    Yes they are.

    When's the last time you had to extract metal from various plastics, papers and other weird man-made chemicals?

    Point being landfill bad idea. It's just a by-product of "plenty of resources to burn" syndrome people all too happily adopt.

    How's about this. Stop making products solely to make money because if you keep it up in a few hundred years it won't matter!

    Um somehow I doubt that. You still have to sort, purify, etc all that combined waste to get something usefull. Sure if landfills were already neatly sorted in their constituent elements it may be a mining resource. As it is now they're just messes.

    As a sign of stupidy abound my school recently switched from paper trays for pizza slices to styrofoam containers. Hazaa for progress!

    I think there are bigger threats to the survival of mankind than some glow in the dark fish. For example, how about the consumption of fossil fuels? Or what about the sheer volume of landfill waste created daily?

    Of course I'm just some nutball hippie. We've got plenty of oil and land to occupy [in more than one sense!].

    I'd say to the advocates "take your energy you are wasting on this GM fish and use it to fight real crimes against mankind".

    The problem with solar is that it's inefficient. So if everyone has their own portable solar station with them they waste a lot of material and ironically energy.

    Why not just put more outlets at airports, restaurants then supplment the powergrid with more solar?

    So far of the five airports I've been to I've never seen an electrical outlet anywhere. That to me is just plain stupid.

    Even in the new Ottawa airport there aren't any. So they spend billions on some "art nouveau deco" for the airport then don't spend the time to wire it up. Hazaa!

    This is why business people are stupid. They never think to steps ahead of right now...

    Just block the domain name/ip of the hosted images. Most spams I get come from random IPs but usually have common IP/domain name for the hosted images e.g.

    hostz300001.com/ads/viagra.jpg

    Or whatever. I've cut down from 50 spams to about 3 or so a day by doing that.

    I bet a bayesian filter would work nicer but unfortunately I'm too lazy to mod the mail setup [that isn't mine] to get one installed..

    That's true in general. Not for *me* though. I seem prone to buy lemons even from fairly repudible local companies [though no problems from FutureShop yet].

    Still for most students and people paying off student debt I'd say a warranty is a good bet.

    Yeah but if you're website gets to the point where you need PHP to make it go you should get a professional developer to do it for ya. Even if it's your own data behind the scenes.

    Still my main point stands. The bulk of these programming books are just recycles with a new lang behind it.

    True dat. In my case the warranty was 25% of the cost of the laptop itself, however, as it stands now I can't afford to buy a new one. I need it for school + work + projects which means I had to get a warranty.

    Though I dunno if your logic works. Even if you can afford to buy a new laptop if it breaks it's still cheaper to use a warranty.

    Since my warranty is all parts + labour from FutureShop I doubt they will burn me if it breaks [that is, not by my fault].

    Hehehe yeah. Don't forget that "shit happens" too. You might get a power spike and boom, no more computer. Or the fan might cease up and no more cpu or the flourescent [sp?] tubes may be shit and boom LCD dead, etc...

    My gameplan is todo weekly backups. Then if say my LCD or cpu or whatever dies I'll snatch my HD out of the laptop, send it in for repair [locally I might add] and even if they replace the whole unit I still have my harddisk which is really all that matters.

    Such companies then shouldn't be able to process private data. Really that simple. Can't afford a professional you can't do business.

    As to your off hand remark about India there are plenty of developers in the States that would gladly code a website. The problem is they demand competitive wages [not slave labour rates].

    So yeah, if you're company is small then you outsource for developers. You don't just cut corners and have your janitor develop your website...
