    You know what though, what you should REALLY hook up to your computer is a 5 1/4 floppy drive.

    Or better yet, hook up a cassette recorder to load programs into memory like the old Radio Shack TRS-80.

    Also, you prove my argument when you say: "Furthermore, Windows 9x and NT can boot off any device connected to it as well. I boot NT off a Castlewood Orb and 98 off a Zip."

    Not me. I don't have any floppies. Also, since when is burning a CD not cheap? They're SOOO cheap to burn.

    But this isn't proof. It's well known that G3's are faster than PII's and PIII's at the same Mhz.

    Show me a link out there that disproves that please...if not, shut the fuck up.

    They've already worked that out:

    Yes, there were concerns..but they're being ironed out. It amazes me that everyone thinks in terms of "forever"....like nothing can ever change or be modified.

    I've looked on the net, but can't find anywhere that shows that the PII or PIII outperforming the G3 at all.

    Can you provide a link or anything? Or are you just talking out of your ass?

    How do you figure? I work in a Mac environment also. I work on the latest G3 at the moment, yet we have very old Macs still chugging along here...we even have an old IIci working on the job.

    We never throw anything away. Also, could you please clarify for me how difficult to upgrade the Blue and White G3's are? You mean upgrade cards to G4's and new video cards and stuff like that DON'T exist? Guess we better cancell our order for all that then.

    Get off of this! I haven't used a floppy drive in almost 5 years. Not once in those 5 years. Both at home and at work. Neither does anyone else where I work.

    Of course, Mac's are married to the floppy like PC's are...since a Mac can boot off of any device connected to it...be it a CD-ROM, Zip, Jaz, extra HD.

    Get over it. The iMac is a sucess...AND IT DOESN'T HAVE A FLOPPY. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

    Sheesh.

    They sure don't know what their doing, do they?
    They sure aren't selling any computers, are they?
    They sure are screwing up yet again, aren't they?
    Steve Jobs sure doesn't have a clue, does he?
    People sure aren't buying iMacs, are they?
    The new G4's sure are slow, aren't they?

    Now we can add: Firewire sure will die because Intel says it will, won't it?

    Yes, there were USB devices, but not that many.

    Hell, USB wasn't even fully supported in Win95(well, with another patch to the OS it could somewhat)...had to wait for Win98 for that. Linux is JUST NOW getting USB support in it's Kernal (thanks in a large part to the guys doing LinuxPPC writing for iMacs).

    But hey, if Intel doesn't want to use Firewire, no big skin off my back. They also don't use PowerPC's...and that's not hurting Apple either you know!

    This is all just FUD spread by Intel to promote USB 2.0. There will always be the cattle out there that believe this crap.

    "Intel says that Firewire is dead, USB 2.0 will replace it".

    I guess Intel has bought space or invested in Slashdot. Oh well, I knew this place wouldn't remain "free" for very long.

    I use Firewire. My friends use Firewire. The store I go to has devices and computers that have Firewire.

    Also, you can't count the iMac...since it doesn't have Firewire.

    Where do you live? The moon?

    But it's not dying on the Apple side of things. Seems to be going strong there with more and more products being introduced and announced as we speak.

    Remember USB was pretty much going no where also until Apple brought it out in the iMac. How many USB devices were there before iMac? How many now?

    Many might say that it wasn't the iMac that made the jump in USB popular...but then just look at all the translucent USB devices that go along with the iMac's color scheme.

    I see Firewire not moving as fast as USB...but I don't see it dying out any time soon.

    MacOS X will have SMP support and the G4 is built to work with other processors in an SMP layout.

    So, put your 4 PIII in a box...but will they beat a system with 4 G4's in it?

    As for price...so what? Is that really hurting Apple? I don't think so.

    And I have to admit, it was pretty funny. The movie they picked as the last was REALLY bad. I mean, it's been a long long time since I've seen a movie that bad. (Though, Titanic springs to mind...but I digress).

    I almost lost it when Diabolik and the main bad guy jumped out of the plane and they were falling and having a conversation at the same time. Pretty funny stuff. And it's even funnier to think the people that made this thought it was good!

    I'm one of those that thought the show really went downhill when Joel left.

    Then it really went downhill when Trace and Frank left also. Though the new guy they had doing Crow sounded just like Trace.

    I thought the movie was pretty funny though.

    Oh well...all good things must end.

    Also, where did you hear/read that they spent 15 million on advertising? Not that I don't believe you, would just like to read the article...it sounds interesting.

    But Lake Placid was terrible. David Kelly fell far when writting this piece of garbage.

    Of course, I expected this for a long time. Where does he find the time to do anything? Between writing all of "Ally McBeal", writing almost all of "The Practice", getting "Chicago Hope" whipped back into shape and again writing for that show...and then boning Michelle Phiffer between all this. WHEN does the guy sleep?

    For YEARS I've been waiting for a movie that is truly scary. Blair Witch is very scary and stayed with me (and my dreams) for a very long time.

    Why can't Hollywood listen to the people to see what we think is scary? It's like they think they know what's best and put out crap like the remake of "The Haunting". With a huge budget and all these special effects, it just wasn't scary at all. The original "Haunting" was MUCH more scary...because it DIDN'T show you anything. You only heard something...like that pounding on the door...then hearing it move down the hall.

    Your imagination of something is more frightening than any special effect that they can dream up...which is why Blair Witch works and the remake of "The Haunting" falls flat.

    I don't want to have to program anything just to surf the net or balance my checkbook or send some email to someone! I get 100% out of my computer and I've never once programed anything...ever!

    These programs perfectly suit MY needs. How dare you say they don't! What could I possibly gain by writing my own programs? Nothing.

    I personally have no need to use Perl either. But guess what, I am using MY computer to it's full potential...for ME!

    Why do I have to know how to program just because I want to check the weather this weekend? Or check out the news? Or do a little writing?

    Well...ok, let's take your little rant and apply it to something else. I personally believe that anyone who really uses a car should know how to build one from scratch, in one way or another, depending on what they use the car for.

    I personally believe that anyone living in any type of dwelling should know how to build that dwelling from scratch.

    I personally believe that anyone living should know everything a doctor does, in one way or another, depending on what they use their surgical skills for. I'm not a doctor, but it's a skill that I have found to be invaluable.

    Yes, but are they close from medium format trannies? 8x10 Velvia trannies?

    Thats why our clients still give us trans to scan (Linotype/Hell scanner here) still.

    Regardless, I'll always have a job. The digital files that we get from out clients are always in HEAVY need of color correction and/or retouching. And it's really scary when they get ahold of Photoshop and start playing! While they may be doing more and more retouching on their end in the future, they'll need Matchprints/Cromalins/Approvals etc etc to proof...even though we're getting more and more into filmless printing (ie Creo direct-to-plate systems).
