A lot of e-mail clients already point out links where the text is a URL that does not match the URL the link points to. (Thunderbird says it thinks it's a scam e-mail, my Uni's webmail highlights such links in red and displays a message)
I have my bank e-mail balance updates and transactions. I don't see what's wrong with that. There's no links... what's somebody going to do, lie to me about my balance?
Umm, the complaint is about the drivers refusing to allow PhysX on an _NVidia_ card, if an ATI card happens to be in the system (being used for the display for example)
This. The pundits like to say that public opinion of the president and congress is falling because they are pushing for these reforms. The fact is, it's falling because they _aren't_ pushing for the reforms that the people put them into power for, and in fact doing the exact opposite in some cases (Obama supporting extraordinary rendition, etc)
I agree that tenure causes problems, but the problem with eliminating tenure is that the truly great teachers will always be controversial because they'll be teaching students to think critically, question everything. So junior goes home and points out a flaw in his parents' preferred ideology, parents get all mad and start calling for firing the teacher. Admin gives in to pressure, and you've lost a good teacher
I understand that there's perhaps some such effect there that I'm missing. But when even simple things like installing a package or trying to configure the network don't work, I find it hard to imagine how my expectations in that case are any different from an average user's.
I think perhaps the problem is that techie users expect different things even out of a "user-friendly" distro than average users. For example, my dad figured out how to install a font on the eeepc default distro, while I was still completely stumped.
And every time I try Ubuntu "one more time", I am amazed that people call it the most user-friendly distro. I can never get anything to work in it. My go-to "it just works" distro right now is Fedora, and that's what I recommend to people because things actually work. Of course most of the time I personally run Gentoo or Slackware, but there are occasions when I want things to just work.
But is that really better? Is the problem with using the phone that you're using a phone, or that you're distracted? If you are somehow able to use the phone without being distracted, what's wrong with that?
Except for the cost, that sounds exactly like the process for young people coming of license age in Michigan. If you're already license age though it's easier (no guided driving or classes required, just the on-road and written tests)
Yes, if the LEDs cost the same as incandescents. And if they provide the same quality of light. (I don't know if they do or not, but I know CFLs give me headaches)
Dude, like LordKronos said, how about you read the _actual_ wording before making up BS arguments? What part of "Any person who is present or who is not present during a private conversation" says "present in"?
Please point out the word participant in the law. Oh wait, you can't because that's not what it says. (See other people's explanations above of what "present" obviously means)
It doesn't say "part of the conversation", it says "present". In other words, it applies to 3rd parties listening in physically or with a wiretap. Eavesdrop is a pretty clear word... you can't eavesdrop on your own conversation
Umm, how can you make a call when there's no service? Perhaps you meant no service from your own carrier? I don't know about the rules in Australia but in the US 911 calls have to be taken by any network whether you're a subscriber or not.
The problem lies exactly in the "intelligent voters" part that you dismiss so rapidly. With a large mass of truly dumb people (I don't mean current society, but a potential of where we're heading), you end up with things like voters forcing Brawndo to be used for watering plants.
Exactly. Typing was a required class for me in middle school and I'm sure I barely passed. I can type pretty fast, probably not as fast as some, but really, I can type as fast as I think so who cares? Hasn't hurt me in software development at all. (I have a weird peck method where I use about 4 fingers total. I have muscle memory of where all the keys are, but probably couldn't tell you most if asked. I usually look at the keyboard while typing but sometimes catch myself not looking.)
Copyright violation is not theft, it's copyright violation. And no, the distinction is not academic. Stolen property can be taken back by the rightful owner, but the remedy for copyright violation is a civil suit or settlement for damages.

Sure, he can get mad. And he can pull his support from the company that won't support the products he wants. And that's what he did.

So apparently the Ubuntu fanboys don't like me mentioning that their distro doesn't actually work... my first flamebait mod ever :)

There was an article about MS Research's "barrelfish" OS that disappeared and got replaced with this one.
Isn't that what alli does?
*Stares at calender, hoping it's April 1st*. Then again, I guess this sort of thing is to be expected, with them adding things like the Awful Bar
Unfortunately with manufacturing stopping you'll soon have to pay $3 to replace them. :( Which is why I've been stocking up on the real light bulbs

It's not ideal, but check out ionice
