Sony suffers from the NIH syndrome. They insist on using ATRAC and they insist on using Memory Sticks. In the end it is the consumer who is suffering. My advice: stay away.
- it is crapped by some stupid user interface some marketing guy or even a nerd at ATI though was really cool, but makes the viewer application look like a boombox on steroids.
But not necessarily because one has to register more domain name extension.
If the yearly cost for a domain name was $500 instead of $25, we would see a lot less domains locked by some stupid domain name owners waiting years for someone to bid on their unused domains.
I suggest the following remedy for *any* company holding a monopoly in a market segment.
Take its market share in the market segment and subtract 50%. The number you get is the additional taxation imposed on the earnings of the company.
I the case of microsoft having, say 90% market share in the pc operating system market, this would impose them a hefty 40% extra taxation on their earnings.
One thing I'd like to see are drivers for Secure Digital cards. None currently exist for Linux. If Motorola embeds such a driver in the kernel or as a binary module, they have to release the source code for it.
What happens when the firmware for these phones are distributed to someone, eg service technicians? Shouldn't they be allowed to redistribute? And shouldn't they be able request and receive the source to the binaries as well?
I think we will see a trend in that any specification that microsoft releases will be covered by a patent from now on. It's a scary scenario, but one that has been foreseen since the first halloween document was released.
I have a computer with dual Xeon 1.7GHz. Those apparently have HT capability built in, but it's not enabled in the BIOS. Anyone know a way to circumvent this to enable HT on these?
Ask yourself; would Linux as a GPL'd kernel be as successfull, if it required the applications running with it either be GPL, or that the developer had to pay Linux $1000 up front for the rights to release applications for Linux under a different license?
Well, the implicaction of the effort of these guys probably means that there will be two competing X11 servers, very analogous to the Linux distributions versus the *BSDs.

Is this the reason we still haven't seem Doom 3 yet?
Hmm, not so shure anymore....
His own reasoning..
Also, it is well known that he left because he disagreed on the rewrite.
I find myself much more productive in a Linux / Unix environment. Linux is just much more user friendly for me.

You shurely must be talking about freesbie software?
There's no point in supporting a company that eventually wants to take away freedom from open source developers.
My next phone will not be a Nokia phone..
-after all this...

I've been a happy subscriber for many months. Their coverage of everything Linux is unsurpassed! Subscribe to LWN.
While America works to protect intellectual property, everyone else is innovating.
- is that is mostly an excuse to introduce a new CSS system since the old one is cracked..

Well, but if you search for windows, it displays the correct hit count on both pages. For linux, it hides the hit count on the first page. Try it.
