  1. Before and after photos on Post-Katrina Images on Google Maps · · Score: 1

If you happen to have a copy of Google Earth Plus (which uses pre-Katrina satellite photos), I suggest running it and searching for New Orleans, then open up a browser tab or window and compare it with the new Google maps of the city. The before and after images are a sobering contrast.

Sorry, I think thats it for Kaufmans (no more updates expected). Ive used it since it came out, and has always been good but too buggy. The truth is , there is no perfect email client. They all have major drawbacks as far as I can tell, and being very picky, I've tried THEM ALL, freeware or not, fat client or not. For now I switched back to Eudora Light, although the fact that this POS downloads spyware advertiseing EVEN IN PAID MODE really irks me. I'm trapped though, help! ALl email clients suck!

  4. Re:wha? on Intel To Drop RAMBUS In Favor of DDR RAM · · Score: 0

This is a piss-poor idea all around. True, Nobody likes Rambus as a company, but RDRAM is simply the fastest consumer level memory type available that there is, by a longshot. This a significant step backwards to pander to the low-end budget masses. On the upshot, perhaps RDRAM will get even cheaper! If you step back and look at the big picture, it's amazing actually how much Rambus's retarded lawsuits and business practices actually hurt Intel. It's a shame.

  7. Don't disgrace a P4 with anything less than RDRAM on Is Rambus Destined to Return? · · Score: 0

I didn't like Rambus either. Hated them and the bs lawsuits they busted out with. However, I also knew just how much faster RDRAM was, and reading this just confirms what I've known and been enjoying for months: a P4 paired with RDRAM not only rocks, but it's simply the only way to go if you're getting one. A 20 stage pipe on a proc demands the higher thoroughput dual channel RDRAM offers. If saving a buck is the prime concern, build an athlon XP box!

  13. Re:"good" p2p? on Searching for Pro-Napster Experts and Speakers? · · Score: 1

As a recording artist, already signed and with several albums out, I completely disagree. Napster is (read:WAS) an excellent means of distributing our songs as a supplemental promotional vehicle. Obviously if this was the only source, we'd never get anyware. However, owing to its HUMONGOUS userbase, I was able to encode and entire album (at an acceptable but semi-low bitrate) and get our band from NEVER appearing on Napster to ALWAYS appearing on Napster. Of course, if we didn't tour and promote ourselves via traditional methods, and if the material wasn't good, it wouldn't help. Still, any artist who derides Napster or its users IMO, is behind the times and has bought into the BS rockstar mythos. The reality is, the real $ to be made now (& has always been) in the music business is in publishing rights, merchandising, and by the labels themselves. Artists are never adequately compensated and most $ ever made by a band falls into the "recouperable loss" category, meaning the label fronted you the $ and now you owe them, bigtime. Bands are doing well if they can control the production of and profit margins of their merchandise (ie shirts, stckers, etc). Then again, this reply is far too eloquent and realistic to make sense to someone who's posts have mostly consisted of "burp" regarding this topic. ;^P
