I understand that the European launch was slow. Thats why they had the price cut. Since then the Xbox has been doing really well with almost 50% of the market in Europe. Whine and cry all you want but its true..
Also your unofficial rumor is fairly inaccurate. The xbox sold more then 200,000 in Europe. I think the estimate is more around ~700,000. Also there are many excellent games coming out for the xbox. Morrowind,BC,Project ego just to name a few.
The truth hurts, and I understand that you have to justify bashing the xbox because it makes you feel better but the facts are the facts. Xbox is doing great in the US and is doing great in Europe. GO back to your kiddie Game cube forum and cry your eyes out to them. Stick to the facts here bud.
Your Micrsoft press release really is pathetic evidence of anything aside from the fact that Microsoft is one of the better marketers (pathological liars) out there. Do you have anything else?
Well other news sites including ZDNet are reporting the sales surge here too. Also it makes sense if you lower the price sales will go up. Xbox pricepoint in Europe was too high, however they are far from being dead. They've only been out for 6 months and there selling pretty well now in Europe.
I can guarantee you based on the pathetic sales of XBox prior to the 29th of April, that there was zero chance of the XBox representing ~50% of sales of next gen consoles in Europe up to that point in time from the XBox launch. Microsoft is feeding you its typical line of bullshit and you are only too happy to open up and swallow.
And you have any figures to back that up? Sales reports? Anything? I didnt think so. All you have is your own crappy opinion.
If XBox sales are so strong in Europe, then why is another price drop being rumored (http://www.cube-europe.com/news/102137936781456.h tml).
Umm... Your pulling that from a game cube fanboy website. How legit can that be? I would wait for official reports from Microsoft before I would believe thats true. Maybe they got the pricecut confused with the US pricecut.
Here is a question for you. How many total units has XBox shipped in Europe? That's right you don't know. You don't know because MS is afraid to release such figures.
Do you know? I thought you didnt. Well according to MS themselves since the price cut they've been doing fairly well in Europe. If you can pull out some numbers to contradict that maybe I'll change my mind.. but you cant soo. As for MS being afraid what about Sony being afraid they'll loose market share and already dropping the price? Even after there own execs said there wouldnt be any price cut? I think Sony is more scared then MS.
Nintendo has shipped 400,000 Cubes in Europe since their launch. A number that has been backed up by others in the industry
A lot of those were pre-orders and I'm sure it will slow down. This time of year is slow for consoles. Lets wait until Christmas until we can get a better estimate on how the XBOX is doing. Remember the XBOX launch in the US was awesome. Over 2 million sold. The europe launch was ok but since the price drop its been doing much better. The Japan launch has been slow but sales did go up when they released Halo there. Wait until E3. MS will announce a pricecut for Japan/US. This should help out even more. Plus Morrowind will come out also. IT'll be a good month for the xbox.
First off, they don't have many good games in their lineup for the forseeable future
I can only assume you dont follow Xbox coverage or havent picked up the latest copy of OXM magazine to find out that theres quite a few great titles coming out for the XBOX. Off the top of my head I can think of B.C., Project EGO, Brute Force, Morrowind, Buffy, Doom/Quake 4, Star Wars KOTOR, Matrix, SOE and GTA3. If you look at there release schedule there pretty busy all year.
They have completely failed in Japan, which is a real problem because many of the best games come from Japan.
Just because they haven't sold a lot of consoles in Japan doesn't mean there not getting third party Japanese developers. Capcom/Sega/Namco/Konami all have signed up up to do Xbox games. Also I wouldnt say its a complete dud in japan with ~200,000 consoles sold. They also just released Halo in Japan which Im sure will boost the sales up some more. Just give it some time. Japan doesnt make or break a console. Look at the n64 and Sega Genesis launchs in japan. They did horrible in japan but good everywhere else in the world.
How are they going to make money? They have put a PC in a box and are selling it at a loss, whereas Sony and Nintendo either make money or at least break even on their console sales. Microsoft took a shortcut and simply put a PC in a box, because their expertise is not in making hardware, that's simply not going to work from a business standpoint.
Its not just a PC in a box. They have many console developers on board and they produce mostly console games. Yes the hardware does resemble a pc but that just enhances the console. For example you never need to buy a memory card because of the built in hard-drive. YOu have a dvd drive that comes in handy. You have ethernet support out of the box. Defenitely nice not having to buy an add-on. You have arguably one of the fastest video cards ever put on a console system. Atleast faster then its competition. Also when did you become a marketing director? How do you know whats a good business standpoint for Microsoft.
This Salon article is spreading more FUD. Xbox is getting a lot of bad press lately however its only been out 6 months. Wait until after E3 and see whats revealed there. Also wait for next Christmas. Sales during this time of the year is normally slow. Wait until Christmas and see how the sales are then. Christmas will be a much stronger indicator of how the xbox is doing.
