There were these things for disabled mac users. They were clear plastic that went over the monitor that you could use to control the cursor. They had standard ADB input, so drivers weren't an issue, you just set the cursor speed to 'tablet' in the mouse contol panel, in other words, a one to one movement ratio. Easy to do in Linux, right?

Now, if you can find one of these, you could concievably get an adapter to hook the ADB to USB and use a G4.

Now you have a touchscreen/pen based Linux/BSD box.

Size of a book? It better be the size of The Art of Computer Programming (Knuth). Most of the material would burn off. You would need to make it out of the silicon-based stuff the shuttle uses, and then reinforce it. In order to build it most efficently, it would need to be shaped like a water droplet (I forget the scientific name) as this is most aero-dynamic.

At any rate, due to material loss by heat, then loss due to impact, why not have it separate from the craft, then transmit the data, then burn up. This would be easy, just set a 24 hiur looped recording on a certain frequency, and leave it on. If it doesn't work, its not like a chunk of charred GPS components and silicon are gonna survive any more then a radio in space would.

You are ignorant. What do graphics cards have to do with weather? Well, weather prediction involves complex 3-Dimensional modeling. Thus requires fast polygon rendering. And perhaps this mean that instead of 2D overheads, we will be able to 'zoom' through a storm. This would benefit pilots, who fly at different altitudes depending on weather.

  21. Re:such a big deal? on Nitroglycerin Mystery Solved · · Score: 4, Informative

Now I must disagree. Nitroglycerine is made by combining Nitric acid with glycerin, very simply put. The second step to the process is filtering all the excess Nitrc acid out of the 'soup' Now why is this important? Because nitric acid makes Nitroglycerine unstable. Now, pure nitroglycerine is MUCH MUCH more stable then it is with impurities. There is actually an equation for the temperature of spontanious combustion based on the amount of Nitric acid left in the mixture.

Now, making a grenade out of nitroglycerin is easy, you just do the same thing you do with TNT and dynamite. You mix the Nitro with fine-powder sawdust, and it holds it in an easly managable paste.
