    Yep, so much for government of the people, by the people, for the people. It's only when their self-interest gets nicked that they move their lardarses.

    Right. For example, check kiting is fraud, and you may get prosecuted. Counterfeiting, while it's the same thing (if done in a small way), will bring the whole freakin' thing down on top of your head.

    Whenever I see "is this the beginning of the end" I know the submitter is full of it. First it was that Java DB, Prevaylor or something. Now it's this, next it'll be that.

    Actually, it originally stood for N-Ten which was the codename for the Intel i860 RISC processor.

    I thought it meant "New Toy." But I learned that on /. to start with. The things you can learn here!

    The system isn't broken; it's the people in the system that's the problem.

    Yes, the system is fine, even though it was designed and is run by broken people. Reminds me of Mencken's jab: "If x is the population of the United States and y is the degree of imbecility of the average American, then democracy is the theory that x times y is less than y."

    So, this is NOT new, just an application of existing technology and is NOT readly hackable.

    I've been using Gentoo for awhile now. I really like the fact that it only installs a base system, and you add what you need.

    I use OpenBSD, and like it for the ports. Hmm, need an email tool, cd /usr/ports/mail, look at the choices, cd pine, make install. Dependencies are built and installed before pine gets built (you can check dependencies before building, too).

    The real problem is that society, as a whole, just doesn't care enough about the unfortunates enough to do anything.

    You're daft. Society already sends more money than you can shake a stick at towards the poor. It's just that the state can't do the job right. I have no Faith in the Messianic State.

    The Matrix was totally boring and at the end I was kinda confused and asked myself 'was this all ?'.

    No no no. You don't get it. You have to watch 'Matrix Reloaded' and 'Matrix Revolutions' too (hollywood says 'cha-ching!') and only _then_ do you say, 'was this all?'

    So basically, the acquisition of Suse is FREE. Actually, Novell made an extra $300 million in stock value by announcing the deal - so it's better than free.

    Novell pays for SuSE, but they don't get a bunch of cash for stock going up. The stockholders do (if they sell). You're playing a shell game.

    A good read is _Nation of Cowards_ by Jeff Snyder. One point he makes is how we're willing to pay (poorly) people to defend us (as if they really could; police, military, risking they're lives) while we're not willing to defend ourselves, but cower in fear.
