  1. Try Farpoint with a Aim controller then.

  2. I haven't yet bought a VR game which even approaches good story telling in that way. The most imagination they seem to have is jump-scares in dark places. Tho Farpoint was close to a great game, it had the movements and play immersion just right, but was fairly basic in story, very short, and no real interaction with the world or objects. The depth of some of the mountain-side scenery did make you want to stop shooting and look about too.

  3. I'm gonna enjoy the hell outta Borderlands 2 in VR, no matter how much they had to reduce the resolution to make it work.
It looks like I won't be using the Aim gun with it, just the Move controllers, but that will work fine for me.

The list of good PSVR games is growing at a steady rate, with a sprinkling of really great games mixed in there.

  4. The problem with VR the first time around wasn't the frame rate and what not, it's that the goggle cut you off from the real world.

From the real world? It cut me off from drinking beer while I play games. Thats far more serious. I'm not drinking beer thru a straw.

  5. I don't know about the porn but the 360 degree vids on YT that I have tried out in VR have been a mixture of good, ok and truly awful.

There are a series of these VR vids produced by a brand-name wearable camera company which chop around between different views and scenes every 5 to 10 seconds, which totally breaks any sense of immersion and makes the whole experience terrible. They may be great at manufacturing 360 degree cameras but show no understanding at all about editing and presenting what was captured. It certainly was not the correct way to market the experience.

There are a few games on PSVR which let multiple people connect via mobile phone to participate in some way. I haven't seen reviews on them so I don't know if they got popular at all. Also I don't have any gaming friends in the same city so no reason to try them out myself.

The motion sickness thing is still real, I don't have a problem with racing cars, space ships or running about in Skyrim, for a good long gaming session, but after a few hours it starts to kick in and I need to stop. Some of this could be related to lack of liquid intake, as when I am flat-screen gaming there is usually a glass of wine or scotch nearby. I am not going to start drinking scotch thru a straw under my VR helmet tho.

Valkyrie performed well on PSVR and was the first VR game I got into a lot, but the online-only aspect limited it's uptake I think, and a single-player mode with extensive campaigns could have made it sell better.

Games I enjoy with PSVR have Move and Aim controllers fully visible in game.

You are right about the poor resolution in VR, Skyrim graphics is primitive and low res. You get used to it tho. The Move controllers work well with Skyrim, you see what you are holding and where your hands are at, the sense of immersion is great.

With the Aim controller, in games which match up the visual weapon you are holding, immersion is also good, it matches your posture and movements very well.

Personally I really enjoy the limited VR experience available in Gran Turismo Sport, as I use a steering wheel and get a good feeling of being in the cockpit of the car. Lack of g-force is something you have to get used to, it can also be the cause of discomfort for some people.

Having stated all that tho, the VR experience is not fantastic enough to take over my flat-screen gaming time, it sits unused a lot of the time. As we are a working couple who never spawned, the cost of PSVR gear was probably more acceptable for me than it may be for many people trying to fit toys and games into their budget. I wouldn't call it a must-have or 'the future of gaming' at this stage tho.

I read someplace that Sony plan much lower prices for the next edition of VR, maybe that will encourage greater uptake.

PSVR gives a fresh new excitement to some types of game, but it really needs to be way smaller, weigh 10% of the current hardware, allow you to easily drink a beer (or anything) while playing, and allow you to see whats going on around you.... so lightweight AR is probably what will really take off in the near future.

I still go back to the PC for most of my gaming, the PSVR has not become a regular habit and certainly is not indispensable.

I feel well connected with the VR environment when racing, seated and using my steering wheel, even with the lack of sideways force when cornering etc. Seeing the hands on the wheel matching my movement ties the experience in. Same in Eve Valkyrie, where you are also seated in a cockpit and can see your hands on the controls.

The upright walking games feel a lot less immersive, Skyrim is good to play while standing, mainly because a chair can get in the way when the axes and swords are flying about. Doom VR was sadly even less immersive because for some reason they decided the players point of view should be from a floating robot with weapons attached just below it's 'head'. It didn't matter what your feet were doing with that mess of a VR port. Possibly being suspended on a cable would suit Doom 'VFR', you could always try to get the cable around your neck to end that experience.

In New Zealand we get even less content of value on Netflix. On top of that the Android app I use on my media player has no decent filtering ability and the Netflix listing seems to be at least 50% non-English language, with no indications of this until you have loaded and started playing a video.
When you just want to sit down and get some quick entertainment this is a real downer. Some times I'm just not in the mood to read subtitles while trying to watch the action.

On top of that I have the nasty feeling that there is a decline in quality control with all these "made by Netflix" shows that are slowly filling their catalog. Stuff is getting a but dubious and there is a worrying lean towards reality shows, as if there weren't enough of them already.

If we don't start getting improvements in content in NZ soon I will be looking seriously at dropping Netflix. Not sure if I will have any good alternatives, the Amazon service wouldn't play more than a couple of vids on my Android media player, not sure if it didn't like the lack of DRM control or if there was something else wrong.
