Hey, don't worry I'm sure that in X number of years when the copyright legally expires on that content that the DRM will automatically deactivate and you will be able to play/copy it all you want. Since that would be legal at that time.
there is MilwaukeePC they have several locations around Wisconsin, I think more locations than CompUSA ever had. In the past I was not very impressed by them, but my last few stops have really improved my opinion of them.
see their locations on their site http://milwaukeepc.com/Locations.asp
I'm glad that we (those in the US) have solved all our big problems like murder and other violet crimes, so that now we can focus our time/money/resources on things like people making a copy of music or movies in other countries.
By 'that' I'm referring to a policy that discourages some people from using a road with a bad toll policy. A nearby state charges DOUBLE the toll if you don't have one of their 'toll pass cards' Technically anyone can get one, but the only people that bother to obtain a pass are people that live there, so everyone who doesn't live their pays 100% MORE for to use the roads there.
A bit OT I know, but just wanted everyone to know that this suggested solution is basically already being done, just against non-residents instead of against truckers.
If I remember correctly from Promise Raid card tech support; the info for the RAID is on a section of each disk, so a different card CAN read the data...I assume it has to be one of their cards that supports the RAID level you are using, but it should be possible. In addition to professional data restoration services can get the data off the disks, but that is thousands of $$$
Of course even though it should be possible, I still backup to another storage device, just in case!!!
Everyone is bashing this product, and either I'm confusing my acronyms or people here don't realize this things greatest feature. The PCWorld article says it has EvDO, which I thought was a cellular technology, it lists that as the way to get more content on the thing. AND there is no usage charge for that, the PCWorld article says they take care of that in the background, so the price you see listed for the content you can browse is EXACTLY what you pay(OK maybe taxes or something)
So, either I need to cut back on the beers and pay attention to which letters mean what, or this thing is actually kinda cool, not that I'm buying one this year. If I'm way wrong, mod me to nothing, but otherwise, man do people complain about anything here!
Um....to parent...someone who gets DSL from a telco, but uses vonage over that line should NOT be hurting the telco bottom line. they should be making a profit off the DSL service. if the telco is not doing that they should go under. The other option is that customer could get a cable modem instead, and use vonage, an then the telco would not be getting any money, they should be HAPPY to have a DSL only customer. I know my local telco is happy to have DSL only customers, since they charge TWICE the price for DSL only, compaired to adding DSL to other services, of course when I say happy i mean how much they get each month $$$$ for that service.
I think you are actually confusing the issue with the issue of DSL ISP's being allowed to use the local telco wires to the home to offer DSL in direct competition to the telco DSL service. In which case you are just off topic.
...we craft our laws carefully... Your new here aren't you??? Just look for any discussion about DMCA and see if we do or do not craft our laws carefully.
This is exactly the 1/2 way that I personally think is reasonable. A major cost of "supporting" a client OS is the phone support. If they would release info on building support, or better yet, the program as 'unsupported' that would be perfectly acceptable to me. Even if it was binary only, a nice way around that is hosting the forums, so they can have a general feel for how well the binary works. That would even allow them to 'monitor' the forum and keep it on topic. All of which I could live with if it gets the device to Just Work!!!
...Iron Mountain. They have repeatedly lost backup tapes as well as left them in a maintenance closet that ANYONE that decides to walk into the building could access. So if by 'like' you mean someone that has the same buisness but DOESN'T lose your tapes, yes I agree then.
Also if you have any amount of data you want to backup you also need HARDWARE encryption, software encryption like you mention will take too long. And that is hard to setup and costs$$$, unless you have very little important data, in which case you are lucky!!
Um....If he doesn't trust a "government or quasi-government agencies" to back the money order they give him....why would he trust that same governments cash??? If your theory holds true, he should only deal in materials that are themselves worth the value of the transaction, such as gold/diamonds/silver.
Um, Farus888 must be talking about another application. Citrix will run just fine over anything DIAL-UP speed 56k or better, so unless the DSL there is 28.8, which I can't believe, there must have been some other problem. That or he's thinking of another application, and mis-typed Citrix.
Sigbus has it totally correct. There are two ways to receive HD over cable. One is an HD cable box, which most likely will be bundled with something other than basic service. OR have a TV with a HD tuner built in, this will allow you to tune in any unencrypted Digital channels.
