  1. Force Users to submit tickets on Improving Operations in a Small Helpdesk System? · · Score: 1

In my organization, we do not have a telephone number for the help desk. If someone has an emergency, they come running. Otherwise, they go to a web site dedicated to the IT department, where they log in with their domain username and password, then submit a helpdesk ticket. Once they submit the ticket, the system sends an email to all helpdesk responders notifying that a new ticket has been added.

The first person to pickup the ticket assigns it to himself, then must update the ticket to close it, or elevate it, or whatever. I could not get anyone to log anything when someone would call in and whoever answered would simply jump and go fix the problem. But, since now we are notified when new tickets are added, we handle it much easier. There really wasn't any problem setting it up either, and what I've found is the people who just don't get it and can't fill out the helpdesk form, which is as simple as you can get considering all the user info is supplied when they log in, they ask someone else to help them...
It may not be perfect, and it can still slip sometimes, but if you just put a board outside your office door with a web address, include it in your signatures, people will catch on, start informing your users to use this and tell them they will get speadier responses if they use it, also, if they show they have a high call volume and things aren't getting resolved quick enough, it is proof to management you need to hire more help. THe users usually really like this as it makes them feel more involved. Even if we, the BOFH's, really know their requests are simply dumping into the /bit/bucket ...

  2. Self-Control Anyone? on Wiimote Straps Result in Class Action Suit · · Score: 1

I am calling everyone I know to get onboard a class action lawsuit with me. I am attempting to get a national suit against Good Year tires because I put them on my truck and I'm driving just like they tell me to, but the tread is wearing down. Something just isn't right and I feel they should replace the defective units...

Give me a break! Just because a few dozen people cannot control themselves while playing a VIDEO GAME doesn't mean Nintendo should pay for it! What will happen when these same people get older and forget to change their Depends, will they sue for the leakage they caused?

On the other hand, Nintendo shot themselves in the foot for 2 reasons...
    (1) They included the strap. They should have left it off.
    (2) The manual specifically states, wear the strap in the event you let go of the remote to prevent damage or harm to nearby entities... (paraphrasing)

If they had done nothing, nothing would have happened. Good thing they never included a strap on the GameCube remote, or tons of lawsuits would ensue... Everytime someone dies in spliter cell, I bet that controller goes flyin'...

  3. Obvious tactic to save money... on French Parliament To Go Open Source · · Score: 1, Insightful

Isn't it obvious, anytime a large corporation or entity states they are switching to Linux/FOSS and states a main reason of saving money, is merely screaming from the top of their lungs, 'Hey Microsoft, give us some free software or we're gonna switch!'

No one ever really switches. Microsoft gives them tons of free software everytime. French Parliament doesn't want to pay the money to upgrade everyone to Vista, so instead they are playing a tactical rouillette game, in which they will win because regardless of who it is and how weak they are, Microsoft doesn't want a single hi-profile entity to actually switch to Linux and will willingly 'give' them the free software, not that it actually costs Microsoft anything, but they can then write it off as well as a charitable donation... blah blah blah.

I have to ask about your sig. Why do you think Jesus was a liberal?

In todays society where people like to teach that Jesus loved everyone, and it's okay to do what you want because Jesus loves you, I could understand where you are coming from. But have you actually read the Bible?
Jesus walked into the temples where the anti-christian people of the day congregated, namely the Pharisees and Sadducees and proceeded to call them names! He called them Hypocrits, Vipers, whited sepelchres... He wasn't teaching love everyone, he was teaching that He is the only way out of Hell, and the current philosophy of the Jews was wrong because the preists couldn't atone for anyone's sin, only faith and trust in Christ would save them. He was straight, to the point, in your face and told it like it was.
And they crucified him for it.
He certainly didn't believe in socialism or communism or government support. The contrary is true, he taught faith and absolute trust in the God of our fathers, not the government. When I think of liberal I think socialist, so I am curious, why was Jesus a liberal?

So doesn't this mean he doesn't actually support it?
Is he trying to sound strong and tough, is he flip flopping, or does he not really think things through to the end?

The thought of a MS version of wine, or emulation layer isn't so bad. I like wine a lot, but I still can't get it to do what I want. And I don't own a copy of windows, but I do have some games. So a MS emulator might not be too bad, atleast until wine works better.
