Did you completely disregard everything he said, simply because you wanted to post something that sounded as holier-than-thou as that? This doesn't even have the slim arguments of "theft" that the various "media pirating" scandals have perpetrated. This is the reinterpreteation of character design as a game mod.

This is similar to fanfic, in my eyes, or a fan site using pictures proclaiming undying love for the series.

Unless you're just trolling, in which case I suppose it's all okay then.

  3. How do you prove it? on Confidentiality on Virus Sent Docs? · · Score: 1

Can you prove that the documents were sent to you due to viral activity?

What if I want to send internal documents to a competitor, or some other outside source. Could I claim immunity if I could "fake" the virus? Or rather, could I get the virus then purposely send an outsider a document and claim it was due to the virus? Or better yet, ensure that you get the virus, and that the only thing it can find to send is a series of very specific documents you WANT leaked?

Of course, you'd also have to fit all the criteria. You'd have to have outlook, and ms office, and people in your outlook address book. Those using lotus notes (and I pity them because I am one) and smart-suite (or evolution and abiword, etc) are immune and hence could not fake it. The document(s) sent would also have to be infected.

I don't (but then, I'm clueless) think that anyone on the receiving end could be held responsible should anything be sent to them, but the sender might be in trouble.

I'm having a similar problem, but don't know if it's due to a crappy CD, or secretive "protection".

The CD plays fine off of a standard player, but put it into a CD-ROM and neither windows nor linux can get track information off of it. It was most peculiar, and for a while I just thought that maybe it was a bum CD.

Is anyone keeping track of a list of suspected CDs?

Granted, "Ogg" is the name of the entire codec project (whereas "Vorbis" is just the audio portion), but if you're just going on a catchy name, "ogg" is it, baby!

"I've just ripped my 43rd album to oggs"

  11. Re:Stop whining on Adobe Threatens KIllustrator Over Name · · Score: 2

This is, after all, the ENTIRE POINT of trademarks -- so that the customer knows what they are getting. For someone who isn't already familiar with the applications, KIllustrator and Illustrator could very well be the same thing.

Funny, all this time I thought the ENTIRE POINT of trademarks was to keep a copy-cat company from selling a product that *falsly claimed* to be from the original product's manufacturer. Not to keep a competing product from having a semi-similar name. The only basis for this would be that somewhere, someone "might be confused", and that someone may use KIllustrator *thinking* that they were using Adobe Illustrator.

As I see it, the only reason this might stand up is because it's a very fuzzy area, and the intentions of the law were worded in a manner which allows an (apparently logical) misinterpretation.

  13. Re:Spam on ORBS Forks · · Score: 4

The main goal wasn't so much filtering spam as it was getting people to close their mail relays. If you had a mail server with an open relay, and knew that most of the mail from that server would never GET anywhere because of that, it'd be a pretty logical and obvious step to just turn relay-ing off.

Hence the name ORBS "Open Relay Behavior-Modification System". Modifying the behaviour of open relays by getting them to not BE open relays any more.

The filtering was a (nice) side-effect, or a means to get to the end.

  14. With all these game systems on Squaresoft To Go Multiplatform · · Score: 2

With all these game systems, each having unique excellent games it's getting to be a tough time on the pockets of someone like myself who just has to have one of all of them. No big complaints there, I'm spending the money willingly, but it's getting to be annoying trying to figure out how to hook them all UP.

Is squaresoft going to be producing the SAME game for each of these platforms? I've seen it before where two versions of the same (titled) game had small differences dependant on the platforms.

I imagine it's all just different types of data files from the game perspective-- it's only the various parts of the game and rendering engines themselves that would need to be rewritten on a per-platform basis. That would mean that the people desigining the "game" part of final fantasy wouldn't care what the "engine" people were doing for the most part. Story-line, gameplay and the rest *ought* to be the same, just small differences in rendering capabilities, loading speed, etc.

And on my first note, has anyone found anything better than a 4-1 switch for multiple game-systems? I'm currently chaining a pair of Recoton switches in order to get VHS, DVD, PS2, Dreamcast, N64, and SNES all on the same tv (the NES is the only one using an RF Modulator still).
