1) A private sector company that will lose the contracts because their stuff is so blatantly crappy.
or
2) Highly motivated (snicker) government employees that are directly tied to the people in power (who presumably want to stay in power).
Thanks, I'll take the capitalist approach.
There's nobody with half a clue that hasn't heard about all the problems with diebold, yet these government employees (the same people who would be involved in developing a GOVERNMENT system) won't cancel the contracts.
Why's it matter anyway, socialists win regardless of whether a republicrat or demopulican gets elected ?
That must've been awful, having a politician that actually said what he believed, and actually had some refreshing ideas on freedom.
You're right, let's get another stooge in there like dubya or kerry that strip us of freedom after freedom, raids the public coffers, but has good speech writers.
I'll vote for just about damn anybody over those two scumbags, even Ventura.
PS: That's just awful that you have to pay money to go to school. Maybe your viewpoint will change when you get off the public tit and start getting raped by taxes.
A study here in Phoenix about implementing a commuter train cited some research that indicated that something like 1/10th of one percent of people usually use such a train, despite costing billions.
What's the point?
I used to live in Atlanta. MARTA was great; if it happened to be going somewhere you needed to go. Sure, there were thousands of people that used it daily, but there were millions more who still drove because MARTA either didn't start or didn't finish in a convenient location. The effect on traffic and pollution was negligible.
They should ask what effect implementing something like the Fair Tax (www.fairtax.org) would have on companies' decision to outsource.
I have read in many places that 'experts' think something like the Fair Tax would make the United States much more competitive in the global economy by significantly reducing costs.
I'm wondering if any of these CEOs agree, and it would put a damper on outsource plans.
>Yes they are interesting but what would the recoil do to the mount (particularly the gimbles)? Also the full harnesses make it rather difficult to hit the ground for cover. The other point is that a gun is rather heavier than a camera so you need more of a counterbalance.
1. There are belt feds that aren't that heavy, like the HK-21 (~17lbs) 2. There are muzzle breaks that reduce recoil to just about nil. 3. Who said it was practical?:)
... because the country isn't chock-full of frivolous lawsuits against doctors.
All the while, we're seeing fewer and fewer people go to medical school, ob/gyns are closing up shop to avoid lawsuits, yet law schools are graduating more and more lawyers.
I can hardly wait another 20 years when it's damn hard to find a decent doctor, between the threat of lawsuits and the mountain of government paperwork and expense they're all buried under.
It won't help. People won't vote third party, they only vote for the current reigning Demopublican party.
The democrats and republicans use rhetoric to convince the less intelligent that there's actually a difference between the two, assuring that almost everyone votes democrat to vote AGAINST the republican, or republican to vote AGAINST the democrat.
Unfortunately, there's no appreciable difference betwixt the two, so we're condemned to continue down the slippery slope.
It seems like every sci-fi show, good or bad, popular amongst us geeks or not, gets cancelled.
Instead, we have these mind-numbing 'reality' tv shows, vapid sit-coms, and corny teenage melodramas.
I watch Enterprise. It's not that I think it's that great, it's just better than most of the other rubbish on TV. At least it's mildly entertaining, and I need something to watch while I exercise.
Does anybody REALLY want another Joe Millionaire/Survivor 14/Bachlor(ette) clone to replace it?
I might shoot plot holes though Enterprise all day, but at least my brain functions while doing it.

Generally speaking, I doubt many scientists who are experts in their fields and spent their entire lives specializing in a subject don't spike trees, throw red paint on women wearing furs, or make blatantly false predictions about the impact of humans on the environment.
Some "dumbass formulaic writer" is certainly capable of writing an interesting article that offers an explanation to the zealotry of many environmentalists.
However, I doubt you're too concerned, since you're most likely a 'fundamentalist environmentalist' he described, hence the knee-jerk reaction.
... before putting too much stock in tree-hugger predictions.:)

Yes, yes, it's just an opinion, but it's very interesting and thought provoking. It helped me understand (somewhat) the motivation behind the truly wacko environmentalists.
Hmm... let's see.. our choices are:
.
1) A private sector company that will lose the contracts because their stuff is so blatantly crappy
or
2) Highly motivated (snicker) government employees that are directly tied to the people in power (who presumably want to stay in power).

What ever happened to the right to enter into a contract?
If I don't like what I'm paid, I find a new job. Why does the government have to force someone to pay me more than I'm obviously worth?
The head of our local culinary school stepped down when he realized that the military consumes food in Iraq.
Rumor has it this has caused quite a shake-up in the pentagon, and the military is reconsidering their use of food.

Back when there were States Rights? :)
'course that was before we had double jeopardy...

I always wanted to use one of those industrial strength ones to build the machine gun supporting apparatus from Aliens. :)
Like everybody else has said, you have those two, you're covered.
However, I find myself frequently using tcpdump to capture data, then downloading it and analyzing it in Ethereal on my workstation later.
tcpdump -w myfile.dump -s 2000
No shit he's a slashdotter, he's advertising here isn't he?
Nice try, we know you're lying. You just claimed you live in the USA, yet SWAT teams knock. Har har har.
Who decides what's appropriate?
:)
Rationalize whatever you want, but he's correct, you are the Orwellian Big Brother, and what you're doing is dispicable.
Then again, I guess you're probably just bored shitless as an IT guy in school and need something to get your jollies from.
Maybe the solution is that Redhat should steal money from the taxpayers like NPR does ?
Hell, everybody else feeds at the public trough, why not them...
What's this have to do with republicans?
democrats pander to dumb people - just a different group of dumb people that make less money.
Both steal all my money and give it to someone else.
Why are you grand-standing that you're voting for socialist party A instead of socialist party B?

The price is now $29M + $9M to assemble it.
What a bargain!
RAID on IDE? Eww. Make sure you at least turn the write cache off on all the drives so you don't end up with a corrupted database on power loss.
Disclaimer: Yes, IDE RAID has it's place, but I wouldn't want to be stuck using it for a database that I cared about.
Is some form of punishment both for people that submit, and people that repost, duplicates.
Especially in this case, when said submitter claims it's "last weekend" when in fact it occured last summer, and was all over Slashdot at the time.
