Console Brand Loyalty and Lifestyle Choices

RotoGo writes "A new survey done by GamerMetrics shows that 38% of gamers prefer the Playstation 3, making it the most anticipated system. The Wii only got 22% of the audience as their number one choice. Perhaps more interesting are the 'lifestyle' choices reported by the survey. Nirvana was cited as the favorite band for those loyal to the Xbox brand and Eminem was the top pick for the Playstation brand. The Nintendo camp prefers Gorillaz and Smallville for entertainment. The study also discovered that people that like the Xbox brand are the most likely to own an iPod and a TiVo while it is the Playstation gamers who are most likely to go outside to see a movie."

I see something conspicuously missing... ah, thats right, a girlfriend.

Ha, just kidding. With all those consoles, you wouldn't have time for a gf anyway. And, by my experience, you come out ahead on the money.

  51. Am I an enigma, or is the survey flawed? by WindowsTroll · · Score: 1

Based on the questions from the survey, I fit all of the categories.

    Current console? GameCube. (Wii)
    Current handheld? DS (Wii)
    Band? Nirvana (X360)
    Favorite TV show? Lost (X360)
    Tivo? Yes (X360)
Movies in past 30? Yes (PS3)
    iPod? Yes (X360)

So, will I buy a Wii, X360 or PS3? Per the survey, they believe that I will buy the X360, but I am going to buy the Wii. Why? Because I am buying it for my kids.

The survey is geared to those who play the games, not necessarily the people buying the consoles. Since the people who read IGN are older and more likely have the cash to buy the consoles, the X360 and PS3 are over weighted. For people like me who will buy a console for their kids, our input is not considered on the survey so the Wii is underrepresented for what will be the likely purchase pattern for the consoles.

Just wait for the PS3. Part of the delay is the Blu-ray LED not lasting any longer than 6 months. Rumor has it that they will release it as soon as enough of the failure bell curve is past the guarantee period so they don't get too shafted by returns.
