  1. Re:Why would you expect Core 3? on Intel Core I7 Launched, Nehalem and X58 Tested · · Score: 2, Funny

I think they were on the same path you were thinking. Then they decided to have a naming scheme that didn't include confusion.

    Core (1) = 1
    Core Duo (1 + 2) = 3
    Core 2 Duo (1 + 2 + 2) = 5
    2 Core 2 Duo (1 + 2 + 2 + 2) = 7

    Thus i7

  3. What made me switch... on The Ultimate Leatherman? · · Score: 1

to a Leatherman was the new Charge that came out about 8 months ago. You can get the Compaq bits, it has a nice quality knife blade and even a pocket clip. I got the one with the scissors instead of the second bit driver. It has been very handy.

Oh and for the USB drive, the mini Swiss-Army knife with the swissbit key is the way to go. Light, knife, file, memory. That stays on my keychain all the time.

  4. Leatherman Charge on Best Leatherman-Style Multitool? · · Score: 1

I just got one of these for Christmas and boy is this thing handy. This is basicly the Leatherman Wave upgraded with several features. A special bit style screwdriver, Titanium alloy handle, 154CM blade metal, pocket clip, and locking mini tools.

I haven't looked back at my Gerber or Spyderco multi-tools since.

  7. The next wave on On The Future of ISPs, Both Large and Small... · · Score: 1

Just wait and see. The next wave of connectivity will revolve around wireless. Once you are able to connect close to T1 speeds anywhere in your town with fairly cheap equipment, we'll have another choice. The mom and pop type places will arise once again providing service to your house and portable devices. Then the larger companies will start buying them up to form nation wide networks that can compete with other large companies that are doing the same. Soon you will have your net account every where you go, but you'll still have to deal with the large companies trying to keep you under control so they aren't blamed for some l33t3 h4x0r's actions.

  8. A question of our liberty on Surveillance Society · · Score: 1

"We all declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing. With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others, the same word many mean for some men to do as they please with other men, and the product of other men's labor. Here are two, not only different, but incompatible things, called by the same name - liberty. And it follows that each of the things is, by the respective parties, called by two different and incompatible names - liberty and tyranny." - Abraham Lincoln

  9. Managed vs. Dedicated on Dealing With Bad Service From Dedicated Host Providers? · · Score: 1

I work for an ISP that provides multiple levels of web server hosting. There's managed, where the customer has limited access on a server that they rent from us. We take full responsiblity for patching the server which ever OS they choose. If they go with the dedicated server, they have full root access. Even though they are still renting the hardware from us (which we maintain) they have to take care of patching the OS and any software on it. Then if the customer requires us to help them apply a few patches, we charge for our time.

Why not use something like Jedi?
