Trained pigeons can do wonders... even against spam. Considering the amount of spam reaching relays, I'm thinking about buying stock from the company that breed google's pigeons.
I must admit that the moves 14 to 20 were a nice work of art, how he cannot approach a6 with a bishop and therefore captures the pawn, protects the knight with the bishop, protects the bishop with the pawn while leaving a way out for the queen and removing the knight. QUite a nice sequence.... I'm up to there in the game:))
incidently, I decided to give windows a try tonight. I tried to open a msdos window and type Control Panel-->Admin Tools-->Services-->Windows Messnger and all I get is "Access Denied"
Maybe I don't have the tright permission to do this. Ah shit, why suffer from all of this, I'll return to my no-hassle gentoo installation.
Drop the lectures and read the books. If the lecture is given at 150 words per minute(wpm) and you play it at 2x, you get 300wpm. A trained speed reader can read 1000wpm with a better comprehension than the 300wpm reader. On top of that, you can stop the book to re-read parts you one to pay more attention to. On a dvd, the pause doesn help you much, you have to rewind up to the point you want to review and listen again.
I went through computer engineering this way and I never attended a lecture. All I did was to get the syllabus at the begining, study the covered concepts in books, do the labs, go to the exams and that it. I saved so much time that I could work fulltime and go to college fulltime.
Furthermore, most of the books i read were not in my native language since computer books available are mostly written in english. But stiil, I saved lots of time.
Learn speed reading and drop television and class attendance, you'll be glad.
Slashdot News for the nerds. They are hardly nerd news anymore. It used to be better. And I tought that one needed to use linux to even access this web site. What kind of nerd wouldn't want to know the glibc version he's using.
What's next, a nerd who doesn't have any clue what is Schroedinger's cat or that IBM has worked a lot on teleportation... What? The nerd of the future will start spending some time in front of the mirror to polish the way he looks?
firewall cable modem, two snort IDS (one inside and one between the firewall and the cablemodem) with ACID. Iptables, Samhain (replacement for tripwire)
And I almost never get port scanned. So I must be an other exception.
The only alert I often get is the web recon. And the port scans I run on myself or other system I'm responsible for on the internet.
Resistance is futile... You have already been engineered by them as an anonymous coward.
As for the spelling and grammar, I was unfortunately implemented with the french grammar traits. But hey, let's compare your french grammar with my english grammar.;)
Raelism is a cool religion. Rael was actually abducted by aliens and came back with all this knowledge about how life on earth was created in alien laboratories.
One nice thing I like about this cult is that sexe is good and evryone can have sex with any one. They even set up big picnics in nature where everybody have sex.
Also, Rael is a car racer. Unfortunatly, when he was engineered by the aliens, he was not implemented with the good racing dna.
There was a controversy lately with them trying to recruit student from secondary school, which is, in my opinion, not worst than Catholic religion trying to recruit in primary schools;) And as far as plausibility of what the religion says, I think that it is more likely that we have been engineered by aliens than by a misterious god somewhere that is supposed to know and see everything.;)
For that matter, can you go into a CompUSA and by a PC without Windows? Not a chance.
True. In fact at CompUSA the printer "specialist" doesn't even know what Postscript is. Believe me, I tried. But why would anyone want to buy their computer at compusa? Well people that consider that computer are appliances would go there. FOr most of the people, computer are just that, appliances. They just don't care about what's inside the hood, what OS it runs, what chipset they have, what is the FSB speed, What there Northbridge and Southbridge is, what the latency of their ram is. They just don't give a F...! So basically,
Same thing can be sait about lawnmowers. Many Many of them run with a Briggs-stratton engine. Do I care? If I do, I might consider a honda, if I don't, like most of the people, I'll just go to homedepot and buy what ever there is over there and try to buy something that fits my expected price.
I am sure that Many of you kown of this book: "Handbook of applied cryptography"
well I found out lately that it is available at http://www.lockless.com/cryptography.html
in pdf.
There are many other texts available on this web site
This might be more for the nerds like/. is supposed to be.
I work for a big company and after years and years of talking about Linux, it's finally accepted in lower management AND middle management. Us, the tech people, finally have a word on what OS we want to install for different tasks. Of course, most of us are lazy bastards that don't want to touch their servers unless it is to install them or put them out of commission. SO we push Linux. The thing is that management has not understood yet that you don't have to spend money on an OS and they insist that we buy support and use RedHat. So we end up buying SUpport from red Had even if we don't use it. The good thing is that they do not know what we truly install;)
So my point is that eve if they gave Windows whatever adcanced server, we would have to be bribed big time for us to install MS OS on servers.
No shit. I have a a 3Mb/s at home and went to my sister's house to help her with her computer. She has a 56k modem that syncs at 40k. On top of that she was running with 32Megs of RAM. I had to download some drivers and software for her digital camera. It took forever. In fact it took so loooooong that she had to invite me my wife and my kids for dinner.;)
My father on the other hand has Highspeed at home. He has a 1Mb/s. He says, like the people in this study, that he doesnt care much for speed but that he likes to be always on, never have to connect to anything but I doubt that he would survive a downgrade to a 56k.
I guess that many people don't crave for speed because they actually don't realise how much bandwidth they are using andf how usefull it is. Just like a Londonian would not ask for rain but it might be different in Saskatchewan Canada, where agriculture depends on it.
We must also note that the average slashdot user probably downloads more than the average user. Can you imagine Gentoo on a 56k. THAT would be painfull. ON top of recompiling XFREE, Mozilla, OpenOffice, KDE, Gnome, one would have to wait for the downloads that would be as long as the compiling time, if it succeeds at all!
They will have access to an infinite(if they keep me alive forever) source of porno movies. Petabytes and Petabytes of porn. To pay for my survival, they could always connect me to the internet and sell what I think.
Where Reid Malenfant builds his rockets and decides to exploit the solar system ressources with a pregnant octopus driving the shuttle. In the story, NASA is completely oppose to malenfant's venture.
I wonder how far the book really is from reality after seeing the story.
But any how, it might not be a bad thing to see independant minds leaning on such a problem, especially without any government involved.

I think that there was a program called Knightcap that was araound a few years ago. It was a system that needed to be trained before getting any good.
When you download it, it comes virgin and grows as you play against it.

Both sites seem to work corectly with galeon, a web browser based on mozilla.
Because I did not feel it was sci-fi. It almost felt like a documentary. And that's what I really loved about this book.

How do you get a nonliving cell?
;)
You kill a living cell. A cell is not alive unless it's killable. It then becomes a dead cell which would be a nonliving cell. Hmm..