Supporting Microsoft on Slashdot is likely walking threw Afganistan while waving an American flag. Just not a good thing to do.
But seriosly the Mario series was revolutionary when it first came out. However I think its more evolutionary now. Its the same game that comes out over and over and over again. As for another series that "spearheaded as a siginificant technological leap" what about FF? I think everyone was blown out of the way when FF7 came out for the PSX. It was amazing. What about HALO? It redefined the FPS genere on consoles and won numerous awards.
You can spin it all you want. Im going to say it again. Price cuts are good. Its not a last ditch effort for MS. Remember PSX price cuts and N64 pricecuts? It didnt spell doom for either company. N64 pricecut was in the first two months. The European xbox was over-priced. NOw its stealing the thunder of the Cubes launch on May 17th. I bet you a lot of those cube pre-orders will think twice now since the xbox price cut. Once again price goes down sales go up. Simple economics.
Xbox will succeed and dont be suprised that xbox sales in Europe will rise significantly.
I dont want to waste my time telling you how stupid that comment is however I will point you to this link.
Xbox has plenty of good games and many good games to come. Including THPS3,NFL2k2,Max Payne,Rallisport challenge, Wrecless and the list goes on. Just wait for E3 and we'll see even more games coming out for the xbox.
Even in North America it is being outsold by the GameCube
Can you back that up with some sales figures somewhere? As far as I can tell NPD and other sites I've seen put the xbox and GC pretty much dead on. Even though the GC is priced a 100 dollars cheaper in the US.
Well, I'm glad you enjoy those games. Good for you. I happen to enjoy Mario and Zelda, and I'm a married adult -- I don't think that makes me "kiddie". For the record, I'm also getting Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness, both of which are very bloody and horrific.
Im glad you like your old Mario and Zelda franchises. Every year they have to make another sequel and every year its the same old Mario and the same old Zelda. Why not go with something new and exciting. And another thing who wants a 3 year old remake of RE? Hasnt this series been pushed to its limits? Dont tell me Mario and Zelda are not kiddy. I respect Shigeru Miyamoto a lot. However he is developing the games for a certain demographic. Same think with all the pokemon games and Smash brothers melee. There for kids and some for the whole family. Also I would bet you either Cellda (cell shaded zelda) Or Mario sunshine wont be out this year. Knowing Nintendo it will be pushed back into 2003.
We'll see in a little over a month, though -- feel free to scream "I TOLD YOU SO!" if a significant number of journalists (as supposedly objective parties) think MS trounced the competition at E3. I'm not going to hold my breath, though
I never said MS was going to trounce the competition. I was just remarking that the E3 lineup will be great. Pushing a lot of people that are on the fence to buy the box.
And I don't think you were listening to me. I didn't say the XBox has lousy third-party support now -- I was referring to a hypothetical situation in which the XBox has failed. Obviously, at that point, all third parties are out the window, and the XBox 2 would have to start rebuilding support.
And thats a huge hypothetical situation. Suggesting an xbox 2 when the Xbox has only been out 5 months is just silly. Plus who determines if MS is a failure? Because they only sold 5 million consoles instead of 6 million consoles there first 6 months?
I was speaking hypothetically. IF the XBox fails, there will be no XBox 2 -- at least not a successful one. Yes, I also predicted that this situation is likely, but the main point of my post was the logical conclusion that an XBox failure all but forces an XBox 2 failure.
And at the same time acting as a jury judge and executioner to the current xbox without backing up any of your hypothetical claims. THat would be called FUD.
Ooookay. I think we have an insecure college kid on our hands, folks.
And I think we have a insecure married Gamecube fanboy here.
Why would the deciding factor in buying a next gen console be if it could play old games?? Ok, its nicing have the ps2 play older ps1 games but if you already have a ps1 who cares?
Xbox is targeting many different demographics. The pricecut will help out a lot of people who werent sure if they should go with the xbox because of its price. These people dont care if its backwards compatible with there older games. They want a good deal. Xbox is also releasing tons of games threw out this year. Remember its only been out 5 -6 months. Also the statement that people wont buy it because its manufactured by Microsoft is pretty weak. Do gamers care that there PS2's is made by Sony. Who in which is pushing laws like the DMCA and joining lawsuits against DeCSS? Or that there in bed with the RIAA? Remember Sony has much more revenues then MS. Slashdot crowd should be just as worried about buying a console by Sony.
Wait until E3. That will really define the rest of this years lineup. I think it will be good.
YOu have to buy a memory card for the GC or Ps2 to save games. The xbox hard drive has it built in. Not to mention to get 4 ports on the PS2 you have to buy a multi-tap. Xbox already has 4 ports. Plus no hard-drive or ethernet support on the ps2. Those are all expensive add-ons later on. Xbox is a better deal.
