    I played it again just this year. Once you get past the graphics, it draws you right back in.

    That was arguably squaresoft's masterpiece.

    has been the only thing getting me to buy a console system.

    Consider the RPG users who have bought the following systems for the following FF installments:

    Super Nintendo: FFIV, FFV, FFVI (ff2 and 3 in USA)

    Playstation: FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX

    and now... PS2: FFX
    Note that I didn't include the NES because FF was just being established. But FF1 was awesome.

    I will buy a PS2 eventually for FFX and FFXI because I'm too bloody impatient to wait for the (often shitty) PC port.

    about the GPL.

    Let's sum it up:

    a) It hasn't been tested in court.

    b) You would have a tough time proving that it is actually stolen code. (Companies releasing closed source code? I don't think so.)

    c) There are ways to get around it, ie to split the binaries and just show the links to libraries.

    it's been used by users of ALL operating systems. I recall windows NT boosters putting down 95. I recall FreeBSD users putting down Linux and vice versa. There's infighting, complaining, etc etc. Welcome to the real world; people feel that you owe them.

    Linux doesn't support my internal alcatel NIC. Do I scream at alcatel for it? No. They are under no obligation to write the drivers, especially when it's costing them money to do so. Benefits aren't necessarily going to come out of them, so... why bother?

    Corporations are under no obligation. Do your homework before you get a product. It's that simple.

    If you fsck up, well... use windows. it won't kill you.

    People charge an arm and a leg for simple, SIMPLE services.

    Get up a FreeBSD/Linux server, install q-mail, and do your stuff. It's not hard, and that way you have better control over what happens. As someone else has pointed out, co-location is a good alternative. (and cheaper in the long run)

    Low budgets, encouraging volunteer participants -- now that's the way to run a space program!

    That's the way to run anything. The employees are happy, because they aren't doing it for money (hence the volunteering) but for the job itself and the goal in mind, and the results are astounding.

    We do this now with Open Source. Many organizations are on route to this style. Globalization will stifle us to death otherwise.
