Care to give your current payout on your PV system? I understand you don't want to take guesses on future payout, but even if you've had the system for only one year, knowing system costs and what you would have paid the electric company for power you generated over those 12 months at least lets me get a feel for how well the system works. Also what part of the world do you live in(to get a feel for your climate or sun exposure)
I do agree with not being able to calculate the break even date, due to price fluctuations and other factors, as well as resale value.
I know this is a joke but for some products that use Power lines for signal transmission they produce products that they claim bridge the signal over the phases. type of thing you can plug into a 240 outlet. I've not actually used one nor do i know exactly how they work, but i suspect it's a bit more than a resistor.
My point is such products do exist. And yes i'm feeling to lazy to look up a link at the moment.
I'm guessing your not trolling and really do wonder why non-user pays taxes should be used for roads, that or I bit the troll bait.
Unless you are living totally off the grid outside of civilization, which would make it tough to post to slashdot, you benefit from public roads. The store you might walk to has goods delivered by truck. And yes one could argue that the store should pay the truck enough to pay for the road. But sometimes it is actually better for the gov to just do stuff like roads.
Yes we can debate the pros/cons of the situation, but my point is there is justification for using those $$$ for roads.
Agreed Qos. This is the only solution outside of the ISP increasing their upstream bandwidth, that is not automatically wrong. Of course as others have said there is a fine line between OK and NOT OK depending on HOW and WHAT you do with the QoS settings of different services.
I think you might be splitting hairs, but there is one thing I disagree with Gallomimia on. The is a reduction in power strips. The confusion is it that the grandparent is meant to say watts not amps.
A common justification for 208 volt instead of 120 volt is that for the same amps you get more watts out of a power strip. When you look at the specs at power strips for a new rack the number you look at is total watts. therefore more volts can mean less power strips, because you get more watts.
At least i'm guessing that the grandparent meant watts, not amps.
Sorry to say but it's really easy to bounce a connection through another IP, so that it appears to be the source. Of course that does give them the relay location. My point is that can be significantly further than +- WiFi.
OK so TheRaven is right by the letter of many Free Software licenses. However Bickerdk is right in the spirit of most of this software. It's like saying a person can do lots of things that are not illegal, but are not something a nice person would do.
Think of it this way. Parents tell their children they MUST excuse themselves for certain bodily noises. Now they won't get arrested for that so it's not illegal, but they still should.
Parent should NOT be modded "informative" I thought it to be true until a month ago when I looked up the spec myself and found that auto-cross over is not mandatory in GB NIC's.
On the other hand, it is VERY common in GB NIC's to support auto crossover. And to support the grand parent, all Mac NIC's may support auto cross over, but I haven't confirmed that.
...and then complains because it was read and responded to? I would be bothered if it was a private intended email sent through their email relays, but not to comcast, and they responded to that. But he put it on a public, blog, WOW maybe they are using something like google searching for these negative remarks and OH MY GOSH trying to make the customer happy by suggesting things!!! WOW...OK sarcasm off. Come on, if you don't want anyone to be able to read it, don't post it on the web. Sorry to say but the title should read "dumb blogger shocked when public blog read by someone" OK I admit I'm assuming it's a public blog, but a quick scan of the article didn't indicate it was private/secured in anyway. So unless I missed something, this is a non-issue.
I'm not talking about normal sales tax, I mean ask about one of those other "fees" Their response, "the FCC allows us to charge you that" me:"OK, what FCC rule/regulation states that you can charge me that?" ATT:"i don't know" Me:"ok then don't charge me that until you can tell me what allows you to." ATT:"no"
Cingular was OK, until ATT took them over, at least in my experince. A few more months and I'm canceling at the end of my contract. I've always played the game of just switching carriers just to get a slightly lower rate. This is the first time I'm switching because the service is just BAD. If the quality was the same/better as it was before ATT got involved I wouldn't even switch, I'm to busy.
OK, I'm done ranting. But really try asking the question about what a tax is for and why they are allowed to charge that as a seperate line item not include it in their main charge for the service.
