A man recently died after drinking 15 gallons of beer.
Too much of anything is never good... don't people ever learn? First we had that guy who committed suicide after he played way too much EverQuest and spiraled into depression, and now this.
Leverage on the movie industry DOES help the consumer. RIAA/MPAA and pals deserve all the blackmailing they can get. I won't be happy till they're out of business. At least if MS takes over the media industry, it's only one big evil corporation to deal with - right now we've got dozens, if not hundreds.
Planet-Source-Code? Rent-a-Coder? Hah, I see through your lies and deception! Give it up you VB script kiddie, we all know you were looking for 'l33t b0x r3wt1ng skr1ptzz'. Your pathetic attemtpts at blending into the slashdot linux community is a failure! Everyone knows that there are actually more coders in america, however they are too intelligent to post code on planet-source-code for people like you to find!
Geekonomical writes "Economic Times has an article that says Indian Government's Department of IT is going to encourage Linux and OSS on all fronts including college education! The article has more details (eventhough it has a misleading title!) The reasoning being more of plain economics than security or other reasons."
They aren't losing any money from these switches. They simply get less money in the future. They still have lots and lots and lots and lots... of money, and people all over North America using their OS and products.
That's why they invented tinfoil! It's not just for making hats - wrap some around your USB cables and you're secure. As a bonus, it's nice and shiny - be the envy of your neighbors and of the CIA!
Windows GDI has been hardware accelerated since like '95. Try booting Windows in VGA safe mode and see how much slower it is than 1024x768 32-bit color. The GDI architecture has a lot of features that take advantage of hardware acceleration, including stuff like bitmap scaling and alpha blending, transparent compositing, and raster shapes. Some apps can tell you exactly what 2D features your card accelerates.
The idea of one of these with a broken reset button, adds a whole new meaning to the word 'crash'. In fact, it's more like 'crash and explode, charring everything within a 1000 foot radius'. Yay.
"iChat is the first client compatible with AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), allowing instant messaging between.Mac members, AOL members and AIM users. With its engaging use of the Mac OS X Aqua interface, iChat provides a great new user experience, with dialog bubbles and buddy photos that present instant messages in a graphically conversational manner -- and no annoying ads."
First client? Uh, what about Trillian? Or do they mean first for the mac.
I have to agree, the page is quite informative and doesn't seem as biased as I would expect from MS. Of course, I'm a diehard windows fan, so I'm probably a little too forgiving of MS, but at least they seem to be cleaning up, on the outside, for now.
Bzzt, sorry, try again later. This chipset uses a GF4MX, which is LESS powerful than the GPU used in the current XBox. Perhaps you should read the article instead of just the title.
While there aren't any Music Construction Sets around, and I personally wish there were, there is a definite abundance of Game construction sets and there have been for years. A large community of homebrew game developers has sprung up around various programs from companies like ASCII and Clickteam, and there are dozens if not hundreds of freeware game construction sets that people use to make their own arcade games and RPG's. Programs like Acid from Sonic Foundry also fill a niche in the music industry by allowing people to start creating music without formal music instruction or lots of resources.
After reading that article, I must say there's some pretty strange possibilities. It seems silly to think of Bill Gates owning the entire telecom industry, but with the way things are now, the author's little prediction of the future may very well come true. And we'd all be in deep shit then.
I wonder how a major screwup in the HTML like that got through. Maybe it's because the EDITORS DON'T READ THE STORIES BEFORE PUTTING THEM ON THE FRONT PAGE? Nah, couldn't be. Probably just a supernatural screw up - act of God/CmdrTaco sort of thing.:)
Imagine what happens when someone loses a match of Super Smash Brothers Melee, and pulls on the controller cord in anger. Whee, there goes a gamecube & LCD screen, not to mention cuts and bruises;)
There's always a chunk of sodium and a beaker full of water.
They exist, but they don't work too well. They either have too many false positives or miss too many real porn images.
Except he's shouting it in korean and 3 script kiddies are up there giving him funny looks and asking 'wtf d00d speek english'?

Just in case slashdot gets slashdotted...

Is it fast enough to network a beowulf cluster of cowboyneals?

Oh good, a 4.7GHZ P4 should really help with my dirty bomb detonation studies, they'll run way faste... Terrorist? What!? Where!?
Just imagine a Beowul... *CPU overheats and explodes* damn 4.7GHZ processors!

If I remember right, last time /. talked about flash there were 500 posts to the effect of 'Flash sucks donkey balls'.
If you're the only person who is secure, then you're the only one who's safe.
:)
If everyone is secure, then nobody is safe, because someone will figure out a way around everyone's security.
'distributed security'... what an oxymoron.

If they demo DOA3 they can also market it as the 'world's largest pr0n show'.

Sounds like a whole lotta effort just to win at Half-Life.
