A lot of people believe all sorts of wacky things. With few exceptions, it causes absolutely no harm. If Billy and Susie Coalminer don't believe in evolution, the world will get along just fine. We've got more biologists than jobs for them to fill, after all. If we miss gaining a few from some backwater state, so much the better.
The "fight" was over in Dover. All the silly battles and debates afterward only served to put a lot of money into the hands of media skeptics and professional creationists by fueling demand for the conflict. It's not a stretch to say that you played a part in the building of the creation museum or that you helped fund Ray Comforts latest video.
Yes, the reason creationism is a multi-million dollar industry is because of your misplaced priorities.
You got all of that out of the comment "Small glimmer of hope"? Not only that, but it's his fault too?
The Soviets practiced pop-up missile attacks using Foxbats. Theoretically it would have worked--as long as the SR exactly flew a known route and altitude, and as long as the SR didn't know they were there.
Reportedly Foxhounds could get a lock on an SR. Also reportedly we quit flying routine missions over the Soviets after the U2 incident, so they had no real opportunity to knock it down.
Answer to why it was retired is straight-forward, cost. The fuel alone was ridiculously expensive; a quote that sums it up- "It would have been cheaper to use single malt scotch".
True, true.
Assuming that any country that could shoot down a U2 could also shoot down a SR-71...
Yeah, I immediately thought of TVA, too. I believe Hoover Dam was also socialistic make-work for the masses, too. Or a quest for resources to grow population and business in the southwest US. Or something.
from wiki... "The Fall-Davis report cited use of the Colorado River as a federal concern, because the river's basin covered several states, and the river eventually entered Mexico."
Fwiw, I don't think a project like this would fly nowadays.
Really? I thought the R's outspent the D's in trying to oust Obama last election. I remember a few tweets of disgust from the Donald and others, disappointed that the money spent on the election was a huge waste.
More or less. I don't like politics; it tends to make me hate Americans. It can become an all-consuming disease, as addictive as any pay-to-win freebie on the internet.
BTW, I like your sig. Let's set up a protocol where I can acknowledge your wit.
Hope for what?

...and it's all turtles, all the way down.
Funny. An AC calling you a liar.
When I read your first comment, the "tinkle..., it was the brass hitting the ground" I took to be a sly dig at the VIPs.
Truth!
Yeah, me too. On their bellies, their medals tinkling on the ground. I like our version better.
Your comments sound reasonable. What are you doing here?
Sherman.
Hmmm. Yet Swiss Army knives are still made, sold and used.
Yeah. Good history, bad movie.
Exactly my thoughts.
Pithy.

I saw a C-130 take off with jato units. It is *impressive* seeing a big plane like that go into a 45 degree-plus climb.

Bad assumption.
Not true, not true.
...
"It would have been cheaper to use single malt scotch". ....
So still cheaper than printer ink ?
Pretty much.
They are reverting to (continuing with) their Jedgar Hoover days.
^^^ summarizes it nicely.
Corporations normally can't use deadly force nor can they incarcerate.
Yes, the day of the city-state is come and gone. There's still a couple of examples or so, Monaco and somewhere else, but that's about it.
Never Say Never Again.

I don't let my dog poop elsewhere. Don't make this my problem.

Maybe. He certainly had the chops.
You're wasted here, you should do stand up.
And get hit by lightning?