Have you ever used an IP KVM? My experince has been that the mouse sync is annoying to use for long periods, it gets the job done until you can connect with RDP/VNC/X11.
I'm not sure if a mouse is needed, Keyboard access is basically find via IP KVM. Also I'm not sure how long this access is needed on a number cruncher. For short periods they do work fine.
Thinking of that has anyone found an IP KVM that works really well for the mouse sync? To the point of being able to use it all the time?
Mod Parent up....I've had people indicate that they think my bike is too loud. I usually respond with, "sure I'll make my bike quieter, as soon as you make everyone drive correctly on the road" so far my bike is just as loud, and it is a standing offer. I think a more realistic(but not realistic enough to happen) solution is require all drivers to drive a motorcycle for a year BEFORE being allowed to drive a car, it defiantly increases awareness.
If your thinking off-topic, think how light motorcycles are.
Better than the Dell software with finger print reader. They let you log into the PC with finger print. The SAME software can be used to remember website passwords but requires a password. Even though you don't get the software without the built in finger print reader, application password management requires a password, can you say duh?
At one point I agreed with you, charge people for what they actually use. Makes sense right?
Unfortuanatly you have advertising supported sites, you have windows updates that SP5 comes out and it's 300 meg(that's somewhere close to the last SQL service pack i downloaded)
So really you come down to the issue of speed, maximum speed really is the best way to limit and sell usage.
Now what to do about people that use 100% of the bandwidth they have 100% of the time. This is a more difficult issue to find a fair resolution to.
BUT I've come to the conclusion that charges based upon total data downloaded does not work with our current internet.
correct there are USB HD receivers in the states. perhaps not this model number but there are. Article is lame. most of the items are cell phones but at least they have 1 or 2 features which make them neat.
My city as well as many others in this country already have photos and MORE info about the property on their websites. So the fact that google also has them doesn't mean anything at all.
I'll even ignore the comments about how this makes it easier to find the pictures, if your looking to purchase a house in a city I'd be surprised if you didn't go to the cities website.(that is assuming your also computer literate enough to check google street view) I mention purchasing a house since that is sort of what the article is about.
He hits the nail on the head with; to have Lots of 9's in your up time you really must have redundant systems. And even then it's not guaranteed, but at least it is possible. Without redundant systems, its not realistically possible.
How do you KNOW to complain if you are unable to view the site to confirm that it does not contain objectionable material? I know if I'm blocked by work/library/etc that I can go home, check, and complain if they block something OK. But here they are talking about the whole country.(ignoring workarounds)
I might be wrong, but I thought that TPB and other torrent sites also had Linux/BSD sections(what would be the right word, tracker?) that are perfectly legal in all (or almost all) countries? So in my eyes that makes them more of a normal map maker to follow your analogy.
Just call it, something like 'close to unlimited' and print very clearly the maximum transfer, should be a couple hundred gig per month. And setup a good policy for going over or close to over. The price for the 95% should STAY THE SAME or GO DOWN. Those 5% heavy users should pay MORE, but they should be clearly aware of the policy, and the service can NOT be called 'unlimited'
I think what you meant to say was "...we disable sprinklers to prevent false alarms, because too many people MIGHT have false alarms." It's a small but important difference.
I actually thought of this situation, since I have several data connections that have the same problem. I suggest here that business grade connections be exempt from this tax. My service provider has a distinct line in the sand to classify those connections, and the people that are they type to order them are usually smart enough to understand the policies of what is and what is not allowed. It really wouldn't be fair to my employer to pay this tax for the dozen sites with high speed that don't even have PEOPLE!
when you create your account isn't there some words displayed on screen that COULD be interpreted as written permission? It's been a while since i signed up so i don't remember.
Agreed, think of it this way.
"they" could look up the address in a phone book, we better make publishing the address of the schools (or other buildings) illegal.
Of course nobody will go to school since it's illegal to give out the address.
Somehow I'm thinking "they" were able to find targets before google maps existed.

Or is Linux a HaXoR tool?
She paid Best Buy $300 dollars to "maintain" the system. And was in their possession to be 'maintained'
