    Here's a tip. Just because you can put linux on it doesn't make it cool. More often than not these "toys" have fairly complicated processors that are well suited for it. Putting Linux on an original Gameboy, now thats a feat.

    Eitherway, if I chucked out the money for a console I wouldn't risk breaking it so I can tell my l33t h4x0r storiez to my possy.

    More notably stupid friggin US disposable products. Who the fuck thought up the "swiffer" or whatever its called. Ever heard of a fucking broom? Fuckin middle class idiots have probably killed more people than all of the worlds tyrants put together.

    Similarly yuppies with cars, eight TVs, 6 million 40W lights, etc... [I'm guilty of some of these to an extent]. I still laugh at people with SUVs when I think of gas prices, hehehehehe

    While we won't affect the existance of Earth *our* survival depends on us taking care of the place.

    IANAEES....

    Both SRAM and DRAM require constant power to reliably store data.

    SRAM differs from DRAM because the cells that hold bits are always charged [howstuffworks has a diagram, basically its 5 logical gates in feedback]. As a result SRAM takes more power but has no refresh delays [and is bigger]

    DRAM uses capacitors to store the data and requires refreshing. This makes DRAM smaller, less power instense but much slower.

    For example, cache inside processors is a version of SRAM. If SRAM were as cheap as DRAM we'd be seeing 2MB caches common place nowadays...

    Could read as

    "$10 per month compared to last month which was 50% of this bill."

    As in 50% of 10$ not 5$, which is true or

    "$10 per month which is 50% of 5$ higher"

    which is not true.

    I would argue that coca cola bottles are desireable.

    If you're at a movie and I show you a windex bottle, a bottle of salt water and then a cool red labeled bottle of coke which would you go for?

    Its all about brand recognition. While you really don't want the bottle, you actually want the bottle because of what it gives you.

    Similarly the end user may give a ratsass for Windows but they want it anyways so they can get their apps.

    Now that I said that I can't remember which side of the arguement I'm on...

    You say people want MS Word. That's good. But they have to take the fact it works on MS Windows [and MAC OS for that matter].

    If you don't like that route there are alternatives. Corel WordPerfect, Sun StarOffice, etc....

    By your logic windows is a "word processor" or "web browser" etc..

    The core of windows is the win32 and C API [among other things]. explorer is just an app like word or Excel.

    In theory it should be possible to take the core win32 api and completely remove explorer et al. from the system.
