I am a native English speaker living in Hungary and I can say without reservation that Google Translate is really bad at Hungarian. It can handle individual words ok sometimes but anything beyond that and it falls apart quickly. So even without sound issues, it's not really something you can use for any communication beyond the most basic.
They bought the land to develop because a big freeway is supposed to go right through the middle. They'll extort the state for a ton of money, make a huge amount of profit and then exit before the community is fully done. So the long term viability of the site is irrelevant.
Most of the rest of the developed world and a decent chunk of the less developed world have better, cheaper broadband than the US. So actually a lot of people do have great internet. You just happen to live in a country that is unwilling to catch up to the rest of the world in that regard.
Pretty much this. I don't understand why something that is already a cultural phenomenon world wide - watching people compete - is a mystery just because computers are involved.
It doesn't work out like that in practice. I spent a decent chunk of time in the Bering sea on the Carl Vinson during Pacex '89 and the primary constraints for flying were not ice on the deck.
I live in a suburb of Budapest and T-Mobile provides everything I get from them over ip. Television, phone and internet. I wonder if this means I'd pay that tax on all of it - on top of the other taxes already being paid.
Are you aware of how Fidesz came into the position they currently hold.
Hungary ( very much like the US ) has no shortage of politicians across the left to right spectrum who are only out to enrich themselves and their friends rather than leading well to the benefit of everyone. It's sad but I don't think uncommon.
I know there are methods to remove the ads - but I have to say that when they planned this out they did it right. I've never felt a need to remove it from mine. They only show up on the home screen (where they are crazy small) and on my screen saver thing. When I'm reading there is no difference. I really don't spend any significant amount of time not actually "in" books on the thing so I forget about it. Every so often it will remind me to connect to wi-fi if I haven't done so in a long time but if it really helps keep the cost of the readers down I don't mind it at all.
I think that calibre plus the kindle means that I have access to pretty much everything. It's like having the worlds largest library in my home. And since I don't live in a country that has libraries with books in my native language that's a pretty nice thing.
And I have moved enough that I really don't want physical books much any more. There are instances where they are better but for anything I'd read as a paperback I much prefer electronic now.
I am a big Scalzi fan and have loved every bit of his fiction that I have read - except for Redshirts. So I don't get it either, but a lot of people love it. A TV show will come of it and that escapes me as well. Apparently we are just not in touch with something a lot of other people see in it.
I've moved to Mac on the PC side - but I really don't care for iOS so I'm using Android for my mobile devices.
And honestly having a Mac presents its own issues - but you are right, for what I've mentioned they are pretty good. Just wish the quality of their software was higher or open. I put up with Linux warts because it is open. Apple on the other hand, it's just choosing a lesser set of issues.
Nexus and Moto G phones are what I've bought since for my family. I'm still using the S3 running cyanogen but personally I prefer the stock Android experience to cyanogen as well. But that is a good point that there are options still there.
My tablet is an original Nexus 7 and my son has one of the new ones. My experience with those and motorola phones has me thinking that's the direction I'll look first as long as the current situation persists.
I bought a Galaxy S and then the Galaxy S3 - and after seeing how poor the support was on the Samsung side in terms of updating and Android I have decided not to purchase any more of their phones. I had no problems with the hardware. The software decisions that Samsung makes and the fact that they seem no longer interested once the product is out the door was why I left.
In the middle of all that I bought one of their ultrabooks and ran into the same issue.
I don't have any plans to buy anything they've made unless I learn they've somehow turned this behavior around.
I went through that with a rather expensive Samsung. They finally rolled out a bios update that let me apply 8.1 but getting out of that loop was a real pain.
This is my biggest issue with Windows now. Not the OS itself but the lack of decent hardware vendors.

I figured that was a better first post than the norm given the subject matter. Most any tourist gift shop in Budapest will happily sell you an over priced Rubik's Cube.
I got my first ever mac - a macbook pro - a few weeks ago and it's driving me insane. Especially if I'm typing in a form like this one where my hands brushing the track pad surface can move the cursor but more often make the page scroll up and down.
This makes me wonder if anyone who has worked with PhoneGap has also worked just with Cordova and if what PhoneGap brings makes it worth it?
And would this mean that the google toolchain is basically another PhoneGap type tool?
If it's not obvious - I don't know a ton about either but I'm interested as it seems to be one of the few ways to really knock out some simple apps for Android and iOS rather than writing Java and Objective C.

It doesn't matter how poorly it is misspelled. Gulyásleves is nothing like what Americans picture when they say goulash.
Hungary is a great place to live by the way - if you've got the cash to be comfortable.

For $70 you can get a fantastic e-ink reader. The 6 inch kindle with offers is $69.
Team that up with Calibre on a PC and you are all set. That is how I do all my reading now.
