No, for them, it makes their job easier. The issue, when boiled down, is the old "greater good" argument again.

Suppose they wiretap 1000 phones without a warrant. 999 of them are mistakes and nothing comes from it except the violation of citizen rights. (which is a huge thing, IMO) but that 1000th one yields a goldmine of terrorist activity that they would have missed had they been forced to wait for a warrant. Because of the wiretap being quickly put in place, they're able to stop a legitimate terrorist threat.

That's a good thing, right? But it's also a hugely BAD thing as well.

The US is the 900lb gorilla of the world right now. The US is EXPECTED to "fix" issues in the world simply because we're the US. We're expected to give more aid, give more money, and give more troops/technology/weapons when the UN decides to do something.

It's rather funny that "the world" at large hates the US (apparently) so much. Sometimes I wish the US would go back to Isolationism so the world at large can realize that while the US is not perfect, in most cases we're doing two things: 1) trying to help out and 2) protecting our interests. It's the same things every other country in the world does (minus the 1st point there, which is trying to help out) but since the US is such a global power, we're vilified.

It would be extremely intriguing to watch what would happen if say..the US pulled completely out of South Korea, for example.

If they receive residuals for telling their story in this game, and Konami makes a buck because it's "realistic" then what's the problem here? Konami is doing ok by me, they're giving these Marines the medium in which to tell their story (and they wanted to use a video game as the means) and they're also taking the chance that this game will sell well because it's based on a true event told by people who were actually involved.

At my work, we allow two IM programs, Pidgin and Trillian. Both are wide open, however all conversations are logged via Postini. My company (a financial firm) took the opposite route, rather than block a whole bunch of programs and port #s, we allow just about every form of internet communication and log it all.

So far, it's worked out fairly well. Users respect that the company respects their ability to not be "Big Brothered" to death by allowing everything but making them aware that it's all logged.

As far as IM clients go...what type of phone system do you have? If it's a Cisco system, you can look at Presence Server (CUPS) which has a built-in IM client and various other very nice to have options...just a thought.