Now the biggest question I have is how do you make sure you get a QAM tuner. Most websites only specify NTSC and ATSC tuners. I've yet to see an advertisement for QAM! Which is needed for on Cable for digital/HD channels. I'm looking at sites like tigerdirect.com, maybe they are just not the site to use to shop for these TV's???
A few years ago when you tried the Cable Card was brand new, just released, well force released by the FCC. Guess what, there were firmware updates to the TV's AND the Cards almost WEEKLY!!! Think of Windows or even Linux, do you put the first rev of either of those out in production right away, no you wait a few patch cycles until works right before releasing it for general use.
Now I know you might say this is a TV not a computer, well TV's with all the digital parts really are computers. Maybe not GigaSuperDuperFlop powerful ones, but they are basically computers.
However Evil(tm) people may feel the cable co is about this, perhaps you should place the blame on the two groups that actually released the faulty software, the TV company and the Cable Card Company. OR maybe the FCC who required the release of a product well before it was ready. I wouldn't be supprised if the issue in the article was a simmilar issue, everything is too new and just doesn't work right yet.
Now I agree that maybe if there wasn't so much DRM crap things would be simpler, and maybe, just maybe things could actually JUST WORK!!!
I guess I should have asked why you compared it to a G5, which according to the link I provided was not made at the time you built your system. According to the link they stopped august 2006, and we are talking about something in January 2007.
Specifically when the current model out would have had an Intel CPU, not PPC. It would have been easier to compare.
In the past when I have built systems from newegg comparing to the closest apple model, the apple was actually lower in price! If I had extra time I would do that again today and find out, But I really don't care that much!!!
You bring up a good point. Should Email be considered different than say files on a hard drive? Considering that Email could easily and commonly contain personal information, medical or other stuff not work related but private. Or Email could even contain sensitive communications with HR, which would be work related but could easily be personal/sensitive stuff.
parent is just flame bait.......actually....wait a second, it is cyber terrorism, think of all the wasted CPU cycles as well as how many of his bots were on government PCs. I guess parent is right. It should be labeled terrorism.
OK, so I don't really think this is terrorism, but if a kid in school making a video game can be called one, this guy sure can!
How exactly did it replace your DVD recorder? Since in this very forum the fact that the USB 1.1 ports are not capable of inputing live video, via a A/V to USB adapter. I guess it could replace both PLAYERS, but you still would need to be using another device for recording stuff.
This trick doesn't work. 9 out of 10 websites that I feel NEED to use something like this will NOT accept the + character in an email address. Now my opinion is that if it works at all it must be a valid email address character, can any email junkies comment? Presuming that it is part of the email spec it really should work in any form requiring the entry of an email address. Yes, I have tried to contact some of those sites and get them to fix it. NONE of them have bothered to reply. My solution is a different email address that is a spam collector, which I don't get on my mobile nor do I constantly monitor like my primary account.
Yes, but will USB 2.0 devices be allowed to labeled USB 3.0 Full speed? While actual faster(better?) devices are to be called USB 3.0 Hi-Speed?
Hey, don't worry I'm sure that in X number of years when the copyright legally expires on that content that the DRM will automatically deactivate and you will be able to play/copy it all you want. Since that would be legal at that time.

citrix will work over dial up, it was designed to. Any windows app will run on it. it is just as valid a solution as any other one here.
So since I won't fall under any of those items do they subtract ~$50 total from each paycheck since I am less likely to need health care?

I'm interested in the claim you made about profit per gallon sold. Can you please provide some reference material, preferably online???

I'd say mod parent up but it is already. I find this very suspicious, not just a little. TFA states that TW has announced, if they have announced it there would be something more, like a posting of the info on their press page. http://www.timewarnercable.com/InvestorRelations/P ressReleases/TWCPressReleaseList.ashx
I really don't think they would announce it in one email to one person, not something like this.
Just my $0.02

Parent must be a troll, since the last Mac g5 was the tower mac last produced mid 2006, per wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Apple_Mac intosh_models.
So if they didn't produce a G5 this year, he could not have built and compared a PC desktop this year.
Second, comparing the price of a home built PC to a purchased PC(or Mac) means nothing.
You bring up a good point. Should Email be considered different than say files on a hard drive?
