Oh and, you've got that completely backwards. The amount of apps on the App Store outnumbers the amount of ALL PACKAGES (including libs and sources) for Debian/ARM by several orderes of magnitute.
The number of ARM packages in the Debian repo vastly outnumber the "apps" on your iDevice. Also, guess which device is rooted BY DEFAULT.
Seriously, what's your point? Who gives a shit about your ARM Debian packages? Noone sane is going to be using them on a phone. People don't want nor need command-line applications for a phone. People also aren't going to be using Gnome or KDE on a phone. They want a rich selection of applications optimized for their device.
I'm fairly certain if you compared these now-equivalent lists, you would probably find the n900 has MANY more apps, and that most of them are probably MUCH better written to boot.
As soon as Apple releases an iPhone with a slide out QWERTY keyboard, I'm in.
Why would you bother? That's a completely different class of gear.
iPhone is a phone with a bunch of toys, N900 is a full sub-notebook with phone capabilities tacked on. The former can run just a few random "apps", the latter allows you to install a regular OS with all of its functionality.
Are you seriously this delusional?
1) "A few random apps" = over 250,000. How many apps were there in Maemo repos again? 2) Who the fuck is going to bother installing a "regular OS" on an N900? Next thing you will be probably suggesting people "work" in commandline on a phone or try to use Abiword on it.
And this is coming from a person who has owned and used N900 since December.
The iPad got me back into reading books. For the past 15 years, I've been reading perhaps 1 book every 2-3 years. In the past 2 months of owning an iPad, I've already read 7 and my interest is only growing. The convinience is killer. I have no interest whatsoever in traditional print media, be it magazines or books and reading either of them off a laptop or LCD monitor of a desktop is inconvinient and plain retarded. My iPad 3G however, now goes along with me basically anywhere. the only inconvinience being unsuitability for use in direct sunlight.
Really, this is not news. Higher risk means higher expected returns, if there weren't higher expected returns, noone would invest their money into higher risk ventures. Large Cap companies widthstand widespread financial turmoil better, but Small Cap companies tend to climb out of a recession faster and have much higher growth potential. This is simple logic
That the first competing VM to be throttled by the patent holder would be a Java-based one, not a.NET-based one. I bet Steve Ballmer is laughing his ass off right now saying, "even I'm not that stupid."
Did you miss the part where SUN has (succesfully) sued Microsoft for the exact same thing?
It's really sad to see how some manufacturers seem to honestly think that a Windows 7 tablet is going to work well, let alone be an "iPad killer" of any sort. Windows 7 is a great OS, but it's in no way suited for a touch UI and even if you collaborated with Microsoft to make a "for touch UI" Windows version, you would still have the problem of the entire Windows software ecosystem not conforming to the touch UI norms, so that basically won't help you at all. The only 2 potential competitors the iPad might get are Android 3.0 and Meego devices. No, current Android is not good enough.
There are exactly 2 reasons for a company to do an IPO:
One involves injecting a large amount of capital into aggressive growth. Does anyone see any particular way how Skype COULD grow agressively? The second one involves robbing unsuspecting investors of their money.
DRM is a fantasy. Snake oil. It doesn't work. It's been proven time and time again for the last 25 years. EVERY copy protection system ever devised has been defeated quickly.
Tell that to Blizzard. Sure it can be "broken". But what will that give you? Not a fully functional product, that's for sure.
I don't think that's the way it is going to have been set up. Far more likely it's going to be an automatic disclosure of the decryption process from a source independent of Wikileaks should Julian Assange or any other key members fail to check in some how at regular intervals. That way if they should be detained or "meet with an unfortunate accident" the contents of the assurance file go public.
So what happens if Assange & Co all get detained and then get "compelled" to regularly check in?
God forbid developers actually target a platform, whose users are likely not to only actually give a shit about apps, but are actually prepared to pay money for them.
will kill traditional paper books for good and I won't miss them. Over the past 15 years or so, I have been reading very few books (maybe 1 book every 3-4 years). Since I got my iPad recently, I have already read 5. The convinience is simply killer. I am sure I can't be the only one.
No game, or any other software for that matter, should be able to kill a video card, under any circumstances. If that's possible, it's the fault of the hardware manufacturer and/or driver developers.
"One such anonymous programmer points out that he was paid $150,000 per year, whereas the software he wrote was generating $100,000 per day."
And if said software screws up and costs a few hundred million, or otherwise causes other "bad things" to happen, what's the accountability of the programmer or the manager?
Accountability? Of a Wall Street manager? Are you for real?
I live in Phoenix, AZ where speed cameras were recently deactivated after two years of controversy. The same vendor, Redflex, was snapping pictures if you were driving 11+ mph over the limit
I am not sure I understand why this suprises you? Where I live (Finland), cops don't care if you go 5kmh (thats 3,1mph) but if you go 10kmh (6,2mph) over the limit, you will be ticketed, end of story.
Six to seven hours a week? There's a term for someone who plays such an excessive amount of online games. Let me see if I can think what it is... Oh yeah. I remember now.
That term is "NOOB".
WOW, epic double-fail.
1) 6-7 hours a week not considered excessive for an MMO at all 2) The people who DO play excessively have nothing to do with "noobs" (although arguably even excessive players CAN be noobs).
If you posted pictures of Mohammed on a website or forum that falls inside the jurisdiction of a Saudi court, then I see no reason why they should not be able to apply for extradition and prosecute the case. You are conveniently forgetting that a crime occurred within the jurisdiction of the US courts here - the servers in question were on US soil, and thus they have grounds for jurisdiction.
Are you seriously so insane as to suggest I should now start looking up the country of origin of any webhost used by any of the websites I make forum and blog posts to in order to avoid prosecution?
There is no need to deny anything. The whole thing is simply blown out of proportion to the extremeties. Yes, the antenna issue is very much real. What is also real is that it only affects (in a noticable way) those who live in bad coverage areas AND insist on holding the phone in a specific way AND refuse to get a bumper. That's a lot of IFs.
"As you would expect from a company focused on connecting people, we prioritize antenna performance over physical design if they are ever in conflict."
Judging by how Nokia phones look, must be a lot of conflicts.
I don't think it's stupid to spend more than $100 on a video carrd (I definitely have), but it does seem hard to argue that $200 is a bargain priced video card. I would probably call it mid-range?
If 200$ is mid-range, what does that make 300$ and 400$ videocards, assuming we call 500-600$ videocards the high-end?
Oh and, you've got that completely backwards. The amount of apps on the App Store outnumbers the amount of ALL PACKAGES (including libs and sources) for Debian/ARM by several orderes of magnitute.

It will be difficult enough to avoid disaster on planet Earth in the next hundred years, let alone the next thousand, or million.
Right, because space and non-earthlike planets are so much less prone to disaster.
2 or 3 non-earthlike planets are MUCH less likely to get wiped out than 1.

Bad drivers are killing video cards.

If you want to play games, buy a 360...
Do you want to sponsor me a 360 and a HDTV? No?
