Nokia has been kicking developers around for the past couple years.
and then developers were promised that Qt would allow great portability. Qt showed great potential. Now, when developers started to invest considerable time with Qt, Nokia sends mixed signals or releases statements that are plausibly deniable about their commitment to Qt and Symbian's future. Elop issued the burning platform memo to condemn Symbian, instead of allowing staff to work through the Symbian UX issues. Recent releases and updates have shown considerable improvement with Symbian UX issues, just when the CEO gives a strategy to turn the big Nokia ship into the Microsoft vortex or whirlpool.
Developers need Qt as the life raft or life jacket to help them stay afloat in these turbulent waters. Nokia should get Qt to be supported on WP and S40 phones.
Without any such concrete action from Nokia, most developers will move to Android or another platform.
With quite a few best practices, familiar GUI, standard crypto algorithms and proximity aware key exchange.
Check out http://www.cryptograf.com/ for CryptoGraf Messaging software for N Series and E Series mobile phones. There's even a free download.
I generate a "Crypto Profile", which is essentially an RSA 1024 or 2048 bit key. I exchange "Crypto Contacts", which link x.509 certs with phonebook entries. I send a message, it gets encrypted using the recipient's public key or Crypto Contact. I read a message, it decrypts using my private key and check the sender's digital signature embedded in the message.
Caveat, 1 encrypted SMS gets blown up to 4 or 8 SMS packets. This is due to 1 text sms being limited to just 160 characters, so there's encryption and digital signature overhead I can send text MMS instead, since all the overhead fits into one regular MMS.
The eavesdropping was performed after a court in Germany granted the equivalent of the search warrant. The Bush administration is using the success of eavesdropping to justify their illegal interception...without a court approval.
Your home is your private property. Any police entry into your home requires a search warrant issued by a court.
Your communications is your privacy. Any government intrusions require an eavesdropping warrant issued by a court.
In Germany, the courts will only allow limited eavesdropping...both parties to the conversation must be identified as suspects in documents presented to the court. Also they limit the time period granted for lawful interception.
There's a secure SMS/MMS app which allows the user to select an image for the RNG. CryptoGraf Messaging which supports N95, E65, N70, E61i...and many more phone models with Symbian.
Among the features: - RSA Crypto Key size 1024 or 2048 bits for Encryption - AES Crypto Key size 256 bits for Encryption - SHA256 with RSA Digital Signature - X.509 Standard Secure Public Key Digital Certificate (Crypto Contacts) - P2P Secure Public Key (Crypto Contacts) Exchange - Exchange Crypto Contacts by bluetooth, sms or mms - Forward Crypto Contacts - Backup or Restore Crypto Contact - Export or Import X.509 Digital Certificates
US courts and system of government place a high value on copyright...the right of the publisher to copy an artist's work.
Thai courts and system of government place a high value on respect for the King.
YouTube can quite successfully remove material that might bring loss of revenue...when requested by the copyright holder. YouTube should be able to remove material that might bring loss of respect...when requested by the people who hold the King in high regard.
Thailand has an extradition treaty with the US with regard to criminal offenses...perhaps Google's execs will be extradited for a criminal trial in Thailand

I've been trying to get a decent way to encrypt my Parallels/WinXP drive/folder.
MacOSX home folders using filevault a neat, but I have to keep the Parallels/WinXP folder in/Applications or some such thing...this makes my WinXP accessible by other users (eg. admin) on the same laptop.
The coin operated kiosk can have - bookmarks to local and global sites for dsl access - project gutenberg on hdd - archives of local newspapers on hdd - attached printer/copy machine with per page charge
Charoen Phokphand (CP) is an agricultural conglomerate of Thailand which has many questionable practices. They keep huge poultry farms, also they act as the wholesaler and reseller for small poultry farms.
CP started out in the early 1990s and is now virtually a monopoly for poultry products on the thai market. They expanded into China a few years ago, I'm not sure if they are in Vietnam. The Thai govt, under Thaksin, was a big promoter for CP, they consistently denied the existence or danger of bird flu...when people started questioning their policy, Thaksin had chicken served at his cabinet luncheon, Thaksin even held a big free chicken buffett at a park in Bangkok.
This could change the perception and add a new twist to the RIAA lawsuits against P2P users...simply because P2P would now be given credit for helping all kinds of content providers overcome their bandwidth problems.
Don't tell me that they send a lot of their money home...they take away a lot of the (usually, state sponsored University) degrees and qualification which could be used to develop their country's talent and cultural pool.
Remember the "same" controversy occurred in the early 90s.
USL (Unix Systems Labs), then part of AT/T, sued the BSD Unix distributors/developers.
University of California took on USL and won...the judge handed USL its head on a platter.
But not after significant delays due to the BSD project being put in limbo...even though, at the time they were far ahead of Linux in terms of development/features/distribution.
In fact, this is one of the issues that allowed Linux to move ahead (even though it had a later start with doing an open-source Unix for PCs).
Its sort of ironic (though Linux folks better take note of history), when you realise that USL sold Sys V Unix to Novell, which sold it to SCO. SCO was later bought out by Caldera(formerly part of Novell) but kept the name SCO.

an animated policeman turns up on the screens once in a while to remind people that they are being watched.
