Yay - rationalization that your "team" is okay, because, after all - they're your team.
Please folks, there's no way you're voting for a democrat and republican and *really* thinking you're going to get change. They're all part of the same party, they're all buddies, and they all have roughly the same goals - take lots of your money, waste it, pass laws to control your life, invade other countries.
The OP is correct, any candidate for change has already been eliminated (Ron Paul, Mike Gravel...)
Vote third party. Any third party, for that matter.
... and yet McCain and Obama's teams work very hard to use these kinds of ballot access laws against the Libertarian and Green parties. Why is that okay?
I don't. If/when gas prices go down, SUVs will be back. Car sales in general are down, people are jumping to hasty conclusions about the demise of the SUV.
Why don't we just stop subsidizing both corporations *and* citizens?
It seems to me that corporations had a lot more to do with making the US a great country than did big government. Pity we flushed it all down the toilet with corruption and a nanny state.
I'm a heavily active home brewer and have been following beer ingredient prices closely. The problem in the US, at least, is the idiotic government subsidies for corn to produce ethanol has caused too many farms to switch away from other crops - for example, hops. There's now a world-wide hop shortage for many varieties of hops - all so we can waste more energy to produce ethanol so that Arches-Daniels-Midland can rake in billions after bribing congressmen.
It's okay though, because driving up food prices isn't going to hurt anyone, and it's very important to get a false sense of accomplishment on environmental issues.
While I'm certainly glad they're doing it, I don't for a second think we have anything to thank for this other than partisan politics. These guys stomp on our rights and take our money every day they're in office, this time it's just convenient to attack Dubya.
That's the answer. No, he has not quit. He's going to the convention to preach the ideas of freedom, peace, and prosperity - even if nobody wants to hear about those three.:)
All he's said is that it's less likely we'll have a brokered convention, so the delegates won't get the opportunity to vote their conscience. Ron has a higher percentage of delegates that like him than delegates that were awarded to him - so if it came down to an unencumbered vote, he had a better chance.
OTOH, lots of people in the Republican party hate John McCain - so who knows what might happen. Maybe they'll drag up new evidence on the S&L scandal.:)
But of course, we are all supposed to believe that he is not just another politician, and he is somehow fantastic and different. No. People like you that aren't capable of following his voting record or reading his actual speeches just rationalize whatever you want. We truly have the opportunity for "someone different" here, and your pessimism is preventing you from seeing that.
Actually, that's not true - that's just what you're led to believe.
"It is presumed, that juries are the best judges of facts; it is, on the other hand, presumed that courts are the best judges of law. But still both objects are within your power of decision... you [juries] have a right to take it upon yourselves to judge of both, and to determine the law as well as the fact in controversy" - John Jay, First Chief Justice
No - we'd just tell you it isn't your right to use the goverment's monopoly on the use of force to mandate that someone else's company spend millions because you don't feel like moving.
Why do you seem to assume economic success a prerequisite of being Libertarian?
I'd say the reverse is true; to be a lefist, you need to have a defeatist attitude - limited desire to achieve anything, and no faith in your fellow man to ever do the right thing. As a result, you think the One True Way (TM) is to force your neighbor to pay for programs that make you feel better.
My question is, why are any nerds leftists? I guess traditionally the leftist nerds I run into are graphics designers rather than engineers, so I suppose I can see why they stick to emotional arguments instead of logic.:D

The UK has always been 10-20 years ahead of the US in the utter pussification of society.
I can hardly wait to see what they ban next - or what surveillance they roll out to watch their subjects.

Who'd have ever predicted a bunch of people in academia would support democrats?! :)
I bought a used 2005 Excursion Diesel.
I can haul 8 people and all their stuff (got a fourth kid in the planning stages, 2 parents, dogs, cats, car I tow... )
It weights 7700lbs.
I get 22-24 MPG @ 65-75 MPH.
If I granny it enough, I can get about 16 MPG around town.
I'd love to see more diesels in SMALLER vehicles.
There's nothing worth fighting for that isn't worth fighting dirty for.
...
Admittedly, Iraq wasn't worth fighting for, but
I don't. If/when gas prices go down, SUVs will be back. Car sales in general are down, people are jumping to hasty conclusions about the demise of the SUV.
... will never ask to see my papers! :)

Finally, I think there's something government has covered for me.

(and for the record, I like attacking Dubya...)
Why has the DoD not simply disconnected from the Internet in light of all the threats and (apparently somewhat successful) attacks from abroad?

You're worried about corporations?
Government has one thing corporations certainly don't : a monopoly on the use of force.
You fears are misplaced, or at least prioritized incorrectly.
Stop voting for the same old demopublicans, people. It's really that easy.
1. Appoint Ron Paul as Vice President
2. Resign
I have to appreciate the subtle slant that somehow the Democrats are trying to save us from this.
What a joke.
This police state is brought to you by BOTH halves of the demopublican party.
I hope Hillary wins just so some of you people *MAY* realize there's no difference.
Ron Paul, Mike Gravel, or give it up - this Republic's done.
Actually, that's not true - that's just what you're led to believe.

We're smarter than you. :)
:D

I sure hope this judge never leaves anything where it could be stolen.
