You are right to make the point that JWs are happy to live in the modern world. It's a shame that they judge that the modern world as under the control of Satan, yet readily partake of its benefits 'for now'.
My original reply (and this one) are just showing sensitivity to a perceived defence of the JW org. That just pushes all the wrong buttons (those idiots put the fear of God into me, quite literally). Basically I'll challenge anything which looks like a defence of them.
A cult which teaches that those who leave will be destroyed at some unspecified future time. I would disagree with the statement that you can't get more modern than that. They also describe outside society as 'the world' or filled with 'worldly things', in contrast to their own utopia of gossip and backbiting.
He wasn't talking about the logical case for the UK to join the Single Currency, rather pointing out the difficulty of persuading countries to agree to a common standard. And since when has the Euro debate been strictly about economics? It will be a political decision, whether we go in or not. Similarly, politics would have a bearing on a given country's decision whether to join a single postcode scheme.

This series of programmes draws much the same conclusion. The link leads totranscripts of three BBC radio programmes about the CIA's history, from its birth to the present day. There is an interesting analysis of CIA intelligence failures due to lack of people 'on the ground', that is to say integrated into the society of countries they wish to watch and understand. Contributors include past senior CIA officers and one or two people who are still well connected in us.gov .

Florin! Right you are (this was all slightly before my time anyway).
The online manuals at mysql.com and php.net are hardly disorganised. Php.net is very good, each page of the manual has user anotations where people share experiences with pitfalls and handy tips. As for finding answers quickly, I like to have an introductory book to get a feel for the language and how it works but when searching for builtin functions, a search engine can't be beat.
When I worked a till, I found it easiest to count up from the price to the amount they had given me. So, for an 34 pence item payed for with 50 pence piece, it would go 34 - 35 - 40 - 50.
Do it once when taking the change from the till and again when giving it to the customer. Fast double-check and the customer can see that the change is correct.

Change for 48? That'd be two tanners (2 shilling piece, was that their proper name?).
I remember as a child being given sixpence for sweets which, due to decimalisation, was worth 2.5 new pence. I must be getting old because that wasn't a problem seeing as there were plenty of sweets priced at 1/2p.
Not flaming you here, but I have a couple of questions.
Are you sure that Google are on safe legal ground when mirroring sites? If they copy material without permission, they are no different to someone who photocopies a chapter from a book.
Are you sure that sites have to be submitted to Google for indexing? I thought their web spider followed links and indexed the pages that it found. Try searching for server error messages, or ' index of / ' , you will get a ton of results.
Whatever Google's intention, and regardless of whether they provide interpretation of content or just mirror it, copyright is copyright. If Google make a copy of my crappy homepage without permission, I can demand that they take it down. I imagine the reason material is mirrored on Google is that hardly anyone asks them to remove it.
I agree that the current system of people pasting content seems to work ok. But at the end of the day, apart from where quoting extracts for criticism, Slashdot could be asked to remove these posts just as it could be asked to remove a mirror of the site.
I'm happy to be corrected on any and all mistakes in the above.
If it is true that every possible sequence of numbers exists within PI, then why not just take the sequence which corresponds to the cracked Win2003 installer binary?
You might like the angle taken by the Register in their article.
You would probably have to set up Internet Connection Sharing, hand yourself in to a police station, then name Microsoft as an accessory. In the investigation, both they and you would be found to have broken the law.
I haven't seen any evidence of Iraq directly attacking the USA.
Regarding peace in the Middle East, I really hope so but only time will tell whether Bush has the will and stamina necessary to achieve peace in Palestine.

I'll climb down off my soapbox now

Sorry to get all serious about it, but I was spoonfed that crap from age 2-16, and some of the fear still lingers.
Winrar handles them all just fine, including .bz2 files. Try to get them to install it, might make your life easier.
Since UK postcodes do not have a 1:1 relationship with street addresses, I'm in the clear :)
I guess that UK describes a political entity, whereas GB (Greater Brittany?), describes a geographical area.
As a UK citizen, I use UK and GB interchangeably. GB seems more old fashioned though.

If the definition of a weed is "a plant growing where it's not wanted", then one man's weed is another man's salad (no dope jokes please).
Feel free to draw an analogy between that and the Fizzer worm story.
Being born in 1968, I guess any such implant would be about the size of a football.

How about we wire 'em up and ask them?

Just wondering, without worrying about price, who would go with Intel over AMD anyways?
Suppliers who are offered sweet deals if they exclusively supply Intel? I don't know this goes on, but I'd be surprised if it didn't.
