quite content with 8.0. The problem I have is being required to upgrade to a DRM'd version on M$ software - especially when the principles of backwards compatibility dictate 8.0 should still work.

    But that's M$, they break compatibility in one of two cases:

    1) To kill competition

    2) It's in THEIR best interests (e.g. not you best interests)

    What does the University get out of this? They have expended hours upon hours of man-power to fix a flaw in a companies software becuase I negativly impacted their ability operate. At the very least there should be some donated hardware. If I were the University President, If the University doesn't get a big donation, I'd take them to court.

    In the US, you are innocent until proven guilty.

    But Oppenheim countered that "their arguments have already been addressed by a federal judge -- and they have been rejected. Courts have already ruled that you are not anonymous when you publicly distribute music online."


    The above statement presumes that you are already guilty. At the very minimum there should be a hearing to validate that the a supeona is warrented (pun intended).

    Is it just me, or is anyone else experiencing segway sightings? I saw two here in town within a two week time frame. (1 looked like a knock-off tho).

    I saw Dean give a talk at MIT about a year ago and he did the whole thing while standing on a segway. Seemed like the most natural thing in the world.

    Yes they ARE serious and comitted folks, but that doesn't mean that they are'nt biased. Once while voting at the local voting place, the 'helpers' were not only helping people figure out the process, but also helping them decide to vote for. "Oh you don't want to for him deary, he's the one who approved that landfill on Maple St." This is illegal, but goes on in small towns all across America.

    You really have to differentiate between two main 'types' of music today - The one-hit-wonder versus 'real music'. The RIAA is all upset because they can't sell the one-hit-wonder anymore, people can just download it, listen to it until they are sick of it, wash, rinse, repeat. In this case, I agree with your mp3 categorization.

    In the case of real music, that is, music that is a collection of tunes that you like and not just a ploy to get you to pay 17$.99 for 1 song, I disagree. I recently got into punk music, downloaded some tunes from the official pennywise website, and have since bought 3 of their albums to put on my mp3 player. When the music is good and not just a BS marketing ploy, I for one am ready to shell out some cash and I think others probably are too. Part of the reason is that with good music, you turn the corner from casual listener to _fan_ which to me seems to make all the difference.

    BTW: Pennywise is a non-RIAA band.

    T-Mobile GSM phones have had this capability for about two years now. The thing is that it is not active on any of the phones due to concerns about customer backlash with the whole tracking thing. Once companies have worked past the acceptence issue, you can expect T-Mobile to active this feature.

    You laugh, but why not an embedded IC that senses glucose levels and then uses up enough so that your balanced again? Then, you WOULD have to eat a lot of junk food, becuase this kind of system can only use up glucose, it can't create it.
