Composits and ceramics are highly viable, but they scare the bejesus out of the BATF.

That's true. The grip of every Glock is made from extremely durable plastic called nylon-6 or something. The inside of the barrel is treated to be almost diamond-hard, to prevent KaBooms. But the really important parts of the handguns (firing pin, safety mechanism, etc) are made from old-fashioned steel. There is no way you can get a Glock past Post 9-11 airport security, but politicians always try to create unnecessary fears of random things to garner more votes. I'm more afraid that someone will go an a sniping spree with a $60 Mosin Nagant they bought from Big 5 than that someone will hijack an airplane with a Glock that magically got through security. Anyways, if you try to hijack a plane now, everyone will do the 50 passenger pileup to stop you. There is no easy way to prevent a sniper from shooting someone.

This is an effective way to save money without sacrificing performance, but getting rid of upgradability. Motherboards with more slots on them are more expensive than an integrated motherboard, because you need to buy all the components. I could buy a silent Via Epia M6000 for $130 or I could get a bigger mobo ($50), a graphics card ($50), NIC ($20), CPU ($40), sound card($20), USB/Firewire card ($10), etc. and it would be much more expensive, louder, hotter, and less efficient than the Epia solution. Attitudes like yours get NOTHING accomplished. If everyone waited for technology to advance, technology would never advance, because no one would be improving anything. Robots can't teach us everything about space. Robots never need lightweight radiation shields, unlike humans. The first step to long term stays in space is making a material as effective at shielding as lead, but much lighter.

Have you seen the videos of people landing on the moon? Doesn't that inspire you? Wouldn't you enjoy being able to stand on the surface of the moon and hold out your thumb at arms length, covering up the earth? I know it sounds naive, and it is, but at least there is a chance if we try now. There is no doubt that our ancestors will travel the galaxy, and I want to take a step in that direction.

I know humans weren't meant for space travel. We weren't meant to fly either. We weren't meant to modify our own genes, but we are. The only way we can travel in space is to hop in a tin can and throw crap out of the rear end. That will never change. Physical laws aren't going to let us survive in a vacuum, exposed to gamma rays. The only way to solve the problems encountered when humans go into space is to go into space. Sending robots won't help us develop radiation sheilding. Looking with our telescopes won't aid in the development of more efficient life support systems.

Since humanity began, we have slowly but surely moved in one direction: up. It took us 66 years to go from the first powered flight to landing on the moon. If we had maintained that progress, we would inhabit the entire solar system.

Stalin wanted to eliminate religion. He covered up as much as he could, but there were still death camps with gas chambers captured by non-soviets. How do you explain that? Did the allies engage in a plot to build gas chambers at concentration camps to make the german leadership look even worse? How do you explain the thousands of witnesses to the Holocaust, the hours of video footage of the aftermath and WRITTEN REPORTS BY GERMAN OFFICIALS about what was going on in the death camps. Was all of this evidence faked or doctored? Was every single witness a lair or someone who was tortured into lying? You are ignoring these incredibly pertinent questions to perpetuate your fantasy.
