While you argue that Jim Carrey may be more "grounded" than Kaufman was, you're missing something. THAT WAS THE POINT. IMHO, no one ever was, or ever will be what Andy Kaufman was. Sure he pushed limits and frequently crossed lines but he wouldnt have done it any other way. Honestly comparing Carrey and Kaufman is not even something that can be accurately done but dont confuse his contraverciality with his genius.
Even if the G4 *is* faster than Athlon 1 on 1, I'd put money on Athlon in SMP due mainly to its EV6 architecture which gives a full 200MHz per CPU to the bus. Which is why I cant wait to see the benchmarks =) Vroom
I for one cannot wait to see SMP Athlon vs SMP G4 benchmarks. Both are excellent CPUs, and should scale well. IIRC, both AMI and Tyan have SMP Athlon boards coming out in 1Q00. This stuff is getting more and more important as people start to wonder about the longevity of Moores Law...
Carmack decided to do this for tracking purposes afaik. He recommended that everyone wait for their version of the game so that other game companies would see that there actually *is* a demand for alterative OS games. I think he is absolutely right and strongly suggest you do so:)
Well actually, if you think about it, you *are* using a 3d desktop already. Just consider the Virtual Desktop Dimension. This is just making that a visual dimension instead of a virtual one. I can see how some people would prefer that to the model you are currently using.
When, oh when, will we have a *nix client for bo2k? Believe it or not, I would really like to use it productivly but I need to be able to access it from my linux workstation. VNC is ok but really doesnt cut it.
Actually I brought this up on linux-kernel recently and inspired a long thread about the "right way" to implement them. As it turns out, there already is a patch that gives you working ACLs in ext2. Haven't yet tried it myself, though
Actually, IIRC the original Playstation was selling for at least $500-$700 in Japan and when they brought it to the US for "only" $299 they were accused of dumping, but nothing came of it. I'd say the PlayStation survived quite well.
Atari 2600 Intellivision Colecovision Sega Master NES TurboGrafix 16 Neo/Geo Genesis Super NES CD-i 3do Saturn (came out first by a few months:) Playstation N64 Dreamcast
It seems really nice and fast, and seems to support quite a lot of things, but there seem to still be a lot of silly bugs that I wouldnt expect to still be seeing at this stage. For instance sometimes when i highlight the location bar and try to type over the text, instead of disappearing it becomes part of the background and makes it impossible to read. Are other people getting these sorts of things? In any case, many thanks to the mozilla team and keep up the good work. I hope to see NS5 before IE for Linux;)
Actually, there is a port of G2 for linux but its not exactly the most stable piece of software I have on my computer. And I was unable to access the G2 version of it anyway. But search the slashdot archives for G2 if you want the player.
The one thing that concerns me about embedded linux boxes like this is what happens when 3 months down the road someone finds a DoS for the kernel thats installed on these boxes. Even if its flashable, chances are there will be more boxes left un-upgraded than there will be maintainted boxes. I hope this doesnt turn a feature (open source) of linux into a fault.

Is it just me or is this the single worst day of the year to release a product?

Actually, AC is responsible for maintaining and bux fixing the 2.0 series...
That happens to be pretty close to what libwine does. And exactly how Corel is porting their Suite to Linux.
