Hobby or not, it succedes in other areas. Like many small OS's it has built a strong community, a group of people sharing a common interest. During my time looking after Menuet ( www.menuetos.org ) at times the 'family' aspects were almost as much fun as the technology. It's probably true here too.
I've just finished a project ( see sig, plug plug ) that gives an acoustic alert if your speed exceeds a preset limit. It may sound daft given that we all have speedos but the results were rather surprising - I found it very difficult, *especially* after coming off a motorway into an urban area, to keep below the speed limit. Whats more, drivers behind you get *very* annoyed if you stick to the limit. But maybe thats just drivers in the south-east of the uk.
It's worked out well though; I can now concentrate on looking at the road rather than constantly checking that I'm not exceeding the speed limit.
The transcript should have been a warning sign; I was hoping that the interview would be interesting to watch. Sadly, Tim appeared rather dull. Radio 4 will present the full 1/2 hour interview later this week; If tonight was the highlights, I think I'll be washing my hair that night.
Thats the 'we' that actually build the infrastructure and design the protocols and applications, as apposed to the 'you', the lazy fucks who just blog all day and think it's relevant, important and meaning full.
It's automobile gas in liquid form, rather than, er, gas.
Joking aside the differences are probably the octane rating and possibly the lack of lead. We had a wonderful game in the uk a few decades ago called 'convert your car to unleaded.' Caused loads of confusion, not too disimilar to 'Mornington Cresent' played on Radio 4.
Fortunately this would never happen in America, since they cannot get hold of Petrol ( which is unique to the UK ). Gasoline would not have the same effect. Thats why Petrol is so expensive in the UK:o)
I'd be interested to know what hardware you are using, and how it's configured. Would you have time to chat about it by email? mikehibbett [@] oceanfree.net

Good old patent lawyers, paid by the word.

Looking at your score will reveil that content is more important than presentation :o)
>Who the hell is this "we" shit?

We spend effort to develop technology allowing us to interact with people similar to ourselves.
Yet we go out of our way to ignore 'strangers' on the train or street; We shun all possible contact with anyone not totally like ourselves.
Which of the above has a greater chance of providing a stimulating, rewarding experience?
Ah well.
Geez,
how the hell is a score of -1 possible? Are we in the imaginary plane now?
get a life will you?
Kind of "Google You"
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Where is the file I'm looking for?

Mike.
It's at the same stage as Linux was in 1994?
Great. I'm 40 next month, so maybe I will still be alive when its ready for the desktop!
ah, how I laughed. A 'System Requirement' section for a mouse.
Next: Toilet paper; System requirements, Microsoft Windows Toilet 2005.
God help us.
Who needs to sabotage code when we have GHS tools to do it for us?
I spend more time re-writing their code than writing my own.
No, but I wouldn't throw my cigarette end in the road in front of one :o)
You've really hit the nail on the head, for me at least. What *is* the difference?
Did I mention terrorist?
I did not.
I'm still interested in an answer though.
p.s Terrorists dont walk round town at night with an illuminated T written on their forehead. This is about street crime.
Could someone explain how this service will be useful?
I gain comfort from the presence of a camera. Not a lot, but a little.
