I was looking at RIMs product line and yeah I didn't see anything about Confidence and Trust probably because you can't patent them. I'm really shocked you've made it so far in life and hadn't learned this lesson yet.
Aren't you being a little over dramatic? Exactly how did you think the world worked? You really weren't naïve enough tho think that they cared about anything besides profits for the shareholders did you?
It also doesn't help that they missed the public consolation deadline. That one sentence alone removes most of the credibility and makes me believe that this isn't a formal group but a ragtag collection of people that got together over the interwebs.
The only being able to burn the recovery disk once is new information for me to store away. That's pretty shiaty even for them. I can't figure out why they would do this either. They usually have the recovery procedure check to make sure it's running on the authorized hardware. Just another reason for me to request a recovery cd or not buy it at all.
Also good idea on "burning" it to an ISO file. Thanks.
That's hardly the problem since the authoring of the book to begin iwth has a cost. I imagine a lot of authors don't exactly do this for free. Add to that the royalties (if any) the author gets for copies sold, and the fact that the publisher also has employees to pay all sorts of overhead and a motivation to make a profit then yes while making copies might be next to zero there still is all sorts of other costs to take care of.
From your point of view yes it would be cheaper for them to do it. From their point of view it's always cheaper to push the cost off on to the consumer. Esp when you figure how many people don't bother asking for a restore disk and you also figure they don't have to worry about being the bad guy beucase all teh other big companies do the same thing.
I had to spend 30 minutes with Dell to get them to send me the OS restore disk. Their excuse was I couldn't use it since I dont have a dvd drive in the netbook. I responded with if that was the case why did you send my a driver disk and a ms office dvd. After a few moments of silence they said they would send it out asap. Got it the next business day.
What was wrong with releasing KDE 4.0? Yeah it sucked but it's not like once they sent out KDE 4.0 they also removed KDE 3.x from 'the internet'. You have to make a choice at some point esp in an open source product where you you should send it out so at least you can get user feedback on it. I like how OpenSuse handled it. You could install KDE3.x and KDE4.0.
If you try to make it perfect and keep putting it off and putting it off you run the risk of it becoming vaporware.
That would only help if you plan the route before you leave and I'm also not sure where it would store the route. I mean if you close the app does it empty the cache or if you reboot the phone? That said I use my Droid more than my TomTom just because it's easier to always keep with me but I do miss all the opetions of my TomTom. Chosing map colors, display information etc. I wish Google would start making it more customizable.
Oh and I miss the English Woman voice telling me "In 2 kilometers get on the motor way". I switched to Metric just to add to the effect:)
The folks at the obfuscated C contest would like to point out that just because you see the source doesn't mean you'll easily be able to figure out what it's doing.
I wouldn't want my child using one of the school laptops either. What if it's gets damaged while in the student possession. Will the parent be responsible for repairs? If I can't afford to buy my child one I won't be able to pay for repairs either.
And why mac books? I don't like windows anymore than the rest of the/. crowd but if you want them to be prepared for the high tech future why not get Dells with Windows 7 at half the cost.
My nephew wants to start doing game modding (He actually wanted to make maps for a halo title but it looks like you need one of the expensive 3d molders). What would be a good title to get him that has a good sdk? is source sdk still a popular path?
I don't see business/offices/universities/libraries/etc getting rid of all their PC's just yet. I guess you could argue about what makes up a personal computer. Desktops are, laptops are, netbooks are. I don't think PCs are out I think more devices are picking up traits of PC's. The battery usage meter on my Droid would show that I use applications more than the phone (which could also be considerd an app)
You're correct. I don't get it furthermore I won't get it and unless you're a stock holder in apple I don't see why it should bother you that I don't get it.
Hmmm a ~$250 netbook with an OS that allows the installation of arbitrary non approved applications and the ability to install other OSs... Or a $500+ for a closed OS with no ability to install unapproved arbitrary apps.

Damn it people at least read the summary. It was some hack of the Blackboard learning system. Meaning it isn't something some teach set up in their spare time. It's a company product that the school uses. RTF summary before you go of on you're wild speculations.
As an engineer you should do what is right and not illegal. The engineer is the one who makes ideas manifest in the real world, and as such you should know that if it's illegal you're head will be on the chopping block. Up until that point where it's created it's just an illegal idea.
Besides the fact there are a lot of people that aren't convicted criminals that can't find work that don't resort to crime, but this guy had a job and chose to abuse that trust. If you get convicted of stealing cash from the register what company in their right mind will hire you and why should they? Not only have you removed any doubts about honesty your recored shows that you ARE less than honest. Like I said there are plenty of people out there looking for work. It's supply and demand, and when you control a commodity, in this case jobs, people that want the commodity are at your mercy. This guy had a chance to have a honest job and he threw it away. Why give him second and third chances when so many others are looking for the first chance.
And lets be fair just because your a convicted felon doesn't mean you can't get work, it just means your going to have to do more, probably manual, labor for less. That's life.
Again I find myself agreeing with your statements. I had this problem quite recently and you are exactly right. I didn't think about putting it in neutral until the second after it happened. The same goes for the ebrake, if you don't have enough time, which in car situations you usually don't, you don't have enough time to go from irrational to rational though. It's like the urban legend about parachutist dieing because they don't remember to use their emergency shoot. Which is exactly why the military and the police forces train as close to real life as they can over and over again.
The pricing of media has nothing to do with distribution costs, and everything to do with "how much will people pay?" I doubt truer words were ever spoken. It's not about recouping your costs. it's about making as much money as possible while keeping your costs as low as possible. And it's not just for media, it's pretty much anything people buy. The price of something isn't fair or unfair. It's what people will pay or won't pay. It goes along with people saying how much something is worth. It's only worth as much as someone else is willing to pay for it.
I also like Amazon throwing in the statement "They have a monopoly on their titles.", stay classy.

It all depends on you're point of view.

After reading this I asked myself "Is today April 1st". Glad to see it's not even close. Score one for common sense!

Just because it's a private network doesn't mean the MAC address is private no more than the street address for private property is private.
How did this go unnoticed so long? I mean 5 bars on the AT&T network and no one thought that was suspicious?

Exactly. It's just a tool. nothing more, nothing less.
(I would imagine sociologists love reality television, it's like putting a camera in a meerkats den)

I never said it was worthless, I just said I don't think for reasons listed that it was worth over 500 dollars to be used as a web surfing device.
Also had they put some version of OSX on it I would have jumped on it.

Blackboard's main website in case you are living in a cave In anycase it's obvious this isn't some crappy side project of some teacher.

So if it's the device to beat and the blackberry has more market share does that mean it's already been beaten?
