You can never "offload" more than a handful of the people on the earth. The energy required is prohibitive. Even if you could, one extra planet (and Mars with an unbreathable atmosphere seems like a lousy candidate to me) would make no practical difference whatsoever. Everyone is staying here. Get used to it. Invest in real estate.
When I was growing up as a kid, I never thought that Science and the Bible were necessarily in conflict.
They are largely not, except in America where the newer relegions take the bible as the starting point, and lack the centuries of "accomodating the real world so as to not look stupid" (or however you want to phrase it) that more established churches have undergone.
That said, the not treading on each other's toes that is done in most of the rest of the world is not entirely honest on either the part of the scientists or the churches as regards what they really think, but hey, who want's to cause a fuss, we are jaded old worlders after all, no match for the new worlders in the true believer stakes (scientific or religious).
As a scientist though, I think the whole "nobody said how long the 7 days were" school of thought is just wolly minded rationalization of the worst sort. If you are going to believe stuff, at least have the courage of your convictions.
Manufacturers don't want you to know that their HW is incredibly buggy, is made by a generic manufacturer and all they add is brand name, can be turned into their more expensive version just by setting some register, etc...
It's about protecting big established US companies from US small fry as much as it is about anythign foreign. After all, the laws apply to the USA a whole lot more than they do to anywhere else (for now).
Well, I've got to disagree. Firefox is plainly superior to IE, but for all the wishing that we might do about OO.o MS Office is still a quite superior product. There is certainly enough goodwill towards OO.o for it to become very popular, but for too many things it falls short. (and I know that many of those are "unnfair" MS Office interop issues, but that's just the way it is).
I'm not going to dispute your definition, but surely such a system is kind of pointless? Why have official releases at all with such a system? Why not just stick with the ocassional upgrades as they happen.
If you want official releases, better to just make a 6 month release cycle and stick to it. Support decreasing levels of bugfix for the last X releases. Then 1 year old version is "reliable, very few changes" 6 month old version is "semi-regular bugfixes happening", released today version is "acceptable test pass rate. some known bugs, regular fixes expected", and working branch is "compiles. use at your own risk". Released versions don't get new packages, just fixes or minor upgrades. The old software doesn't go away, so it is always "stable", but doesn't get in the way of something more up to date for general users, and bleeding edge people.
A Linux distro, OTOH, is expected to provide just about every program that you might ever want to use.
And their big mistake is believing that. They should be aiming to produce an integrated system that works well with itself, not a cd full of random software.
Doesn't open a popup for me. I get a popup blocked notification. I have adblock, flashblock, and several about:config options set (got from slashdot), though I have no idea which might be blocking it.
Evolution, and Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection are two very different things. You mentioned the first, I mentioned the second. One is a phenomenon, the other is a theory that explains the mechanism and extent of the first, and how it can lead to "highly organized life" from very humble beginnings.
You didn't talk about the origin of things. You talked about highly organized life. The "origin of things" is by definition (at least if we are talking evolution) not "highly organized life".
If by "creator" all you mean is "the start of the universe". Then I think that discussions about it are little more than arguments about semantics. Your first post didn't indicate that was what you meant though ("highly organized life", etc...)
That would be the theory of evolution by natural selection. You may have heard mention of it. It explains "the existance of highly organized life" without the need for a creator.
Indeed, and many rational people believed that for a long time, until a better theory came along that explains it all infinitely better. Then all the rational people stopped believing it.
The point is that unless you are willing to pay for it, don't expect any features that you want developed. I'm sure most CIOs/CFOs can understand that perfectly.
People should be allowed to do work at whatever they want to do without other people trying to make certain types of career "more attractive to women" whenever women don't represent 50% of the people in that occupation. If women are leaving IT, maybe it's because they have more sense.
The ones in perl are apparently (I don't know it as a fact, I just read it in this thread somewhere).

Out of curiosity, why do you need root to install an office suite (and beta software at that)?
They would have to put it on all of the sites that they syndicate to, which is a far from trivial thing to arrange.

Woohoo way to go phrasebook! Yee-eah! You tell him.
Opera already runs on Series60. It has shipped on the memory card for assorted Nokia phones already. This is just a new licensing deal.

They don't provide a service, they sell a product. It's an online music store.
Sues them for buying a song from their one of their members?

kudos. that's really neat.
They want you to upgrade, not keep the same old version you are not paying for anymore.

Simple, people don't like Mozilla because they think it's the re-incarnation of Netscape 4.x (shudder). Firefox is new and shiny.
Yeah, I hear dose lemons contain acid too. You can't trust nuthin dese days.
