  2. ok, let me get this straight... on Concerning The Cancellation of Futurama · · Score: 4, Insightful

    X-Files - last season
    The Tick - Cancelled
    Futurama - Cancelled
The Chamber (which they fought so hard to get it out before the chair) - cancelled (thank God)

just what in the hell are they going to replace these shows with? Its not like a lot of quality material is knocking down the door at FOX

    (that 80's Show?... uggg)

The telecom industry is on life support at the moment. Stocks are about as low as they can go (WCOM hit $6.00 a share sometime last week, from a high of $85.00).

they will lose this case and they will probably go bankrupt soon after. Its just a money grab that is doomed to failure.

people dont have as much disposable income, and tend to purchase entertainment that can be "reused". Books & Boards Games are always big sellers in bad economies, video games just follow the logical progression.

what falters in bad economies are "night on the town" style entertainment like movies and fine dining (with the notable exception of bars)

Just because the language supports *clearly marked* "unsafe" (as in, the programmer is able to shoot-himself-in-foot) coding practices, does not mean that IE will allow controls that require that feature to run.

what will make this unsafe feature any different thatn any other unsafe feature that IE runs?

128k is more than enough for live recordings, considering background noise, proximity of the source of the recording (loud speakers, etc)

anything over 128 is overkill... it just depends on how well it records in the first place.

I chalenge even "golden ears" to tell me the difference in a 256 rate Megadeth concert and a 128 rate one...

We all have to start somewhere.

The primary purpose a game is produced, is to ::gasp:: make money. with < 4% of machines being Macs, a smaller % running OS X and a smaller % yet of those machines being used by gamers, there isnt enough money to let programmers/producers/distributors/resellers put any in their pocket.

Im not going to upgrade my machine for the "latest and greatest" when the original unreal tournament is just fine.

Im quite sure my current machine could "handle it", the other two machines on my network would have to be upgraded considerably in order to play it with other people in my house (upgrade = throw in trash and buy/build a new one)... no game is worth $2000.00 (plus the cost of the game)

  23. Re:Metropolis? on Escaflowne & Metropolis Hit US Big Screens Friday · · Score: 4, Informative

Its based off of the Magna (Comic book) by Osamu Tezuka from 1949...which was (most likly) inspired by Metropolis (1926)

and actually parts of Metropolis (1926) were animated, as well as stop action photography and other nifty effects!

on one page (dont remember where) they were saying that Metropolis was NOT based off of the 1926 Fritz Lang Silent Masterpiece, but off of the Japanese Magna (1949) of the same name... that may be the case, BUT I wonder where Osamu Tezuka got HIS inspiration from...

It probably wont hit any theaters around here, but at least the video will be available in May...

currently I get all my live bootlegs from alt.binaries.sound.mp3.bootlegs, but instead of going out and looking for a particular artist, Im presented with a vast array of stuff that I may or may not want, the only way to tell is to DL a song or two.. I have found many good concerts by people I dont normally like.
