Oh come on, the leaked game was stolen only weeks before the excpected 'oktober' release.
From what I saw of the leak, the game was at least months away from completion.
Really stolen or not, this so called hack gave Valve all the time needed to finnish the game whenever they feel like it, no pressure from anyone as long as they can keep saying that they are still busy rewritting code for the sake of security.
If there was a real hack or break-in I bet mr Lombardi silently thanked the guy who did this for keeping all the investors and the entire gaming community of his back.
And if there wasn't a hack/break-in... Well, brilliant move from Valve..
I read the book a year ago, and it was one hell of a read !!!
I started reading and I didnt stop for two or three days until I finnished it..
I can recomend this book for every computer lover out there, the admin ( Cliff Stoll ) is a absolute hero =)
"Instead of trying to create software that works in a minimal sense, we should be creating software that has internal beauty."
Somehow I have a gut-feeling that my boss thinks exactly the other way around, make it fast, make it work, give the customer what he wants !
The customer doesnt care about beauty, he wants to see something work as fast and as cheap as possible !
As a frequently reader of./ I already saw this comming when I read the article, a massive flame against M$.
Sure, they are an evil empire, I will not hesitate to agree on that, but look at the realistic facts here !
Yes, Microsoft owns about 80% of the user market, but isn't that the goal of any company on this planet ?
Every users how idiotic he may be can handle a M$ product within 10 mins, now this is not a bad thing, this means even your grandma can send an e-mail to you when you are on a holiday to some exotic island (maybee the last point IS bad, bad, but you'll get my drift);)
Yes, their products are pretty sometimes sukky and crash more often than they should, but EVERY program or OS crashes once in a while. Only because they aim at the biggest market possible they have to make concesions on a certain things.
And again I cant really blame them for doing that (remember grandma)
And I also do think that Windows has openend up doors to computing for a lot of people, who otherwise would have been in a technological stoneage at this point, again not a bad thing (exeptions for mailing grandma's and lame scriptkiddies)
And for misusing their power, get real, they are the biggest and most influencial company on the face of the earth, again I can't blame em for that to be honest. They just want to keep their market position like any other company. Only they get flamed for every little thing they do. But there are numerous mayor companies out there who do the same thing. Who is complaining when coca-cola buys another soft-drink brand ?? No one, but fact is that almost every thing you drink is owned by coca-cola and produced in country's where 14 year old kids are working in factory's and earn a wage of what you and I couldn't live half a day of. But do I hear complains about that ?? That are things to worried about and should be protested against.!
Same goes for Nike, MacDonalds, etc. etc.
Basicly M$ is just developing software for the masses and looking at that goal, they are doing a good job. And they happen to developed two software products which they blended together (IE & Win) who can really blame em for doing that ??
As a Dutchy myself I regret to inform you that our government anticipated on this "hackers" invasion by closing all the shops where pot is sold and giving all the hookers a free vacation for the duration of the event.
Furtheron all the dutch citizens are being urged to disconnect their putters from the net during the invasion
I havent installed it yet, I will give it a go next saturday.
But there are a million cracks and serials floating on the web.
I have four different cracks for RC1 sittin' on my desktop.
So that should not really be an issue =)
If this is true....
I think that now would be a very good time to sell all your shares/stocks in Microsoft

Tough luck guys
Hmm, what would happen if M$ would treat their licences just as good as their latest software releases.
