Well, Mr. AC, perhpas YOU should as well. I will find out who this AC person is if he/she/it keeps insulting me like this! this is getting out of hand. Damn you AC!!!
www.nationalgeographic.com is often out of sync with show times, etc. It happens at my school as well. The website is both ahead of the daily announcements, and just plane WRONG a lot of the time. Perhaps a thread: Anyone know how to prevent these mis-communications, so mtv doesn't screw up again?
Now, that is an amazing piece of technology. If the equipment weren't so sensative and the focal length was in miles instead of parsecs:-) then imagine if you turned it around.......
We could identify shreded Enron documents in landfills.....
But anyways, glad to see its working better now.
Anyone know if they have ever done SETI work with the scope? I would be curious to know if they have. Also, does NASA false-color these images?
At a certain point, the gov't must take cost into consideration. So, I stole 15 blank licenses from the DMV The gov't spent 50 for my court paperwork and an additional 200 in probation costs. hmm.......should they have just fined me instead? or not bothered? they lost money, given that each blank is 89 cents to produce. In Britain, repairing graffeti has got to be cheaper then maintaining 7 camperas on a public bus. You get my point. THe ISPs will eventually rebel due to cost. Either that, or they will try and turn over monitoring and data storage to the government.
Rope is ment to take a certain amount of short stresses, biners can take longer constant stresses. Rope is engineered to take 12 ( I think) falls of 4 meters using a 150 kg? block. something like that, I have my numbers wrong. Carabiners are ment to take absolute loads. The force numbers in KiloNewtons on Rope and Biners are absolutes. there is no saftey margine in the equipment, meaning that my biners will fail at 22KN. Now biners are also made of alloyed aluminum usually. They are much like wood. you can bend wood a fair amount, but apply sudden force and it might break. So, biners are able to hold more weight, as in the situation I described, but less if a sudden force will be applied (like a climber falling)
Used, the stuff is cheap. You can get an analog pic/sound mixboard for a mere 500 that can handle 8/16 feeds. The dishes come pretty cheap these days as well, especially if you can find an independant station that got bought out to buy from, or a major network updating.
Congrats, user 583474, welcome to slashdot. OK first comment. Some friendly advice: Don't troll (make inane or uninformative comments) No flameBait (don't try and start arguments) and no off-topic things, like references to www.goatse.com Advice on Karma: Karma is as Karma does. Don't aim to increase your Karma. Just post intellegently and comment when something is needed, the karma will go up by itself.
That being said: MOD ME DOWN FOR THIS POST ASSHOLES.
As for the classifieds, given that most dishes are leased/rented from DirecTV, etc. the small ones will be hard to find. Trade Journals and Industry magazines are a better place to look.
If you need just a DISH, go to a junk yard. If you need a dish with the boards, etc. You could try a used satelite company. Now, the options there are as follows: A) go retro, get a bigger, cheap dish. B) Find used dishes from companies updating their subscribers and equipment.
Another option, steal..........
And what about the dishes used on news trucks? THe small-form ones are very durable, because a lot of the crews don't know what they are doing. Thise would work, and are probably cheap and easy to obtain.
Hate to break it to you, but each of those companies have Billions, or are worth billions, so they could get in. sad but true. and please, correct me if I am wrong.
Perhaps the congress-people are supposed to represent us?
By Providing OSX support and Linux support, is Nintendo giving the bird to MS? Makes sense to me......make a product that your competitor can't use......
Its open source, but I figger that any one STUPID enought to port it to M$ is gonna get beat like Rodney King if they dare show their face in this here slashdot.
I use several different types. The locking D's just happen to be the most beefy. And I have lots, because I gym climb mainly, and people lighter then me often have to belay me/
Well, most of the mass in a hard drive is the platter stack. those move at a constant speed. The read/write arms move, but those are extremely light. So, given that the drive spins at a constant speed e.g 7200 rpms, there would be no twitching. Perhaps a little rotation when the drive first spun up.
But anyways that is a valid point. We, the GNU, Free software, anti-trademark community are by and large represented by/. Since the 'stealing' of the macslash domain WAS infringment, does this truely mean a reverse in slashdot editorial positions? perhaps a final article by slashdot to resolve this. How bout it Pudge?
I rock climb. I use carabiners, specifically blackdiamond Locking D's with asymetrical gates. These are rated at 22 KiloNewtons. Some quick calculations: A newton =.2248 pounds. So:.2248* 1000(kilo)*22 newtons = 4946 pounds. Which is two tonnes approx. Ergo, 2 of my climbing 'biners can support two tonnes. Each carabiner weighs less than one half of a pound. www.convert-me.com was my resource. Am I not getting something here? It all seems wrong to me.
Banner ads were a quick example of something graphics-oriented that I used to show the limitation of the Terminal-Server system. A more apt example would have been editing marketing videos, as this would have completely required more then the standard 'dumb' terminal
yes

Alas, but in practice, Brenda in Marketing NEEDS the graphics card right in her terminal, or else she needs a Fibre connection to the server.......
