stated flatly that VB5 was used
to prototype a program that would run undetectably on unix-based systems
I thought the same thing at first. But it's not completely unreasonable. The prototype just has to show proof of concept. The real implementation doesn't have to directly use anything from the prototype.
I got as far as reading that paragraph, and the one where he says:
One does not know whether to laugh or cry. It has been quite obvious that the designers of SQL had little understanding of data fundamentals in general, and the relational model in particular; and SQL was hardly developed in accordance with good language design principles. If there were any doubts about that to this point, XML and XQuery make it perfectly clear that things are becoming worse, not better. It is not the seriousness with which XQuery specifications were undertaken that is in question here, but rather that of the knowledge and understanding of the specifiers, given that they are vendors.
I have great difficulty resolving those two! Where are his 'direct evidence' and 'refererences to sources'?
the party decides AFTER THE ELECTION who will lead the country
The really sad thing about this was that it wan't anything to do with leading the country - it was about opening fetes. The president had absolutely nothing more than ceremonial responsibilities. Who cares? The republican movement made out that it was a terrible model for no real reason, and so it was defeated.
If you are upgrading to 5.2-RC1 (or -CURRENT) via cvsup/buildworld, make sure that you read UPDATING - just like I didn't:-). Of course, this applies to any time you build. However, it's especially important now or you will have a broken system.
It's not quite what you asked for but it's close: Disc Stakka from Opdicom is an automated CD/DVD carousel. It holds 100 disks and is stackable to 5 units (500 disks) with a single USB connection.
Maybe you're joking. However, that's exactly the spec of my firewall machine. 486DX3-100 with 1 Gig SCSI disk running FreeBSD-current. I don't use most of the disk space though!
Disclaimer: I'm a non-USian and strongly anti-gun.
You sound very reasonable and (hence) you are possibly a person that I would not object too much to owning a gun.
assume pro-gun types are a bunch of unreflective neanderthals
Turn that around the other way. I contend that the set of unreflective neanderthals who are pro-gun is not empty. These are the people that I don't want around me with guns. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to establish who these people are. Especially when there are effectively no gun licensing/training laws in your country. Anybody can walk into a gun shop and buy an extremely dangerous weapon (subject to waiting periods etc.).
My country (Australia) has not banned guns. We restrict the types available (no auto, no concealed etc.) and there are strict licensing and training laws. I see that as an acceptable compromise between needs of farmers/hunters and the rights of 99% of the population who don't want anything to do with guns.
Sounds like you need (or have already found) the observer pattern.

And speed (not!).
You could try running it thrrough the HTML tidy program and see what happens.

I didn't want to compromise some of the usability of Linux for the security of *BSD
Seriously, what would do you think you'd be compromising?
Graham
Woosh!
at the end of the meeting you have x # of people, all of whose PDAs are ringing to tell them it's time to move to the next room.
Don't tell me... you work for HP.
Sorry, I used to work for a competitor! :-)

Er, are you suggesting that he should have been caught before he turned 18 but not comitted the crime until after? Minority Report look out!
Woosh!!
Moe, Larry, and Curly are turning in their graves!

Why do you think that "practicable" is not a word? I think that you'll find it appears in all dictionaries and it's used in many laws.

Works for me!
If you think Oz is a tech backwater, you'd hate to go to 90% of the rest of the world!

Coming in late to this discussion...

How does joining the Eclipse Consortium have anything to do with "moving towards Linux"? Eclipse runs under lots of operating systems.
Graham
You only look for females to date! That's discrimination!
I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but I think that
just don't eat the stuff
is exactly the point that they're making about something that's in your mouth 24x7.
Graham
Remind me never to eat at a "restaurant" with you!
