  1. Re: Why only one OS? on Nokia Could Make Linux Top Embedded OS · · Score: 1

Nokia phones already have one processor for the cellular stack and one running symbian for the applications. Symbian doesn't do the phone stuff, unless you count the UI as phone stuff. Secondly why would they choose Linux of all things for "Desktop" apps? It can't even break significantly into the PC desktop market.

Here's a small hack (neat or not, I'll let you judge Mr AC). Go to Google maps and enter your desired phrase "biggest fool in the world" or somesuch. Of course it doesn't find anything interesting, but it still shows you a map. So manually go to your desired location (I recommend using the map rather than satelite view for this), . Then switch to satelite view and your desired zoom level, and click "link to this page", and you get a nice link to Google Maps - biggest fool in the world to send to your unsuspecting victim.

Prior to the accidents however, the shuttles weren't doing revolutionary work. They are basically poorly designed trucks (in spaaaace!).

  11. Re:Science fiction has changed... on Is Science Fiction the Opiate of the Geek Masses? · · Score: 1

The reason there isn't so much Science Fiction is that to a large (or at least some) extent we are living in "the Future" right now, and it seems pretty much the same as the past, but with niftier gadgets. If that is the case, then more Science is not going to "revolutionize the way we live". It's all still just people, and the trend towards sociology based SciFi just reflects that.

Rather than try to abandon the patent system, they are likely to lobby for patents to be only granted if they are worthwhile, where "worthwhile" means granted to the company that is doing the lobbying in the first place (or legaleze that means essentially the same thing).