I think your absolutely wrong. The xbox has only been out for 5 months and your already declaring it dead? Remember Xbox has sold a good 1.7 - 2.0 million consoles in the US. Not to mention every week I see them selling a bit more then the cube. The European release was less then stellar but with the new price cut were sure to see much strong sales. Also why buy a gamecube if you can buy a Xbox for 50 euros more? And dont say you have to buy the dvd remote because on the gamecube your going to have to buy a memory card which is the same price as a dvd remote. Due to the xbox hard drive you dont have to there.
I'm glad if you think the cube's games are going to boost the sales of the GC. If you like playing little kiddie games thats great. I'll stick with my Halo, Wreckless, Max payne for now. Also sorry to burst your bubble. Xbox E3 lineup will be awesome. Im sure they'll be some suprises and by this Christmas were sure to see some awesome Games. BC, Project EGO, PSO just to name a few. Not to mention all the online games that will come out with the XBOX online launch. Hmm.. What online plans do GC have?? Oh yeah none. ALso Morrowind will be out in May. BUffy will be out in june so we'll have quite a few games to keep us going during this slow release time of the year.
As for your argument that the first party games cant support the whole cosole I agree with you there. However I dont think you understand that XBOX does have very good 3rd party support. Konami is going to release MGSX, SOE, GTA3 all for the xbox. Not to mention Capcom/EA/SEGA/NAMCO/TECMO and many more have all released games for the xbox. Sorry the tired old argument that the xbox is only a pc computer in a black box is wrong. ITs a game console with very good 3rd party support.
The xbox price cut is a good thing. You can spin it all you want saying that it spells MS doom but you would be wrong. Its simple economics. By decreasing the price demand goes up. Yes MS is losing money on it however they can make up the price on it with future sales of games and accessories. I dont see anything wrong with that model. I believe PS2 did the same thing.
Before you make you doom and gloom predictions and start talking about xbox 2 please do a little research. Just pulling out of your ass all these prediction about the xbox 2 is pretty weak. Go back to your GC fanboy message boards. I think thats where you belong.
Its a review of Tony 3 for the box. Its not some kind of hybrid between 2 and 1. Check your sources before you starting pulling stuff like this out of your ass.

I dont think you know what your talking about? Do you even have an xbox? Or are you just a Ps2 fanboy troll that wants to feel better? Ok. First go to www.gamespot.com or www.ign.com and look at the top 10 xbox games. Here I'll give you a breakdown.
Halo (awesome game fastest selling launch title ever released, already sold a million copys)
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 (Ok it was released on all 3 platforms now but according to the reviews the xbox Tony was the best looking. Plus link play and some extra's for the xbox made it well worth it)
NFL 2k2
Max Payne (Pc Port. But a dam good one at that)
Rallisport Challenge (exclusive xbox. Great racing game)
Nba2k2
SSX Tricky (Came out on all 3 platforms. very fun)
JSRF (Fun game made by sega)
Gemna Onimusha
NHL 2002
DOA 3 (great fighting game)
Project Gotham racing (fun racing game)
These are just a few of the great games for the box. And since E3 is coming up microsoft is sure to announce some more great titles. I know GTA3 is coming to the box also perhaps MGSX. Project EGO will be huge Xbox exclusive and so will enclave. Morrowind will be out at the end of the month and that should be another winner.
So there is many great titles out for the xbox. And if you want to complain about games check out the cube? They have the least amount of all 3 consoles. Plus where is metroid prime, Mario sunshine, cellda (zelda) ? Exactly. Not out and probably will be pushed back even farther from there release dates.
"The PS2 Ethernet Adapter will be $39.99. No more expensive than the DVD remote for XBox which isn't supported out of the box. Same Difference! "
This is a bit of a misnomer. The xbox in actuality is cheaper then then the Ps2. This is because the Xbox has a built in hard drive and 4 ports. So memory card for the ps2 = 39.99. Multi-Tap for ps2 is 40 - 60 dollars. Plus you dont have to buy an ethernet adapter. So having to buy a dvd remote for 30 bucks is much cheaper then buying a 40 dollar memory card a 50 dollar multi-tap and a 40 dollar ethernet adapter.
Also remember Microsoft is bringing out Sega's Flagship Phantasy Star Online 2 for the xbox. SO there will be atleast one MMORPG for the box. I think the box is much more suited for this and I dunno if Sony will get everyone to go out and spend another 40 dollars so they can play a handful of games online.
I understand that the European launch was slow. Thats why they had the price cut. Since then the Xbox has been doing really well with almost 50% of the market in Europe. Whine and cry all you want but its true. .
