What about all the national dial-up providers like NetZero (first name that came to mind, I know they charge money now)? How does your phone company stop people from using them?
This thread reminds me of the instant-message type SMS text view on Palm Treo phones. No other phone that I have found does it the same way.
I haven't used a Treo so I can't be 100% sure what you're talking about, but Android has a IM-style SMS display where it's one long back-and-forth display of messages that you can scroll around in. I suspect the iPhone probably does something similar
It's a combination of both. Sometimes you'll get a result immediately (say for a clear shot of the front cover of a book), which is the automatic algorithm. When it takes a few minutes, it's people. (I read this somewhere in the help or description of the app and have had both types of results)
I'll stick with my tried-and-true ext3. Tried reiserfs several times with lots of problems (unrelated to the creator's other problems). Tried jfs and had massive corruption and freezes that would lock up most of the kernel. Never had a problem with ext2 or ext3. Given the fact that everybody else also seems to think that reiser, jfs, etc. are also great alternatives, it makes me wary of btrfs.
how can I put the same file into two windows displayed side by side?
Focus the file you want to split. Go to Window->New Window. Now you have 2 tabs for the file. Then right-click one of those tabs and click "New Vertical Tab Group"
And technically, if enough states decide to do it, they can assemble completely outside the federal government and just dissolve the whole thing, then go it alone or whatever is decided at that point, a new alliance or alliances. it just And might get to that point if conditions keep worsening in the US.
Except if we are afraid of a few criminals being able to sway laws, perhaps those are unjust laws to begin with. Say somehow there was a law passed under some craze that made eating pizza illegal. And 90% of the population was put in jail after they realized they Congress just passed a stupid law. Now the remaining 10% hate pizza anyways. Shouldn't those 90% be able to vote to remove those legislators? That's my basic problem with stripping criminals of theright to vote... you assume that all laws are always right the first time, and anybody disobeying them is a bad person who would try to destroy the system. If laws are reasonable, there will be few criminals, and allowing them to vote should not sway the outcome.
That's one of the reasons I love T-Mobile. Equally easy to accidently hit the browser button, but it takes you to their ringtones, games, etc. shop which (unlike the other providers) there is no charge for browsing or downloading (other than the actual cost of the thing you're buying).
Verizon has a way to disable data without disabling picture messages. The rest of my family is on Verizon and they have it set up that way. (Apparently it's a different setting than the generic block data that some reps don't know about)
I bought an HTC Magic with android 1.6 from craigslist. The phone WILL NOT operate without a sim card.
95% false. While most of the phones I've had do that, the MyTouch 3G (=HTC Magic) does not. It says no sim card, but press menu to unlock the screen and you can go do whatever. Unless you're complaining that you can't activate the Google account to get in, which there are WiFi work arounds for. But once the phone is set up, you can definitely use it (not for calls obviously) without a sim card.
The same way Beck and co. have people convinced that Pres. Obama has not released his birth certificate and is hiding something, even though he has. Parody.
The insurance companies are making noise publicly to make it seem like they are opposed to it, thus making people more likely to be happy that the bill, which is actually a handout to the insurance companies, passed.
Linux kernels that I've used do include some sort of charging-only driver. Try plugging it into a Windows box without drivers installed and it won't charge.
I like the Android Market's 24-hour return period... not sure if App Store has something similar. That way you can buy an app that seems good, try it out, and return it if you don't like it.
Not true. I just tried Verizon again against my better judgement and not a _single_ phone they had was uncrippled. I looked around myself and the salespeople also said that there was none.
I agree with everything else, but PNG is quite common now.

No. http://www.snopes.com/business/misxlate/nova.asp

But you can't go looking for it, which is what scrolling around to find the information is.
Umm, statutes can be changed.

Your post does not address the central question... what is the downside in letting felons vote? And not all unjust laws are unconstitutional

I think we had some states try that once...

T-Mobile is generally pretty good. People do complain about the coverage, but in my area it's better than Verizon's.
You can do this with Verizon too, but it's somewhat more inconvenient. (You need to go to the website and tell it to switch phones)

And then there's those of us who like the blocky bright games and buy the Wii because of them. I see no real reason to get a PS3 or Xbox 360 when the vast majority of games are dark and not cartoony. http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/2005/11/blue-sky-in-games-campaign-launched.html
Umm, did you read the post you were replying to? He's on your (and incidentally, my) side.
I've never had a popup ad on Slashdot, whether attempted or successful. And I haven't checked the checkbox and I don't have adblock or noscript on.
