I see this quote in an article near the bottom of the slashdot page: 'history demonstrates that only a totalitarian system needs news censorship, out of the delusion that it can keep the public locked in ignorance.'
Then I see this fortune cookie quote at the very bottom of the slashdot page: Human kind cannot bear very much reality. -- T.S. Eliot, "Four Quartets: Burnt Norton"
It's actually 23% (or 30, depending on whether you calculate it inclusively or exclusively). In case my sig has changed by the time you read this, you can research it at the fairtax website
You know guys, Secrity is right. Let's just throw in the towel and call it a day. No way are we ever gonna get anywhere with this whole "limited govt thing." Deep down, all people really like Big Brother. Ours is a lost cause:'(
Ugh! All this complication. All this arguing over whether it's fair for them to be making such small income and such massive moneys otherwise, whether they're paying enough into the system or not-- This is why I'm in favor of the Fair Tax- a nice clean simple equalizer.
That's right- it's a slippery slope. Next thing you know they'll be transgenic humans. Then legislation to make them elligible to run for president. Then manimal overlords. Then they wipe us out in a jealous rage crying and screaming "I just wanted to one of you, just accepted - that's all I wanted!" as the nuclear warheads detonate all over the globe. It's a logical conclusion if you think about it. That's all I'm saying- slippery slope.
This rough estimating (50-100, 30-50) is interesting. It would be cool to see a page of stats on how many submissions were made in a day, and then how many of those are non-crap. That way we could tell just how slow a slow news day is:)
It's really not a economic death penalty. More like a financial castration. James McCalla can still do business, just no longer by contaminating the electronic gene pool.
You guys, seriously, can we maybe get some negative consequences for moderators who have no idea what the fudge they're doing? How the hell is this redundant? Offtopic? Maybe. Funny? hell yes.
Redundant: adj, Needlessly wordy or repetitive in expression
IF the parent's comment had been said before _on this page_ AND added nothing new THEN it might be ok to mark it as redundant. ELSE, moderator is a dumbass.

8-7th anniversary, in the 6th year after 2000, on the 5th day after January... in a year with 3 zeros and beginning with 2, in the 1st month... Wait, what happened to 4? And why for 87?
What exactly does CDA stand for? From the icon, I'm guessing it's Constitutional something something This doesn't know the answer either (so feel free to reply with some reference so I or you can update it with proof).
What's asinine is calling it a "hot water heater". What's the point of heating hot water? It's already hot! What you want is a cold water heater, or as I like to call it (especially when I'm too busy to include redudant tempurature adjectives in descriptions of types of heaters), a water heater.
It's interesting that this is worded as "PostgreSQL 8.1 Available" and just a short while ago there was a story entitled "MSSQL 2005 Finally Released." Would it have been so painful to name the MS story without bias?
FairTax would never work. Why? Because the sales tax would have to be something like 50% on everything you buy. That would seriously put a samper in spending for the immediate future, possibly enough to cause a big ol' recession. Come on, would you head to the car dealership, see a nice new car for $20,000, and then follow through with the purchase when you find out it's going to cost $30,000 with tax?
Do the math, AC. Or better yet, read up on those who've done the math, instead of pulling figures out of the air.
The plan is designed to be revenue-neutral, so all the money that is supplied to the federal government for road work now will be there after the plan is enacted. How much you use the roads does not necessarily affect how much you pay in taxes. How much gasoline you purchase at the retail level does.
You know what the secret code for the backdoor to encrypted data on a harddrive running Vista is gonna be, don't you?

As far as it being a lovely but unpossible idea, keep in mind the same was said about women's suffrage and the civil rights movement.

In daylight the researchers say the pigs' eyes, teeth and trotters look green.
FYI, trotters are feet, not what I thought they were at first.
How do they taste?

Yes, it's gone from reasonable to excessive to beyond excessive back to resonable.

I think meant "Please see points 1 and 4"

Did anybody else first read this as interview of Dennis Miller?
If the acronym contains an F, don't ask what it stands for.

AOL is about as welcome as an anal probe.
Just keep in mind that not all anal probings are unwelcome.
